It’s the first day of May and it’s time to talk about the books we added to our shelves in April. What did our month end up like? Did we add a lot? Or were we good? Keep on reading to find out in our April bookhaul.
Candyce
I have to say when April started I definitely wasn’t planning on adding as many books to my collections as I did, haha. In April I added a total of 11 books. I didn’t buy them all though. Out of the 11 books I added: 5 were gifts, 5 were bought by me and 1 I received from the publisher. Let’s take a look.
Isabelle and I celebrated our birthdays a month late, but it was still fun, haha. I got five books from here and I can’t wait to read them.
The Girl with All the Gifts – M.R. Carey
I’ve wanted this book for quite awhile. When Isabelle and I visited a bookstore (a really long time ago) we saw it and she mentioned how good it was. From what I’ve heard it’s best to read this one without knowing much and just diving in.
Moxie – Jennifer Mathieu
Moxie is also another book I’ve known about for awhile and want to read. Recently it became a Netflix movie. I’m the type of person that needs/wants to read the book before watching the adaption. This is the type of book I can easily read in one go and I’m excited to do so.
Our Year of Maybe – Rachel Lynn Solomon
After reading Today Tonight Tomorrow I’ve been wanting to read this author’s backlog. Our Year of Maybe seems like it will be an emotional read, but definitely one I’ll love. Also, look at this cover. I love it!
Winterwood – Shea Ernshaw
The Wicked Deep was a book I really enjoyed and was excited about Winterwood. It’s just been a book I haven’t gotten around to. Also, I was waiting for it to be released in paperback. That finally happened and I have a feeling this will be another magical read.
Parachutes – Kelly Yang
Parachutes is a book I’ve seen talked about on bookstagram. It’s actually bigger than I expected, but sounds really good. I have a feeling this book also deals with more serious subjects, but it sounds really interesting.
Then I added five books to my collection for group/buddy reads and just because they sound really good!
Among the Beasts & Briar – Ashley Poston
I started reading the e-book of this and was loving it so much I knew it needed to be on my shelf as well. Among the Beasts & Briar could’ve possibly been a cover buy, but I can tell you the story is amazing as well.
Last Night at the Telegraph Club – Malinda Lo
Another book that I’ve been seeing everywhere lately and that sounds amazing. I’ve been wanting to read more historical fiction lately and Last Night at the Telegraph Club sounds like a perfect one to read.
House of Hollow – Krystal Sutherland
If you’ve been on bookstagram you definitely didn’t miss this book right before it released. House of Hollow sounds a bit darker/scarier than what I normally read, but it sounds amazing. I’ve read so many positive reviews that I need to give it a go. A friend and I will be reading this one in May.
Firekeeper’s Daughter – Angeline Boulley
For TBR and Beyond I’ll be reading Firekeeper’s Daughter. This is another new release with a lot of amazing reviews. When I saw the cover I wasn’t expecting this to be a thriller, but it definitely caught my eye.
The Crown of Gilded Bones – Jennifer L. Armentrout
Of course I needed this one! Jennifer L. Armentrout is one of my favorite authors and this series is just addicting! We’ll also be reading it for the Swoonalong I help host in the TBR and Beyond group!
And last but not least I was sent a book by Harper360 YA! I signed up for a couple books after they sent out their latest newsletter and this was waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday!
The (Un)Popular Vote – Jasper Sanchez
Look at this amazing cover! I have to say that politics is something I do find interesting and this one is going to have a lot of things surrounding that that will be interesting. This is a June release, so I’ll be reading it soon!
Isabelle
This month felt like another birthday month haha. Candyce and I got together and gifted each other a bunch of books. I also got 2 preorders in, ordered one book and got another one of the books I ordered with my gift card. In total I added 10 books to my collection! Last month I forgot to add 4 books to the haul I got for my birthday so I will be adding them today real quick!
March books
The Bone Shard Daughter – Andrea Stewart
My brother got me a couple of books for my birthday and I was very excited to receive The Bone Shard Daughter. I have heard nothing but amazing things about this one and I can’t wait to read it. Hopefully soon!
Lore – Alexandra Bracken
I really liked Alexandra’s books I read so far and this one sounds really cool as well. So of course I wanted this badly. I can’t wait to read this one soon, but for now I’ll look at that beautiful cover.
SpyxFamily 1 – Tatsuya Endo
This manga was a recommendation in a youtube video I saw and I was very happy to get it for my birthday. I did already read it and enjoyed it a lot! The rest of the series is on my wishlist already haha.
The Apothecary Diaries 1 – Natsu Hyuuga
The last one my brother gifted me! It’s another manga and I haven’t read it yet. To be honest, I don’t remember what this one’s about but I’m sure it sounded great haha.
April books
This Is Not the Jess Show – Anna Carey
I was so sure Candyce would get me this one when I put it on my wishlist haha. We finished our buddy read last week and while it wasn’t what I expected I did enjoy it.
The Inheritance Games – Jennifer Lynn Barnes
This was one of my very favorite books of 2020 and I am so happy to own a physical copy now. The sequel is one of my most anticipated releases of this year and I definitely plan on getting a physical copy for that one as well.
Before the Devil Breaks You – Libba Bray
I loved The Diviners and plan on reading the rest of the series. With this one I now own the first three books. I will get the fourth one at some point but probably want to read the second book first haha.
They Wish They Were Us – Jessica Goodman
I love reading YA mysteries and they have been my favorite books to pick up lately. So it’s great having another one on my shelves. I expect I will pick this one up quite soon.
Fruits Basket 3 – Natsuki Takaya
I adored the first two (collector’s edition) volumes of Fruits Basket and I’m so happy I can continue reading the story now. This will be one I pick up quite soon I think.
A Dark and Hollow Star – Ashley Shuttleworth
Candyce had two copies of this one since this one was battered down quite badly in the mail. She got the keep it so the gifted it to me. Since it’s a free book I don’t mind the damage and I’m just excited to read this story!
Blessed Monsters – Emily A. Duncan
I loved the first two books in this series and I love love love this edition I got. The inside is really pretty, great end papers and a nice naked hardback. I’m very excited to see how this series will end.
Rule of Wolves – Leigh Bardugo
The Grishaverse is one of my favorite universes out there and I can’t wait to see how this duology ends. Also, how pretty is this book? Candyce and I are rereading the Six of Crows duology and will also buddy read King of Scars before Rule of Wolves. I’m excited to have everything fresh in my mind before reading Rule of Wolves.
The Hill We Climb – Amanda Gorman
I loved Amanda’s inaugural poem and I really like her as a person as well. So I wanted to support her and decided to get a copy of her poem. I did read it and it’s so well written, I’m already thinking of rereading it.
Descender – Jeff Lemire & Dustin Nguyen
This was another book I got with my gift card, just one more book to arrive haha. I’m excited to get into this graphic novel series, I’ve heard great things!
And that were our book hauls for April! Did we get any books you got as well? Which ones should we read first? Let us know down below!
Firekeeper’s Daughter and Last Night at the Telegraph Club are both fantastic.
