Last week Candyce gave you an update on her reading goals and I thought it would be fun to do the same. At the start of the year we both set some goals for 2019. For some of these goals I’m doing great, others not so much haha. Let’s take a look at my reading goals update!
I set myself 6 goals for my 2019 reading year. As always I have a Goodreads challenge and this year I set it at a 100 books again. This used to be my dream goal and in 2017 I finally made it! As you can see, this year won’t be a problem as I’m already at 81 books. I’m 30 books ahead of schedule and I have a feeling this will be my best reading year yet!
My next goal was to review every single book I read. Those reviews could be either a full blog post review, a mini review or just a small Goodreads review. However, I totally failed at this one. For now I have reviewed 42 books, so a little over half. If I’m being honest, I thought it would be less! So it’s not too bad.
My backlist of books is quite big, 236 at the start of the year. So naturally I made it one of my goals to read more backlist books. I planned on reading 4 every month, which means I should have read at least 24 by now. Last year I read only 18 so I have do better than that at the least. At this moment I have read 19 back list books. So I did do better than last year but I am slightly behind schedule unfortunately. Hopefully I can get back on track in the second half of the year.
Up next is my ‘book buying ban’. I had completely forgotten this goal!! How bad is that? I was supposed to only buy sequels to series I was caught up on and was only allowed to buy other books if I read those 4 backlist books. You can imagine I didn’t hold myself to that haha. I bought and got a total of 45 books this year already… And I read 21 of them. So my TBR has grown 5 books at the moment. I really hope to keep the buying in check for the next couple of months. Although I do have a couple of preorders…
Same as last year, my next goal is to finish 12 series. One each month sounded like a doable goal… But last year I only managed to finish 6. At the moment I have finished 5 series, so I’m only 1 behind. Will I be able to finish 7 more? Only time will tell 😉
And my last goal was to reread more books! I don’t really give myself the time to reread books usually. Mostly because of that insane TBR ;). But this year I wanted to relax a bit more and just enjoy books for a second, or third or twentieth time (I’m looking at my HP books for that number haha). In the first half of the year I have reread 7 books and I’m happy with that number. I hope to reread some more books in the second half of the year, but we’ll see how it goes!
So this was my 2019 reading goals update! Do you set reading goals? And how are you doing so far? Let me know in the comments!
I’m incredibly impressed with your organization. I set a goal on Goodreads, but I keep forgetting to update! I should really keep better track. 🙂 I’m going to use your list as a TO READ suggestion!
Yay, that makes me happy! I started using a spreadsheet last year and really enjoy it! I tried doing it in a journal but I just kept forgetting to update it and wanted it to look pretty. This is just super easy and I just tweaked someone else’s spreadsheet to my liking!
Book buying ban, what is this strange thing you are talking about. LOL
hahaha I have no clue either!!!
Ahh you finished A Series of Unfortunate Events! Congratulations 🙂 I still need to finish reading that series.
I really wanted to watch the rest of the tv show and just knew I wouldn’t continue the book series if I didn’t complete that one first haha
I love the idea of making spreadsheets for backlist books and series. I really need to do that since my ARC one is working out well. Great job on your goals, too.
Thank you! They’re a part of my challenges spreadsheet! The TBR and Beyond yearly challenge is in there as well 😀 I’m really happy with my spreadsheet but need to work on my ARC one haha
