Every year we try to set ourselves some goals. At the end of 2021 we set our 2022 reading goals but today we want to give the final update on the 2021 reading goals we set about a year ago! We gave an update (part 1 and part 2) about half way through the year so you might have an idea whether we actually reached our goals. Let’s jump in!
Candyce
So 2021 was another interesting reading year. At the beginning of the year I gave myself 6 reading goals. I know I didn’t reach all of them and I’m okay with that. I made a lot of progress reading wise and I’m hoping to do so again this year. First let’s see how I did in 2021!
Goodreads (200 Books)
So I wanted to read 200 books in 2021 and I ended up reaching that goal and I read 209 books. Not as much as the past few years, but I’m happy with this number. There really weren’t any reading slumps last year, but I did have certain periods that I just didn’t read as much.
Netgalley Feedback Ratio 80%
I failed this goal so bad, haha. When I started I had a feedback ratio of 44%. At the moment I’m at 35%. This is so bad, haha. I will be able to get it back up over 40%, because I realized recently that I have 18 books I can turn in. So I will be sitting down to do this soon. It’s gotten worse since I’ve been running TBR and Beyond Tours and getting all of our tour arcs. It’s a lot of fun, but not good for my feedback ratio.
Physical TBR/Backlist Books (50 books)
So I didn’t get the 50 backlist books, but I read more backlist books in 2021 than I have in the years before this one. I ended up reading 34 backlist books and I’m very proud of myself. I’m hoping to get to 50 in 2021!
ARCs (less ARCs, more own books)
Like I’ve said in my update a couple of years ago 50% of the books I read were ARCs. I enjoyed reading those, but I ended up getting even more behind on my owned books. So I wanted to be conscious of how balanced I was reading. I definitely succeeded in 2021. Out of all the books I read only 23.6% were ARCs. I do want to get through more Netgalley ARCs in 2022, so while my percentage probably will be higher I do want to continue reading more books already on my shelves.
Re-Reading (12 Books)
I love re-reading, but I noticed I didn’t really let myself. There are so many unread books on my shelf, so I almost felt guilty picking up a book for a second or third time. In 2021 I ended up re-reading 16 books. I didn’t make this a goal for 2022, but do plan on doing at least a few re-reads!
Series (Finish 12 Series)
Reading series is a lot of fun, but I’m so bad at finishing the. You don’t want to know how many series I could finish by reading just one book, haha, In 2021 I finished 8 series and 6 of them were started before 2021. I didn’t reach my goal, but I finished more than I expected.
Isabelle
So I think we all saw this coming, but I FAILED at my goals and I failed hard haha. I only set 4 goals and I hoped really hard that I would at least reached a couple of those….. This year I’ve been very busy and I will be for another couple of months. That meant I couldn’t read as much as I wanted unfortunately. Let’s see how hard I failed.
Goodreads | 100 books so I read 81 books in 2021. Not even close to a 100 haha. I will say I really enjoyed the books I read so I’m not bad about this. Last year I failed as well, I really hope I can get it in 2022 after finishing my studies.
Netgalley | 80% feedback ratio I started with a ratio of 37%… And I ended with 38%. Kinda hilarious how bad I failed at that one. I felt like I did quite a good job during the year but apparently not haha. Maybe I set myself a way to ambitious goal as I would have to read at least 50 books or so to reach this goal and that was never going to happen. Hopefully I will actually up the ratio a bit next year.
Physical TBR/Backlist Books | 50 backlist books I was really hoping to reach this goal. My TBR keeps on growing and I would love to put a stop to that… I read 11 backlist books, so not that many. If you add the other books from my own collection I did read 30, a lot closer to my goal. Hopefully I can continue this in 2022 and finally end a year with a lower TBR count than I started with.
Series | finishing 12 series well…. I’ve never before reached this goal. This year I finished 3 series, and started a couple more as I always do haha. I might need to skip this goal at some point but I really hope to reach it at least once.
And that was the final roundup of our 2021 reading goals! How do you think we did? Do you set yourself reading goals? And did you manage to reach them? Let us know down below!
I think you did good. I like how you track your books. Seeing Lara Jean on your reread list makes me want to reread the series. Great post!
Yeah, I’m a big fan of statistics and I’m thankful my boyfriend is good at making me Excel sheets, haha.
I wish I could read that much 😭
It’s honestly my commute to work that really helps. It’s 9 hours a week I get to read, haha.
