Looking Back At Our Bookhauls | July 2020

Once again it’s that time to write our scariest post of the month, haha. It’s time for a new looking back at our bookhauls post. Have we read any of the books we bought the year before? We’re hoping to encourage ourselves to read more of the books we buy. Today we’ll be looking back at our July 2020 bookhaul. Let’s take a look to see how we did!

Candyce

In July 2020 I added 12 books to my shelves and had already read a few when I wrote the haul post. If I’m honest after a quick glance I don’t think I’ve read anymore since then. Oops! Let’s see what books I’ve read and which ones I haven’t.

Rage and Ruin – Jennifer L. Armentrout
Read

Jennifer L. Armentrout did it again with the sequel in this trilogy. I really enjoyed Rage and Ruin and the last sentence of this book really left me hanging. The third and finally book released 2 months ago and I need to read it ASAP!

Wicked – Jennifer L. Armentrout
Read

When I bought the paperback of Wicked it was for a reread. I had already read the e-book a few years before adding this to my shelves. I loved diving back into the world and I’ll definitely read this trilogy again in the future.

Shielded – KayLynn Flanders
Read

I actually started reading the e-arc for Shielded for a book tour when I knew I would want to own this book physically. The cover is stunning and even has a hidden design on the naked hardcover. The sequel/companion book just came into the world and I’ll be reading it soon. I highly recommend this one though!

Little Creeping Things – Chelsea Ichaso
Unread

Why haven’t I read this one yet?!? I’ve really been enjoying YA thrillers and I’ve heard amazing things about Little Creeping Things. I’m making sure to keep this one in mind to read near Halloween.

Mexican Gothic – Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Unread

Another one I’m really surprised I haven’t read yet to be honest. I’m kind of thinking I waited some time until the hype wasn’t as a big. Just like the previous book I’ll be adding this to read near Halloween.

Rebel Spy – Veronica Rossi
Unread

I bought Rebel Spy, because I was interested in reading more historical fiction and heard some great reviews about it. Even though I still haven’t read this one, Rebel Spy is on my list of books I’m still really curious about.

Loveless – Alice Oseman
Unread

After reading the first two volumes of Heartstopper I decided I wanted to own more Alice Oseman books, because I’d heard a lot of amazing things about them. Since adding Loveless to my shelf I’ve only read the third volume of Heartstopper. I need to correct that soon.

Get Even – Gretchen McNeil
Unread

I bought Get Even to read before the Netflix adaptation. I still haven’t read this book, but I’ve also only seen one episode of the show. I’m thinking this is another book to add to my TBR when it’s dark and rainy.

You Should See Me in a Crown -Leah Johson
Read

You Should See Me in a Crown is a book I truly loved. It had everything I love in a contemporary and then some. The author recently released a second book and I need to get to that one.

The Jumbies – Tracey Baptiste
Read

I bought this for a middle grade book club and read it during July. The Jumbies was definitely a spooky middle grade story, but also heartwarming at the same time. I still want to read the rest of this series.

Take a Hint, Dani Brown – Talia Hibbert
Unread

After loving Get a Life, Chloe Brown I didn’t have to think long before I ordered the sequel in this trilogy. Again, I’m really surprised I haven’t read this book yet. Especially with the third and finally book being out in the world now. I really need to change this.

Burn Our Bodies Down  – Rory Power
Unread

Horror is a genre I’ve enjoyed more than I expected, so when I read the synopsis of Burn Our Bodies Down I have to say I was curious. I haven’t read it yet, but definitely see this being more of an Autumn read.

Read: 5/12 – 41.7%

Isabelle

July was one of my ‘bigger’ bookhauls compared to the months before. I added 5 new books to my TBR after a trip to bookstores in Amsterdam. No surprises for me in this round, so let’s take a look haha.

Pet – Akwaeke Emezi
Read

I’ll admit I haven’t actually finished reading this at the point of writing this post haha. But once I finish I plan on reading the last couple of chapters. It’s an extremely unique read and I’m excited to see what will happen next.

The Black Tulip – Alexandre Dumas
Unread

I don’t read that many classics so this one is still on my TBR. But when I came across that gorgeous edition I just had to have it. I’m okay with not having read this one yet as I’m sure I will pick it up some day. Just have to be in the right mood ;).

Good Girl, Bad Blood – Holly Jackson
Read

I actually bought this one before I read the first book in the series haha. But I was very happy to have this one ready when I did finish that first book. I love this series so so much and I hope to read the third book soon!

Everyday Angel – Victoria Schwab
Unread

I do really want to read this one at some point as Victoria is one of my favorite authors. But I will say I don’t plan on reading it soon. There are so many books on my TBR and there are others that call to me a lot more now.

Death Note Black Edition vol. 3 – Tsugumi Ohba
Read

This is one of my most recent reads! I was expecting to read it a lot sooner to be honest, but I’m very happy I did finally read this third volume. Death Note is a very enjoyable manga and I did recently order the next two volumes haha.
