We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
This week’s topic is a Halloween freebie and I decided to go with Books I Keep Saving For Halloween. There are some books I always think I want to read around Halloween. But there are a lot more than I end up reading around that time haha. Let’s take a look at all the books I still want to read around Halloween.
1&2. Escaping From Houdini & Capturing the Devil – Kerri Maniscalco
I’ve been planning on reading these books for spooky season since I got them haha. These are the last two books in the series and I would love to have finished this series. I think October is the perfect month for these books but I might have to let go of that because I just want to finish the series haha.
3&4. The Near Witch & The Dark Vault- V.E. Schwab
I love V.E. Schwab so much and I’m kinda sad I still have these books to read. Apart from these I have another bind-up of hers I own but that isn’t really a Halloween one in my opinion. These two are though! But at some point I just have to get on it and pick them up because I can’t stand having so many unread Schwab books.
5. A Discovery of Witches – Deborah Harkness
This one has been on my list for a long while! And especially since the tv show came out I’ve been planning on reading it. But I still haven’t… This is a pretty big book and I think a slower one so not something I should read now I’m a bit slumpish. Hopefully soon though!
6. The Coldest Girl in Coldtown – Holly Black
This is an older book and maybe that’s why I haven’t picked it up yet. I really like Holly’s newer stuff but after hating Tithe I have been a bit hesitant. At some point I do plan on reading it and I think it will be a pretty quick read!
7. Written in Red – Anne Bishop
Another one I’ve head for years! This is also pretty big and I think slower, but I have to say that isn’t really based on anything haha. I still want to read this one for sure and once I’m in the mood I will pick it up!
8. Girl of Nightmares – Kendare Blake
I really like Kendare Blake and enjoyed the first book in this duology. This is also one where I just need to read one book to finish a series. Would be great if I manage to do so this year haha.
9&10. Alice & Red Queen – Christina Henry
I own a couple of Christina Henry books now and I still haven’t read any of them. This seems like perfect Halloween books and I should just give them a try. Once I’ve read one I’ll know if Christina is for me and if I should read the rest or just unhaul them.

That was my Top Ten Tuesday this week! If I can only read one ‘Halloween’ book this year, which one would you recommend I pick up? And which book are you reading for Halloween? Let me know in the comments!
Hi Isabelle! I also tend to save my scary reads for Fraterfest that has just finished. I don’t recognize the books on your list, but I am going to take a look so that I can start stocking up for next year!
Happy Halloween! Here’s my Ten Pets you can get at Stephen King’s Pet Shop
I hope you enjoy all of these books!

I don’t own anything by Christina Henry but I do want to read some. I also want to re-read the Stalking Jack the Ripper series. Well, the final three. I re-read the first already but I read the second and third as ARCS so I want to read the finished version and then finally read Capturing the Devil as I haven’t read them at all. And hey, these are all great Fall/Winter reads regardless of Halloween!

The Coldest Girl in Coldtown is on my Halloween TBR too – I keep meaning to read it and this time of year seems like the perfect time. I’ve only ever read Holly’s Cruel Prince series, so I want to read more of her stuff!

I’m always looking for scary but not gory reads, pretty much any time of the year.

I have been meaning to read Written in Red for years! And I loved A Discovery of Witches…it’s on the longer side, but I thought it was well paced and only took me two days to get through it. I really liked it, obviously!

Happy TTT!

Well I haven’t read any of these, but I’ve only heard good things of The Coldest Girl in Cold Town.
Happy reading!

Written in Red! You’re right, it really had the spooky vibes going on. Not safe for humans, that Other World.

Great list! Haha I also keep meaning to read A Discovery of Witches, and then keep not reading it…

I haven’t read any of these, but I’d probably recommend finishing one of the series (probably the Girl of Nightmares, since it’s a single) so you get the double satisfaction of spooky book during spooky month AND finishing a storyline you’ve been hanging on.
I’m reading What Big Teeth by Rose Szabo, which I’m hoping will scratch that werewolf itch I’ve been having and which my last couple tries fell short of…

I don’t think I’ve ever intentionally left a book to read in a specific season, other than Christmas books. Of course, I’m not a huge fan of spooky books, so that could be part of it.

VE Schwab books never stay on my TBR shelf for very long. I still need to read the 2 on your list. I want to own them, but I haven’t been able to find any cheap copies when I have money. 🙂
