Review Blast| Lord Have Mercy – Lani Lynn Vale

After reading Hissy Fit, I knew I had to read Lord Have Mercy! I laughed out loud while reading the first book in this series, so I was hoping that Lord Have Mercy would be just as fun! Did it live up to my expectations? Keep reading to find out! A big thank you to the author and Wildfire Marketing Solutions for the ARC to read and review!   Poor judgment: knowing better yet doing it anyway. Flint Stone is a professional in every way. He’s a police officer with the K-9 unit and works at Gun Barrel High as the school resource officer. In his spare time, he’s working his heart out to create a successful gym from the ground up. He’s loved by every single person he ever encounters—student, faculty, and employees—Everyone but Camryn Elvis Presley. The only thing they have in common is their mothers’ poor excuses for names. Period. The end. So why is it every time she crosses his path that he has the urge to mess up her perfectly curled hair? Or unbutton a few of her prim and proper buttons? He knows he should stay away, yet like the high schoolers he’s around every day, he has no choice but to react first and think about the consequences later. Side note—bad decisions are made, leading to lapses in judgment that threaten both of their jobs. Yet when the time comes, neither one can seem to find the wherewithal to care. Why? Because being bad feels so good.

REVIEW

At first I was going to rate this book between 3,5 and 4 stars, but I had a hard time deciding. After talking with a friend who also had the ARC, I decided to take it down to 3 stars! I really enjoyed this story and was laughing out loud, but there were a few things that made less sense to me. Lord Have Mercy follows our characters Flint and Camryn. Flint is definitely a dream, a cop with a K-9 dog. He loves working with the kids at the high school he works at and he’s really good with them. Flint seems a bit arrogant, but there’s a lot more than meets the eye. Camryn is a teacher who loves what she does and works hard for her students. When she starts taking classes at the gym Flint owns, things get interesting. Camryn starts to notice Flint, but he has a girlfriend (at least that’s what she thinks), so they can’t act upon it. The chemistry between Flint and Camryn is a lot of fun and it was hilarious to read about them annoying each other. The attraction was there, but they just had to give in to it. Once they did, things definitely got steamy. There was something about the first couple of steamy scenes that just didn’t flow well. Maybe too much talking? I loved them together though. Once they got together that’s when things got a bit weird. Flint’s ex or hookup (whatever you want to call it) caused some drama in this story and it was weird that nothing was solved with that in this book. On top of that, the events later on felt like a whole new story was started (I don’t want to go into detail, because I don’t want to spoil). During that part, I enjoyed Flint and Camryn together, but it didn’t make much sense. All in all, I still did enjoy this book. I wished the book was just a bit longer so that all the storylines could be worked out and solved more. If you love books with fun characters, steamy moments, lots of humor, a cute dog and funny lines that start each chapter, definitely give this book a try!

I really do hope that the author writes a book about Flint’s sister. She was a lot of fun! Have you read Hissy Fit? What did you think?
