If you’ve been following this blog for a while now you’ll know how much of a fan I am of LJ Evans. She writes books that suck you in and just don’t let you go even after you’ve read the last page. Crossed by the Stars is her newest release and today I want to tell you what I thought! Keep on reading to find out more about the book and my thoughts.
A big thanks to the author for providing me with an e-arc to read and review.
A heartfelt, star-crossed HEA with a protective French billionaire and the daring woman he can’t have that The BookLife Prize from Publisher’s Weekly rates a 10/10!
“We’re worth fighting for. A life full of love will always be worth it.”
Dax Armaud has spent the last decade haunted by feelings for the one woman he can never be with. Family secrets mean just being seen with a Mori is a dangerous dance let alone dating one. But a desperate call sends him spinning back into Jada’s life, and now he can’t walk away without leaving half his soul behind.
For years, Jada Mori fought the ties to her father’s world while healing a broken heart. She thought she’d finally escaped both until a shadow creeps out of her past seeking retribution. When Dax shows up trying to protect her, she’s determined to send him away before her mistakes destroy them.
Forced into hiding, the tantalizing desire hovering between them refuses to be ignored, and in the end, they’ll have to decide what matters most―family allegiances or a chance at a forever after.
Inspired by Imelda May’s “Falling in Love with You Again,” comes an emotional, second-chance romance with deep, relatable characters and a story you might never forget.
Review
“I hated that, out of all the things in my world that had tried to undo me, he was the one that actually could.”
I think I start off almost every review for a book by this author with this sentence, but LJ Evans really has done it again. Corssed by the Stars finally gave Jada and Dax their story and it was everything I hoped for. This author always gives us epic romances, but this book got a lot darker than previous books, but it was so good! I was on the edge of my seat while reading this one I definitely was just hoping these two characters would get their happily ever after!
Jada is a character we met in previous books and I’ve been hoping she’d get a book. Her family life is complicated and she made many choices that weren’t good for her to escape reality for a bit. Jada doesn’t let anyone close, because she doesn’t want anyone to get hurt by her father and the life she was brought into. This woman deserves so much more though, because she’s loving, protective, hardworking and deserves someone that will break down all her walls.
“Her lush, dark lashes were unable to hide the tired that screamed from her soul.”
Dax was a character I’ve been curious about since we met him and I wasn’t sure what to think at first. He’s charming and definitely has women wanting him. Just like Jada he has a family history that’s complicated, but he loves his family. Reading Dax’s POV was really interesting, because we got to see a different side of him. He’ll do about anything to protect the ones he loves and he’s very stubborn. I loved his personality and his need for Jada to just let him in.
Then there’s the chemistry between Jada and Dax. It’s so clear there’s an attraction and even love, but life has gotten in their way one too many times. Dax is determined to make Jada his and to keep her safe and Jada is determined to keep him away and keep her walls up. I loved watching their story unfold. It was steamy, sweet, loving, and so much more!
Again, LJ Evans created a playlist for this story and it fit the feeling of the story so well. I love how music is always incorporated in her books. It’s a great addition to a story filled with amazing characters and story line. Besides the romance I loved the suspenseful side of the story. It had me on the edge of my seat and I really didn’t see some of the events coming. I honestly could continue the list of things I loved about this book, but you really need to read it yourself. This book made me angry, laugh, cry, but also just sit there with a big smile on my face.
I already said this in my review, but LJ Evans did it again. She hit me in all the feels and I won’t be forgetting Jada and Dax anytime soon. As always I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next book by this author. If you love epic romances, amazing characters, a great soundtrack and a book that hits you in all the feels I recommend any of LJ’s books!
