Looking Back at Our Bookhauls| March 2020

We’ve talked about our bookhaul from March this year, so that means it’s time to go back a year. March is our birthday month, so that can always be tricky. It’s time for looking back at our bookhauls from March 2020. Have we read any of the books we got? Keep on reading to find out!

Candyce

March 2020 was a good month for books by the look of it. I forgot that I collected so many. I’m almost afraid of looking to see what I’ve read and what I haven’t. There were 21 books in my March haul. Let’s see how many I’ve read.

The Library of the Unwritten – A.J. Hackwith
Unread

Okay, I’m actually shocked I haven’t read this one yet. I’ve heard nothing but amazing things and even own the sequel yet. I will read it this year!

Dance of Despair – Kara S. Weaver
Read

One of my best friends wrote this book and I loved it! Let’s say she’s not always nice to her characters, but the world and plot are really interesting. I really need to read the third book soon!

Havenfall – Sara Holland
Unread

Havenfall is definitely a book I’m interested in and isn’t that huge. I remember adding this one to my birthday wishlist after a friend enjoyed it. The sequel is now out, so yet again this is a book I need to read soon.

The Girl Who Could Move Sh*t With Her Mind – Jackson Ford
Unread/Currently Reading

I love the title of this book and I’m actually about 100 pages in. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far and I recently saw the third book is out, so I can continue reading when I’m done!

A Pinch of Magic & A Sprinkle of Sorcery – Michelle Harrison
Read/Unread

I read A Pinch of Magic in January and it was definitely interesting, but a lot darker than I was expecting. The way this one ended I’m curious to see what A Sprinkle of Sorcery has in store, so I’ll have to pick it up soon!

Everyday Angel – Victoria Schwab
Unread

This is a middle grade bundle of the three books in the Everyday Angle trilogy. I love this cover and hope to read it during middle gray May this year!

House of Earth and Blood – Sarah J. Maas
Read

Wow, this book was a big one, but really good! The world and characters sucked me in and I’m so curious to see how this story will continue. I may have to re-read it before the next book releases.

Chain of Gold – Cassandra Clare
Unread

Another book I’m shocked I haven’t read yet. I’ve been excited about this one since I knew it was releasing and even have the sequel that just came out. It is a bigger book, but I need to read this story.

The Merciful Crow – Margaret Owen
Unread/Currently Reading

Okay, I actually started this one and am almost 200 pages in. I love the fact that the cat is named Barf, haha. Isabelle and I are going to buddy read this one, so it should be one I finish soon.

Fence Vol. 1 – C.S. Pacat
Read

I loved Fence and have even read the vol. 2. I need to continue with this one soon. If I’m honest I don’t know much about fencing, but this story does explain a bit and I love the characters and artwork.

The Near Witch – V.E. Schwab
Unread

I forgot how pretty the edges are on this book. The Near Witch was Schwab’s first book and the story does sound really interesting. Schwab is one of my favorite authors, so I have high hopes.

The Kingdom of Back – Marie Lu
Unread

Even though the story sounds amazing I have to admit this was also a bit of a cover buy. I’ve enjoyed a few of Marie Lu’s books and hope to get to this one soon. The Kingdom of Back  has received many good reviews!

Deadly First Day – Emily Kazmierski
Read

Books that take place at boarding schools are favorites of mine and was so excited to read Deadly First Day. I loved the suspense and trying to figure out what was going on. I’ve already read the sequel and hope to read the third and final book soon!

Undercover Bromance – Lyssa Kay Adams
Unread

Why haven’t I read this one yet?!? I think I know why though. I loved The Bromance Book Club so much I’m kind of afraid my expectations will be too high. I’m sure I’ll still love it and really need to read this and the third book before the fourth one releases in a few months.

Only Mostly Devastated – Sophie Gonzales
Read

I was mad at myself for taking so long to read Only Mostly Devastated. This is a boy-meets-boy spin on Grease and it was so good. I loved the way Grease was put into this story and I almost finished this in one sitting. This book was such a pleasant surprise.

Wildcard – Marie Lu
Read

The twist was a bit easy to guess in Wildcard, but I still really enjoyed being back in this world. It’s such an interesting concept.

The Love Hypothesis – Laura Steven
Unread

I finally finished The Girl Called Shameless and wanted to finish that before reading this (even though they have nothing to do with each other). I love this author’s writing and I have a feeling The Love Hypothesis will be a perfect summer read.

Comics Will Break Your Heart – Faith Erin Hicks
Unread

I just recently learned that this is a kind of Romeo and Juliet retelling. Not something I was aware of. Comics Break Your Heart is another one I think will be a good summer read and need to make sure I read it soon.

Slay – Brittney Morris
Read

Wow, Slay was such a good book! I loved the whole concept of the game world created and the main character. Slay is definitely a book I’ll pick up again and I’m anxiously awaiting the release of this author’s next book.

Brave Chef Brianna – Sam Sykes
Read

Brave Chef Brianna was a really cute comic and I enjoyed reading it. I do wish it had more than just this one volume. There’s still so much to learn about this world and I feel that some things were a bit rushed.

Isabelle

March is usually a month with a lot of new books for me! Last year was not so different and I get 7 new books. I was super excited for all of them but to be honest I’m really scared to look into it. If I think back, I’m pretty sure I haven’t finished most of those books yet haha.

Dance of Despair – Kara S. Weaver
Unread

This is a sequel and I still haven’t read the first book yet. I’m so sad, because the author is actually a friend of Candyce and mine. Candyce did read the books and she absolutely loves them.

House of Earth and Blood – Sarah J. Maas
Unread/Currently Reading

I’m about halfway through this one! Although I have been for a while now haha. I loved what I read so far but I’m also a bit scared to carry on. My heart was shattered in the first half and I’m scared it might be again in the second ;).

The Priory of the Orange Tree – Samantha Shannon
Unread

I will read this one at some point but it’s so big haha. That definitely put me off on reading it for now, although I do hope to pick it up soonish. I think it will be a great read and right up my alley!

Arcanum Unbounded – Brandon Sanderson
Unread

I did read one of the stories in here, but I’m counting it as unread. This is a bindup of novella’s set in the Cosmereverse by Brandon Sanderson. It’s nice to have these ready for when I’m finally reading all the books in the Cosmereverse haha.

The Test – Sylvain Neuvel
Read

I loved this one! It was a short read but very impactful!! This novella was so good and I can’t wait to read more books by Sylvain Neuvel. I would highly recommend this one, it also nice to get a taste of the author’s work with a short book like this.

The Merciful Crow – Margaret Owen
Unread

I’ve been wanting to read this one since I bought it a year ago! Candyce and I picked this as our next buddyread so I should be reading this one pretty soon. It seems like a book I would love a lot and I’ve heard wonderful things about it.

This Is How You Lose the Time War – Amal El-Mohtar & Max Gladstone
Unread/Currently Reading

I’m currently reading this one and can’t believe I still haven’t finished it yet! What I read so far was amazing and I’m sure I will love the rest of the book. It’s not a big one so I should finish it fairly soon.
