This past month I’ve seen the Mid Year Freak Out everywhere and knew I wanted to do this one as well. For the past couple of years Iv’e always enjoyed seeing both bloggers and booktubers do this fun tag and I’m so happy I’m finally doing it myself haha. Let’s get into it!
When I’m typing this, I have read 82 books this year. My Goodreads challenge is to read 100 books so I’m pretty sure that won’t be a problem haha. The average rating so far is 4.1 and I’m quite happy with that. For now, let’s get to the questions.
Best book you’ve read so far in 2019
This one is a tough one to start with! I have read about 10 5 star reads and loved all of them. The one’s I have been raving about the most are Wicked Saints, Red White & Royal Blue, Nevermoor, Heartstopper, Fence & Fruits Basket.
Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2019
I think Wundersmith is my absolute favorite sequel I’ve read this year! After loving Nevermoor so much, I immediately read Wundersmith and that was an amazing read as well. King of Scars isn’t technically a sequel but since it’s like a sequel series I’m counting that one as a sequel as well. I loved King of Scars and I can’t wait to read the next book in this duology next year.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
The Devouring Gray, Bloodwitch, A Girl Called Shameless, The Girl King, and A Curse So Dark and Lonely are 2019 releases I already own and wish I had read yet haha. Hope to read all of these in the second half of 2019 because I’m pretty sure these will all be high rated books.
Most anticipated release for the second half of the year
How long have you got? Because there are a lot!! Ninth House, Fence vol. 3, Heartstopper vol. 2, Five Dark Fates, Don’t Say a Word, Gideon the Ninth, Wayword Son, the Beautiful, Call Down the Hawk and Deadly Little Scandals are probably my 10 most anticipated releases!
Biggest disappointment
Defy Me by Tahereh Mafi was definitely my biggest disappointment. While it was still a 3 star read but I was expecting so much more. I loved Restore Me last year and was expecting to love Defy Me as well. Unfortunately I didn’t like the way the story was told at all. Hopefully the finale last year will be a great one!
Biggest surprise
Probably The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I didn’t expect to really love this, even though everyone was raving about it last year. Since it was on my audiobook subscription service I decided to give it a try. And I ended up loving it as much as everyone else. I’m so happy I gave it a try.
Favorite new author (Debut or new to you)
Emily A. Duncan, Casey McQuiston and Jessica Townsend were probably my favorite new authors this year. I adored their books so much and am very much looking forward to whatever they write next. Although I’m mostly wanting Emily’s and Jessica’s sequels, and I would love to get them NOW haha.
Newest fictional crush
Honestly, I don’t think I really found a new fictional crush. And I’m really okay with that because I have way too many already haha.
Newest favorite character
I think this honor will go to Tohru from Fruits Basket. This is one of my favorite manga I’ve read up to date and I didn’t expect to love Tohru as much as I do. Most of the girls I’ve read in manga annoy me a little bit but not Tohru. She has that naivety most of them have, she’s caring like most of them, but somehow her optimism got me every time. Can’t wait to read more about her.
Book that made you cry
I cry pretty easily but I don’t think there is one book that stands out as one that made me cry. If I had to pick one, I’d go with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.
Favorite book to film adaptation that you’ve seen this year
I haven’t seen that many book to film adaptations this year yet! Last month I watched and loved Dumplin but I haven’t read the book so that may not count haha. I think I have to pick a tv show for this one though, I loved loved loved the Deadly Class adaptation and I can’t believe they cancelled the show. That news made me so sad!
Favorite review you’ve written this year
This is a hard question! I don’t necessarily have a favorite review haha. But if I have to pick one, I think I’ll go with my King of Scars review. You can find that one here.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought or received this year
And once again I have to go with King of Scars haha. I love that book so much and it’s gorgeous!!
What book(s) do you need to read by the end of the year
What books don’t I need to read by the end of the year? I just really want to read those most anticipated releases, the new releases I already own and just every single book on my tbr haha.
This was the Mid Year Freak Out Tag! Have you done this tag yet? And what books do you need to read by the end of the year? Let me know in the comments!
Great choices! Wicked Saints has been a standout for me so far this year. And I was surprised by how much I loved Red, White, & Royal Blue.
Thank you! Yes I was very surprised about RW&RB as well! Not my usual reading taste, but it was so wonderful <3
