We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since January 2018 Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Animals from Books. I love animals in real life so reading about animals in books is always a plus. Unless they die….. I love them in all forms, including shapeshifters! So let’s take a look at some of my favorites.

1. Mr Kindly – Nevernight

It would be impossible to make this list without including Mr Kindly. One of my favorite characters in the book! I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. While real life cats aren’t my favorite animals, I do have a couple literary ones I love!

2. Fen – Nevermoor

Another magical cat! Fen is from the Nevermoor series and another great character. I loved  reading about her, and I can’t wait to read more great quotes from her in Hollowpox!

3&4. Sal & Theodore – The House in the Cerulean Sea

I loved all of the characters in The House in the Cerulean Sea and I figured these two would work for this list. Sal is a shapeshifter, he changes into a tiny pomeranian haha. Usually when he’s scared. Theodore is a rare wyvern and I loved his obsession with hoarding buttons. They are both great characters and I’m very excited about the possibility of a sequel.

5. All the dogs – Lovely and the Lost

I loved this book so much and the dogs were a big part of it. We got a lot of them and just loved reading about them so much. There were parts where we got to see the dogs work, but what I loved most was the bond between the humans and the dogs. I will tell you I bawled my eyes out at a certain scene….

6. Lysandra – Throne of Glass

So she’s not really a ‘regular’ shapeshifter but she does turn into a big animal on multiple occasions and that seems to be her preferred shape sometimes as well. I love Lysandra a lot, she really grew on me and I’m so happy to have her on this list.

7. Gifford – My Lady Jane

This book was so so so good and the shapeshifters in it were pretty hilarious actually. I loved that Gifford (or rather G) turned into a horse at the most inconvenient times. Horses are my favorites and this was just great.

8. Bryn – Raised by Wolves 

This is my absolute favorite werewolves book series! It’s so underrated and one of the reason’s I fell in love with Jennifer Lynn Barnes’ writing. Bryn is our main character and while she does some typical YA heroine things, she also makes some different choices and I just loved all of it.

9. Adam – Beechwood Harbor Magic Mystery

This isn’t a well known series but I love it a lot. These are cosy mysteries and magical ones at that. Adam is the shapeshifter roommate and I really enjoy his character. He is a lot of fun and has an appetite you won’t believe haha. I would highly recommend these books!

10. Jane – My Calamity Jane

Another Lady Janies book haha. I loved this one a lot and Jane was great. Telling you exactly what she is, is a spoiler (although easy to figure out haha), but I will say I loved her a lot.
