S.M. Shade is an author I’ve come to lve after reading her Violent Circle (Scarlet Toys, Frat Hell, Clean Start, Zero F*cks) series. These books made me laugh out loud! Her newest release Rock Star, Interrupted is totally different than that, but I’ve been really curious. What did I think? Keep reading to find out!
A big thanks to the author for providing an ARC to read and review.
I found my stillness, my space between breaths, when I was a kid. The answer is simple. If it hurts, I pour music on it.
After years of hard work, it’s finally happening. Tragic has a number one album and we’ve gone from being discussed as one hit wonders to hearing words like meteoric mentioned alongside our name.
With two tours planned and another album on its way, we have a lot to look forward to. Playing in a different city every night, the shimmer and roar of the crowd, after parties and endless women.
My lifelong dream is in the palm of my hand until one phone call leaves everything hanging in the balance.
S.M. Shade takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride with the first book in the Tragic Duet. We meet Axton. He’s in a band and they’re just getting popular with their own record deal. His life gets turned upside down when he finds out he has a son. Axton isn’t planning on changing his life for a baby, so he hires a nanny. With that settled, he can go on with his rock star life can’t he?!?
Naomi needs the money and is happy to change her job. Even though she loved teaching, this seems more up her alley. She’s determined to be there for this baby and hopes that Axton will connect with him as well. I have to say that was my favorite part of the story. I loved the moments with the baby and seeing Axton getting close to him!
Axton has his own demons and it’s clear from the start something terrible happened. We don’t get to know everything, but only get little glimpses. I loved Axton. He’s a darker character, but as we get to know him I started loving him. The moments he starts opening up to his son are so precious and left a smile on my face.
This book is so much more than I expected, but I missed just a little bit of a connection with the characters at times. Even though we get some glimpses, at times I felt like I was missing information. I needed just a little more of the characters together and less of them on the road. I know it’s a duet, but this felt a bit rushed at times.
I did really enjoy the suspense near the end and that ending left my head spinning! How is this all going to work out?!? I need the second book now!! And on top of Naomi and Axton, I really did enjoy the band members and Axton’s sister. I wouldn’t mind seeing her also get a happily ever after!
I love how different rock star romances can be so different. After this ending, I am very curious how this story will continue! What’s your favorite rock star romance? Let me know in the comments!
