We keep repeating ourselves, but how is it possible that it’s already time to talk about next month’s new releases?!? This year seems to be flying by. May is always a crazy month for book releases and it’s safe to say we really need more time to read all of the books we want. Keep on reading to find out what our anticipated May releases are!
The Ones We’re Meant to Find – Joan He (May 4th)
We both have an eARC for this one and plan on reading it soon! The cover is gorgeous and the synopsis sounds really cool. It’s a bit mystery, a bit sci-fi and all about siblings.
Better Than the Movies – Lynn Painter (May 4th)
As a big fan of romcoms I knew I needed it when I saw the title. Life isn’t like a movie, but can it be better? I have an ARC and will be posting my review around release day!
Blade of Secrets – Tricia Levenseller (May 4th)
This is the first book in Tricia’s newest series, and its set in a fantasy world. We follow Ziva who forges a blade that steals secrets from people, how cool does that sound?
Meet Cute Diary – Emery Lee (May 4th)
Another amazing cover (which is happening more and more these days)! I have a feeling this book will definitely show us that there’s no such thing as a perfect relationship. Also, the main character has a blog. That scores points with me.
Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry – Joya Goffney (May 4th)
I’ve seen quite a few early readers posting positive reviews about this book. Excuse Me While I Ugly Cry is enemies to lovers and that’s one of my favorite tropes.
Sunkissed – Kasie West (May 4th)
Katie West writes quite a few YA contemporaries and they’re the perfect summer reads. I’ve only read a few, but Starkissed is one that’s high on my list. It even takes place in the summer, so definitely good timing for it to release now.
Luck of the Titanic – Stacey Lee (May 4th)
A historical fiction about British-Chinese acrobats aboard the Titanic. We all know were this story will lead us, but I’m sure it will make for a thrilling read!
Realm Breaker – Victoria Aveyard (May 4th)
I really like Victoria Aveyard and this newest YA fantasy series sounds quite interesting. While I didn’t love all of her previous books I do have good hopes for this one!
Take Me Home Tonight – Morgan Matson (May 4th)
I love Morgan Matson’s contemporaries and this one won’t be an exception, I’m sure of it. It sounds wonderful and I also really like that cover!! I still have a couple unread on my shelves but I hope to rectify that soon.
10 Truths and a Dare – Ashley Elston (May 4th)
This is one of my most anticipated of the year. I loved Ashley’s previous novels and this is a companion to one of my favorite novels; 10 Blind Dates. It was amazing and I can’t wait to read about this family again.
Arsenic and Adobo – Mia P. Manansala (May 4th)
Cozy mysteries aren’t something I’ve given a try yet, but Arsenic and Adobo definitely caught my attention. I’m participating in a group read near the end of the month, so I’ll definitely be picking this one up.
Don’t Look Behind You – Emily Kazmierski (May 10th)
I’ve read a few books by Emily Kazmierksi and was really excited when I heard about Don’t Look Behind You! I was lucky enough to receive and ARC and I’ll be reviewing near release date!! Thrillers are becoming something I’m really enjoying, so I have high hopes.
Baby & Solo – Lisabeth Posthuma (May 11th)
This historical fiction is set in a a pop-culture-rich 1990s, and as a 90’s baby that makes me very very happy. It’s also about friendship and mental health, I’m sure it will be great!
Lucky Girl – Jamie Pacton (May 11th)
Can you imagine winning a bit amount of money but not being old enough to cash it in? That’s definitely an interesting dilemma. I’ve been curious about this author and I’m on the tour for Lucky Girl. So keep an eye out for my review later in May.
While Justice Sleeps – Stacey Abrams (May 11th)
I love what Stacey Abrams does political-wise and I’m excited to read her adult political thriller. It’s been awhile since I read one of those and I feel like this is the way to get back into it!
Heartstopper vol.4 – Alice Oseman (May 11th)
One of my favorite graphic novel series ever! I’m super excited for this newest volume and I’m sure it will be another 5 star read like the first three.
