Show Sunday | Defending Jacob

The book Defending Jacob has been on my wishlist forever and at this point I’m assuming I’m not going to read it anymore haha. However, I was excited to see the tv show was here and I decided to just dive in without reading the book (I know, it’s crazy haha). At the moment I’m writing this, the first 3 episodes are out. Let’s dive in!

The limited drama series is a gripping, character-driven thriller based on the 2012 New York Times best selling novel of the same name by William Landay. An assistant DA’s world is shattered when his beloved son gets charged with murder.

The tv show is based on the book Defending Jacob by William Landay. Apple TV developed the show and it will be a limited series with 8 episodes. I was very happy to see Chris Evans as a main character in this. Jaeden Martell plays the son and I saw him in Knives Out, he seems to be doing a great job.

I’m always a bit sad to see something is a limited series since I want my tv shows nice and long haha. However, I think this will work perfectly as a limited series and it is nice to complete something. It’s also nice to have the mystery solved in 8 episodes and to not have it drag on for ages.

So I just watched the trailer and I realized I didn’t watch it before starting the show haha. Trailers can give away so much sometimes and since we only have 8 episodes that seems like such a waste. So far I’ve watched the first three episodes and they’re somewhat slow I’d say. I really enjoyed them, but I can imagine someone tuning out. This show (and the book) is character-driven so don’t expect a lot of action.

All the (main) characters seem somewhat flawed and that makes them so much more real. The mystery is pretty compelling and I can’t wait to find out what happened. I really like these kinds of mysteries and I try to determine for myself if the person is actually guilty or not. For now I’m not sure! I think it could go either way haha.

The show is filmed with pretty dark lighting I guess. It all gives an ominous feeling and that fits the story very well. We also get some flashes to the future and I have no idea what happened. I mean, I do have some theories but I might be totally off base. It’s going to be an interesting ride to get to the bottom of this mystery!

Have you read the book? And do you plan on watching the show? Come talk to me in the comments! I’m excited to hear your opinions.
