Taylor Danae Colbert is an author I’ve read books from before and have loved them! Her books It Goes Without Saying and Bumps Along the Way were amazing!! Her newest release, Off the Record, is available everywhere now and you need to read it! A big thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC to read and review.
“Dax Thatcher?” I ask. “But isn’t he sorta. . .old?”
Ugh. Celebrities. I mean, I know I took a job as a reporter for the Celebrity and Pop Culture department of our magazine, but it was just supposed to be a stepping stone to the more real stuff.
Despite the fact that Dax Thatcher was the subject of many of my teen fantasies—and I may or may not have an entire playlist made up of his music—he’s still just another star.
Until I meet him. Until his golden eyes pierce through me that day on his Malibu deck. Until I find myself having dinner with him, going backstage with him, lying on the beach with him, telling him my deepest secrets.
And then I remember my assignment: a four-issue feature on Dax Thatcher. . .and his supermodel fiancée. Yep, he’s getting hitched.
I have to focus. I’m a serious journalist, and he is mere months from walking down the aisle with someone else. But that doesn’t stop me from wondering what those tattooed arms might feel like wrapped around me, or how soft the sheets on his California king bed are.
Yikes. This celebrity stuff might be a little more real than I thought.
Review
Taylor Danae Colbert always surprises her readers with her books. While most authors tend to stick with one genre, she experiments with her writing! That definitely pays off. So far she’s done a book with best friends to lovers, a book with lots of girl power and now one with rock stars. It seems like there’s nothing she can’t do!
Shay is a journalist who would love to step up to write about world news, but took a job working as a reporter for Celebrity and Pop Culture department of the magazine. She’s hoping this will be the stepping stone she needs to get further. Shay knows she’s good at what she does and is confident in her way of working. That changes a bit when she meets Dax.
Dax is a rock star who is slowly trying to build up his career again and is about to get married to a super model. He was like your typical rock star. Dax partied a lot and his drug use went a bit too far, but that’s in the past and he’s doing good. He really got a place in my heart early on in the book. I first thought he was going to be arrogant (their first interview wasn’t that great), but he’s just one big softy! Dax doesn’t take anything for granted and gives back in many ways! After some issues in his past, he’s still dealing with things in his own way.
My favorite part of Off the Record was the connection between Dax and Shay! The chemistry was there from the start, but didn’t feel fake. I loved how even though she was there to interview him, he trusted her with information that wasn’t really known to the public. On top of that he really wanted to get to know who she was. Shay isn’t your typical reporter either who will use anything to get on top. She saw Dax as more than just a celebrity and wouldn’t ever abuse the connection she had with him.
I had a big smile on my face while reading most of this book and that’s just because how sweet and genuine everything felt. Yes, he is engaged, but you will just have to read to see how that all plays out. Off the Record is filled with amazing characters who are very genuine, hot rock stars, humor, some amazing lyrics, romance and even a few steamy moments! On top of that, Off the Record doesn’t have your typical happily ever after. I loved how this book showcased that even with a happily ever after there can be some bumps along the way, but with people you love in your corner, anything is possible!
Off the Record definitely just scored a spot as one of my favorite reads of 2019! I really recommend checking out this author, because her books are amazing! I can’t wait to see what she will give us next.
Eh, I don’t like that he’s already in a relationship so I think this might be a pass for me. Glad you enjoyed it though.

I completely understand that! That’s a thing for me as well, but I can definitely tell you it’s not all as it seems.