The Soulmate Equation – Christina Lauren (May 18th)
I love the writing duo Christina Lauren! They write books that make me laugh out loud. The Soulmate Equation definitely has a different take on dating and I’m excited to dive in.
In the Ravenous Dark – A.M. Strickland (May 18th)
A bloodmage and an undead spirit team up to start a rebellion among the living and the dead. Do you need to know anything else? The bloodmage is pansexual. I for one can’t wait for this one!
Off the Record – Camryn Garrett (May 18th)
This is a testament to the #MeToo movement and is about all the ways women stand up for each other. How can we not support this?!
It Goes Like This – Miel Moreland (May 18th)
Four queer teens formed a very successful band in middle school, and have fallen apart since. I love reading about bands and friendships, sounds like this will be an amazing one with some possible hard-hitting scenes.
Shipped – Meredith Tate (May 18th)
Enemies to lovers, online friendships and a fandom? These are all things I love and to get them in one book sounds amazing.
Made in Korea – Sarah Suk (May 18th)
Two entrepreneurial Korean American teens who are rivals (and possible love interests). They both run Korean beauty businesses at their high school. Yes please!
Last Chance Books – Kelsey Rodkey (May 18th)
All I needed to do was see this cover and know I needed to read Last Chance Books. An older smaller bookstore has to compete against a chain bookstore when it comes into town. I’m sure we’ll also get some romance.
The Lights of Prague – Nicole Jarvis (May 18th)
Another historical fiction, and a fantasy one at that. Science and magic clash in gaslight-era Prague. For fans of V.E. Schwab, so you can count me in!
Don’t Breathe a Word – Jordyn Taylor (May 18th)
Dual timelines with a sixty-year old murder mystery. Set at a fancy boarding school, one of my favorite settings.
Tokyo Ever After – Emiko Jean (May 18th)
I can’t imagine what it’s like to find out you’re a princess. A lot of kids have dreamed of it. Also, I love this cover!
Playing the Palace – Paul Rudnick (May 25th)
As a big fan of Red, White and Royal Blue this book caught my attention immediately! The title and cover are perfect and I have high expectations for this romance.
The Hollow Inside – Brooke Lauren Davis (May 25th)
A YA mystery with a daughter-mother con artist duo. That’s something I’m always interested in! I already have some theories and I can’t wait to see if I’m right.
The Ivies – Alexa Donne (May 25th)
Another murder mystery at a boarding school. I swear this is my kryptonite, I’m so weak haha. Give me all of these!
Burn It All Down – Nicolas DiDomizio (May 25th)
This sounds great and I feel like it might be very different from anything I’ve read before and even from what I might expect. It’s about self-destructive behaviours, very interesting!
Hani and Ishu’s Guide to Fake Dating – Adiba Jaigirdar (May 25th)
I loved The Henna Wars, so I was really excited when the author announced this book. I love fake dating and I have a feeling this book is going to be great.
Sixteen Scandals – Sophie Jordan (May 25th)
This one my historical fiction haha. It’s for fans of My Lady Jane (who isn’t?!?!?!) and has a birthday adventure through London with a mysterious hero.
Talk Bookish to Me – Kate Bromley (May 25th)
If I’m honest I want this book for the title alone, haha. Our main character writes books and is a bookstagrammer. I don’t need to know more. I need this book!
Threadneedle – Cari Thomas (May 27th)
Magical London is my favorite setting so that’s a big plus. Sounds like a heroine will go quite the character development as well, so I’m excited!
So those are the books we’re excited about that are releasing in May! Will you be reading any of these? Or did we miss any books you think we need to know about? Let us know in the comments. We’d love to hear from you!
Okay, I want to read way too many of these and I don’t know where I’ll find the time! LOL
Lauren
I really want to read Meet Cute Diary, Last Chance Books, and Better Than the Movies! I’m kind of on a romcom binge so those are much needed!
