Review| Nerdy by New Year – Jessica Bucher & M.F. Lorson

After reading Hot by Halloween, I was really curious about the next with this group of friends and their goals. We’re getting closer to the holidays, so Nerdy by New Year seems like the perfect title for this story. If you want to know what I thought of this book, keep on reading!

A big thanks to the authors for providing me with an ARC to read and review.

To get the guy, she’ll have to get down and nerdy!

Lucy and Simon used to be inseparable…until Lucy hopped on the popularity train by humiliating Simon in front of the whole school. Now, her senior year goal is to get him back by New Year’s Eve.

Step one: Join his club and find a cause.
Step two: Prove to him she’s more than a mean girl.
Step three: Earn his trust, and maybe his heart.

Simon is perfectly fine with never speaking to Lucy again, especially after she humiliated him sophomore year. But then she walks into his Key Club meeting with a mission, and suddenly old feelings come roaring back.

Lucy and Simon started the year as enemies, but they may just end it in each other’s arms.

Review

“When I was with him, I felt smart, which felt a hundred times better than feeling pretty. Pretty was a compliment I could wash off in the shower.”

Hot by Halloween was such a cute story, so I was very excited when I heard about Nerdy by New Year. It’s Lucy’s turn to set goals for herself and she knows what she wants. There are a few things she regrets and she really needs to make it right. Losing her best friend is still something she regrets and Lucy is determined to make it right.

Nerdy by New Year was a cute and fast read. These authors definitely made a point to show the side of events when popularity can play a big part. Lucy regrets some of the things she did. She’s decided to try and make it right this year. On top of that, Lucy wants to do something for a good cause.

I really liked Lucy. It’s clear she’s grown up and wanted to make everything right. My favorite part of her story is her volunteering at the bird sanctuary. That was really touching to read about. Animals need help at times and this seemed like a really good cause. Not something I read about a lot in books these days.

Simon has finally found his place after everything went down with Lucy and he’s not really sure if he can trust her again. He has a big heart though and can’t resist, because it seems like she’s really trying. Simon needs to find his own way in many things, because his family can’t provide everything he wants.

Nerdy by New Year really seems like a second chance story to me. Two people finding each other again after being close for years. I loved that Lucy realized what she did was wrong and really needed to make it right again. There wasn’t a lot of drama, but it’s clear that trust needs to be earned again and that what happened really did hurt. Lucy had to work for it and I was happy to see that.

Their trip to DC was fun to read about and I was kind of sad their story was over. I loved these two characters and am curious to see how the third book turns out. So far these two books have been a lot of fun! If you’re looking for a fast and fun read, I definitely recommend Nerdy by New Year. The characters are a lot of fun.

This was another fun read by these authors. I can’t wait to read the next book. What’s your favorite kind of book to read this time of year? Any nerdy suggestions you can tell me about? Let me know in the comments!
