We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is Books I Meant to Read in 2021 But Didn’t Get To. Candyce already did a part 1 to this last week and today is my turn. Since I didn’t read nearly as many books as I would’ve liked you can bet there are a ton of books I meant to read in 2021 but didn’t get to. So let’s see which 10 I picked.
1.Hollowpox – Jessica Townsend
I loved the first two books in the Nevermoor series and I’m pretty sure I actually preordered this one because I really wanted this edition. This came out a while ago and it has been on my shelves ever seen. I hope to read it soon as I really like this world and these characters.
2. House of Earth and Blood – Sarah J. Maas
I was about halfway through with this one already so it’s just ridiculous I haven’t finished it yet. It’s partly because it already shattered my heart in like a 100 pages. But with the sequel coming out really soon I plan on finishing it in the coming months. Candyce is rereading it so that motivates me as well.
3. Empire of the Vampire – Jay Kristoff
I preordered this almost a year ago! You’d think I would read it as soon as it arrived. I guess I was intimidated by the size haha? There are amazing reviews out there and I think I will love it as soon as I read it. Maybe I can read all my unread Jay Kristoff books this year…
4. Blessed Monsters – Emily A. Duncan
I loved Emily’s debut and I really enjoyed the sequel. My expectations are pretty high for this last book in the trilogy but I have no idea where the story will go. I planned on reading it as soon as I got but that clearly didn’t happen. Somehow I haven’t read any reviews yet and I think I want to keep it that way until I do actually read it.
5. As Good As Dead – Holly Jackson
I really planned on reading this as soon as I got it. The first 2,5 books were amazing and I flew through them. These are my kind of YA mystery thrillers! I really plan on reading it this year, but I am scared after seeing some 1 star reviews haha.
6. Bloodwitch – Susan Dennard
I was planning on reading this before Witchshadow was released but unfortunately that didn’t happen. Now I do want to read this soon, so I can also read book 4 before book 5 is released. Since there doesn’t seem to be a date yet, just 2022, I hope I can actually do that.
7. A Girl Called Shameless – Laura Steven
After loving Laura’s The Love Hypothesis it really felt time to finally read this sequel to The Exact Opposite of Okay. I loved both books a lot and I’m sure this one will be great and really funny. Laura is a great writer and a lovely person, can’t wait for her next book.
8. Five Dark Fates – Kendare Blake
This one has been on so many similar lists already! I just have to go ahead and read this one asap because it’s getting ridiculous haha. It’s one of my favorite series and I’m kinda scared for where this is going. I only have about half of the book to go so I really feel like I should read it this year.
9. The Dragon Republic – R.F. Kuang
I loved The Poppy War, even though it was very brutal. And I have high hopes for the rest of the series. I also have the third book so I could just binge the whole series and I think I might want to do that. This seems like a good book for a holiday and I think I planned on reading it this summer, maybe next?
10. Jade City – Fonda Lee
I haven’t had this book for that long yet but I did plan on reading it in 2021. It had been on my wishlist for a while and I’ve seen amazing reviews for the whole series. This seems like a book and a series I will love a lot and I’m very excited to find out if that’s the case.

And those were 10 of the books I had planned on reading in 2021 but just didn’t get to. It’s not surprising with how little I read this year but I’m still pretty sad for a lot of these. Hopefully in 2022! Have you read any of these? Which one should I start with? Let me know in the comments!
Hope you can get through them asap!

I finally finished The Poppy War trilogy in 2021 – very worth it (just as brutal). I have the Jade City series on my TBR for this year hopefully.
As Good as Dead is much darker that the previous two, and I can understand why people don’t like how Pip acts, but I think it’s making a valid point. Anyway, it’s certainly not 1 star in quality.

I didn’t get to Blessed Monsters either. I need to try to read it this year.
Great list! I can’t believe I didn’t get around to reading Hollwpox last year after being so excited for it. The same goes for House of Earth and Blood and Dragon Republic, but I’m hoping to get to them this year. I hope you enjoy these books whenever you get to them! Happy reading 😃

I still need to catch up on Good Girl, Bad Blood before I can get to As Good As Dead. I read A Girl Called Shameless a couple of years ago and enjoyed it, though I liked the first book better.

I still haven’t read Truthwitch OR The Poppy War. I’m so far behind. sigh
Here is our Top Ten Tuesday. Thank you!
I hope you love all of them!

Happy TTT!

Bloodwitch is my fav of all of them so far, including Witchshadow. Maybe because Aeduan’s my fav haha. I also concur that As Good As Dead isn’t necessarily 1 star material, just very different from the first two books. Just expect that it’s different and it should be okay
The Green Bone Saga is amazing and so is the Morrigan Crow series. Happy reading! My TTT https://readwithstefani.com/2022-resolutions-and-goals/
