Last week the first episodes of The Wheel of Time aired and of course I watched them right away. Right now there are 4 episodes out and I watched them all. I wanted to give my opinions on these 4 episodes and my hopes for the rest of the show. Let’s jump in!
Set in a high fantasy world where magic exists, but only some can access it, a woman named Moiraine crosses paths with five young men and women. This sparks a dangerous, world-spanning journey. Based on the book series by Robert Jordan.
Right now there are 4 episodes out on Prime Video. Each are about an hour long. There will be 8 episodes this first season and it looks like a second season is already confirmed.
Last week I finished the first book in the series but I hadn’t read it in full yet when I watched the first three episodes. When comparing the two I think the show did a really good job. Yes there are some changes but since I haven’t read all of the books yet I can’t say whether they changed something major that will effect the rest of the show. So far I’m okay with the changes.
We are halfway through the first season and I think the world is pretty well established. I’m sure we will get a big expansion over the course of the whole show but for now it’s pretty clear I think. We get a good feel for the world, the magic system and some of the politics. I don’t mind not knowing everything, as it seems like our main characters don’t know everything either. So we are learning together.
The opening scenes each episode are little side steps to the overall story and I’ll admit they don’t always land that well. Some of them are amazing but others could’ve been done differently and more effective. I do really enjoy the visuals in this series, we got some visually pleasing views and I really liked watching the episodes.
The actors are doing a great job in my opinion. I really liked who they cast for the roles and of course I’m super proud a Dutchie is playing the role of Rand. Mat is one of my favorite characters in the show and I love his portrayal. Unfortunately the actor is being replaced for the second season and I’m really sad about that actually. Hopefully the new actor will do a great job as well. The other actors are wonderful too and I’m very happy with their performance.
For the rest of the season I hope they don’t move too fast. I really hope they take their time at important moments and let the actors shine in those quieter scenes. Of course I also hope we don’t have to wait a whole year for the next season haha. I would definitely recommend watching this show and give it at least two episodes before deciding if you’re going to continue. The pacing can be a bit off in some of the episodes but overall I think this show is definitely worth it!
Episode 4 has defo been my fave so far!
I’ve been enjoying it too. It definitely hold my attention. ❤️
I have been loving the show! Looking forward to seeing what rolls out.
