It’s been quite a while since I did a Try A Chapter. Last time I did it as a tag but I didn’t want to wait until next week because these are Halloween books or spooky books. So I want to try these to figure out which book I’ll be reading this weekend. I picked 4 books so let’s take a look and try those chapters!
The ‘tag’ is super easy, you pick some books, you read up to the first chapter including the prologue and you decide which book will be your next read. Like I said I picked 4 books, most of these were featured in my TTT from this Tuesday. The first chapters differ a lot in length so that’s always interesting. Two books are by authors I haven’t read before and two are by authors I have read before. Let’s see which books I picked and how long those first chapters are.
Alice – Christina Henry
27 pages
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown – Holly Black
10 pages
Girl of Nightmares – Kendare Blake
26 pages
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer – Michelle Hodkin
4 pages
Alice – Christina Henry
This was not what I was expecting! I actually really enjoyed this first chapter. Christina has a great writing style from what I gathered and I want to know what happens next. I also want to know what happened before because we are thrown in the middle of the story. Definitely happy that I read this first chapter.
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer – Michelle Hodkin
This was a really short chapter to judge. With only 4 pages it’s hard to really get a feel for the story and the writing style but I have to say I wasn’t disappointed! To be honest, I don’t have high expectations for this one but it starts off decent.
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown – Holly Black
Okay, that was a great first chapter! I went in pretty blind on purpose and that was a great decision. There were already some exciting things happening in these first 10 pages and I definitely wanted to read the next chapter as well.
Girl of Nightmares – Kendare Blake
I forgot I got this one in Dutch and I had to get used to reading in Dutch again This first chapter did a good job of reminding me of the first book in the duology. But I have to say, this didn’t really grab me. I’m not invested and there is a chance I might just unhaul this one if I’m being honest.
This was a pretty successful try a chapter in my opinion! I’m excited to read Alice and The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. Mara Dyer was better than I expected, although I only read 4 pages. And I might unhaul Girl of Nightmares because I don’t think I will ever pick it up. Have you read any of these books? What do you think of my decision? Let me know down below!
I love The Coldest Girl in Coldtown! I hope you enjoy the rest of it 🙂
