This past week I watched a preview of Pretty Smart and randomly decided to watch the first episode. Turned out it was pretty hilarious haha. And I ended up watching the whole show and now I can’t wait for the second season. It also got me thinking about other hilarious Netflix shows and today I want to talk a bit about some of them! So let’s jump in.
Pretty Smart
1 season, 10 episodes
A self-proclaimed intellectual, forced to move in with her carefree sister and her sister’s lovably eccentric friends.
So this was my latest Netflix comedy. I don’t watch a ton of comedies and I actually always think I don’t like them haha. But this one reminded me that I enjoy them a lot every now and then. And this one was just really funny. It had some very predictable moments and some dumb humor. But it also had really surprising twists and super funny jokes. Overall a great comedy and like I said, I can’t wait for the second season after that ending!
The Crew
1 season, 10 episodes
Life in the garage swerves off track for a NASCAR crew chief and his tight-knit racing team when a new boss steps in and shakes things up.
I had forgotten about this show to be honest. But it was a lot of fun! It had some actors I like a lot so that always helps. I also love Formula 1 so I really appreciated the setting of this show. While I wasn’t planning on watching this show, I somehow ended up watching it in no time at all. Unfortunately there won’t be a second season, but I’d still recommend watching this first season.
Alexa & Katie
4 seasons, 40 episodes
Lifelong best friends Alexa Mendoza and Katie Cooper are anticipating the start of their freshman year of high school. They confront a crisis that leaves them feeling like outsiders at a time when fitting in is what seems to matter most.
One of the actors of The Crew I knew from Alexa & Katie. Probably my favorite Netflix comedy. I love this show so much and I’m really sad it’s concluded. After the final season I wrote a Show Sunday post, you can find it through the link in the title. This show has a lot of heart, it’s funny, it brings up some important issues and it just wriggled its way into my heart.
One Day at a Time
4 seasons (3 on Netflix), 46 episodes
Follows three generations of the same Cuban-American family living in the same house: a newly divorced former military mother, her teenage daughter and tween son, and her old-school mother.
Another amazing show! This is probably my number 2. I loved the first three season so so much. We got to see a lot of important topics and I have shed some tears. It was also just really funny, as you’d expect from a comedy haha. After Netflix cancelled the show it got moved to another network and there is a fourth season. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to watch it yet, but I still hold out hope.
The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia
1 season, 15 episodes
Ashley Garcia, the world’s only 15-and-a-half-year-old robotics engineer and rocket scientist, gets the chance to work for NASA. She moves across the country to live with her Uncle Victor, a pro football player turned high school coach.
This one had a funny first part and I still need to watch the second part. I really enjoyed the show and the characters. A lot of jokes were very predictable but it was all done quite well. It’s not the best comedy I’ve ever seen at all but it’s still worth a watch! I need to watch the second part soon, I can’t wait to see what happens next.
Five really funny Netflix comedies! If you need something fun to watch (maybe after being scared too much on Halloween) I would recommend picking one of these shows. They all bring something else, but they all made me laugh out loud. And sometimes that’s all you need! Have you seen any of these? Would you recommend them? Let me know down below!
Thanks for this list — especially as we are getting into indoor, cozy tv weather. I only knew Alexa and Katie on this list!
I forgot about The Crew – I need to check that out. I do love a good comedy.
