As a contemporary reader I was really excited when I read about The Right Side of Reckless. This book sounded right up my alley, so I’m really excited to participate in the book tour hosted by TBR and Beyond Tours. Today I’ll be telling you all about the book and sharing the interview I got to do with the author. Keep on reading to find out more!
The Right Side of Reckless by Whitney D. Grandison
Genre: Young Adult Contemporary
Publishing Date: July 13, 2021
He’s never met a rule he didn’t break… She’s followed the rules her whole life… When they meet, one golden rule is established: stay away. Sparks fly in this edgy own voices novel, perfect for fans of Sandhya Menon, S. K. Ali, and Kristina Forest.
They were supposed to ignore each other and respect that fine line between them…
Guillermo Lozano is getting a fresh start. New town, new school, and no more reckless behavior. He’s done his time, and now he needs to right his wrongs. But when his work at the local community center throws him into the path of the one girl who is off-limits, friendship sparks…and maybe more.
Regan London needs a fresh perspective. The pressure to stay in her “perfect” relationship and be the good girl all the time has worn her down. But when the walls start to cave in and she finds unexpected understanding from the boy her parents warned about, she can’t ignore her feelings anymore.
The disapproval is instant. Being together might just get Guillermo sent away. But when it comes to the heart, sometimes you have to break the rules and be a little bit reckless…

Author Interview
What inspired you to start writing?
When I was in the second grade, my teacher really liked the short stories I would write and her belief and championing me really gave me joy in what I was doing. I liked reading, so creating my own worlds was a fun next step.
What is your all time favorite book and why?
My all-time favorite book would be the Catcher in the Rye, I like to credit it for saving my life when I was sixteen. I read it for the wrong reasons, and I didn’t expect to relate so much to Holden’s character and voice. Seeing how his story turned out for him, gave me hope to keep going.
Besides writing, what other hobbies or interests do you have?
I’m very much a homebody, if I’m not writing, I’m definitely reading or watching a movie. Next to my massive book collection, I’ve got a great film and TV collection too.
Describe your book in five words or less.
Strength, Redemption, Voice, Risk, FEELS
What is your favorite quote from The Right Side of Reckless?
My favorite quote from Right Side has to be: “With everything I knew that he was fire, and thought if I touched him, I would get burned, but for just a small moment, I didn’t care.” It’s a Regan quote and it totally emphasizes the risk that pursuing Guillermo is.
If you could be a character in your own book, what kind of a role would you play?
I’d definitely be Jenaya’s character, I admire her strength and ability to push forward. I also love her flair for clothing, makeup, and hair.
