Tag | Mid Year Freak Out Tag 2020 – II

A little while ago Candyce did the Mid Year Freak Out Tag. And of course I also want to do that tag again this year. It’s a fun way to look back at the first half of the year (at least in a bookish way haha). I’ve read 69 books so far so let’s take a look at some of my favorites!

Best Book You’ve Read So Far

I’ve read a lot of amazing books but a couple of my favorites have been The Test, You Should See Me In a Crown, Heartstopper 3 and Fence vol. 3. These books have my heart and I can’t wait to read more by these authors or the rest of the series.

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far

I recently finished My Calamity Jane and loved it! It was the perfect ‘end’ to the Lady Janies trilogy and I’m so glad we’re getting a ‘Mary’ trilogy next. Ruthless Gods was another great sequel. While I didn’t love it as much as the first book, I did really like it and I can’t wait for the next book. And of course I adored Come Tumbling Down, one of my favorite installments in the Wayward Children series.

New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, But Want To

I can’t believe I haven’t read Hunting November and Chain of Gold yet. And of course that I haven’t finished House of Earth and Blood yet. These are all very high on my TBR and I plan on reading them this year.

Most Anticipated Release For The Second Half Of The Year

I can not wait for The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. V.E. Schwab is one of my favorite writers and I’m very excited for her next book. There are a ton of good books coming out this year but I this has to be my most anticipated.

Biggest Disappointment

I had pretty high expectations for Of Curses and Kisses. It’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling and everyone seems to love Sandhy Manon. Unfortunately it fell a bit flat for me and I ended up giving this one 3 stars.

Biggest Surprise

The whole All For the Game trilogy was a big surprise. I was excited to read The Foxhole Court but the story was very different from what I was expecting. And wow, was a happy for it! I adored this series so much and finished all three books in no time at all.

Favorite New Author (Debut Or New To You)

I’ve read books from a couple new to me authors. Emma Mills had been on my list for awhile and I’m very happy I finally picked up one of her books. This year I’ve read more contemporary books than I usually do and I really enjoyed the Emma Mills one. I will definitely be reading more of her books.

Newest Fictional Crush

Andrew from the All for the Game series is my newest fictional crush <3. This tortured boy is morally grey and I absolutely loved him. I get why some people can’t stand him but he’s exactly my kind of fictional crush. He wiggled his way into my heart very quickly and I can’t believe I didn’t even know he existed until about a month ago.

Newest Favorite Character

Marcella from Vengeful is one hell of a character. She is an amazing ‘villain’, to me she wasn’t really a villain though. I will agree she’s morally grey but like I said before, all the best characters are. She was probably my favorite part of Vengeful <3.

Book That Made You Cry

While I’ve cried during a ton of tv shows, I can’t remember crying while reading this year. Okay, I may be lying, I’ve reread the whole Harry Potter series and that series never fails to make my tear up a bit ;).

Favorite Book To Film Adaptation You’ve Seen This Year

I have to agree with Candyce here, I loved Love, Victor. Once I started watching the show I couldn’t stop until I finished it haha. It was cute to see some of the characters from the movie/book and I adored all the new characters. There better will be a second season!

Favorite Review You’ve Written This Year

This is a hard one! I might be repeating myself a bit but I really enjoyed writing my review for the All For the Game series. These three books really surprised me and I also added some fan art I found. And that fan art is absolutely gorgeous!

Most Beautiful Book You’ve Bought Or Received This Year

I think my copy of House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas is the most beautiful book I added to my shelves this year. Unlike the previous years, I haven’t bought that many books this year haha.

What Book(s) Do You Need To Read By The End Of This Year

I don’t have a set TBR and could write down almost all of the books I own here. But I really want to read The Diviners, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder and a couple of Brandon Sanderson books.

There are definitely some answers where Candyce and I completely agree this year haha. And like her, I forgot how long this tag was haha. But I really enjoyed writing it! I would love to hear what your favorite books so far are. Let me know in the comments!
