March is over, we shared our bookhauls and our wrap ups. So today it’s time to take a look at our bookhaul from March 2018! We bought and got quite some books, mostly because it was our birthday month. But did we read many of them? Did we read any?! Let’s take a look!
Candyce
The last few months I’ve been scared of looking back to write these posts. It’s been pretty intense seeing how many books I haven’t read yet, haha. This month last year wasn’t that bad though. Let’s take a look at what I got and what I have already read! In March 2018 I added 11 books to my collection.
The Exact Opposite of Okay – Laura Steven
Yes! I have definitely read this one. The people who have been following us are probably sick of hearing about this book. It was one of my favorite books in 2018 and I can’t tell you enough how important I think this book is!
Nevermoor – Jessica Townsend
Another book that I have already read. Nevermoor was one of the first middle grade books I had read in awhile and I wasn’t disappointed. It’s been compared to Harry Potter and in many ways that’s true, but not in a bad or cheesy way. I will be rereading this in May and then continuing with Wundersmith.
Dangerous Girls – Abigail Haas
Isabelle won’t be happy that I haven’t read this one yet, but I really hope to read it soon. I think this summer I’m going to try and do a lot more backlist reading. I am on track, but definitely need to read more. Dangerous Girls really sounds like a book I will love, so I’m excited.
It Only Happens in the Movies – Holly Bourne
I haven’t read this one yet, but I think it will be a perfect summer read. A few people I know have read this one and really enjoyed it. I will read it!
Romeo & What’s Her Name – Shani Petroff
This is an author that I’ve really enjoyed so far. I have read her other two books and they were five star reads for me. Romeo & What’s Her Name will definitely be a summer read as well.
Obsidio – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Obsidio is the last book in The Illumiae Files and I was really sad about that. I read this one not too long after its release and was pleasantly surprised. It’s a lot darker than the first two books, but that’s not a bad thing. I definitely plan on rereading this trilogy in the future!
Children of Blood and Bone – Tomi Adeyemi
I met the author a year ago, but haven’t read this one yet. The sequel has been delayed a bit, so I’m kind of happy I haven’t read it yet. It’s hard to keep track of everything the longer it is before I get to read the next book in a series.
Chaotic Good – Whitney Gardner
This was such a fun read! As a nerdy one, I love reading about characters who are interested in the same things. The main character in Chaotic Good ends up joining a group that plays D&D to get ideas for her costume. There is a twist to this whole story, but I really recommend it!
The Pros of Cons – Alison Cherry, Lindsay Ribar & Michelle Schusterman
I haven’t read The Pros of Cons, but any books that takes place at a con or anything like it is a book I need to read. Not really a fan of this cover, but they can’t all be good, haha.
People Like Us is so good!! This book actually made me want to read more YA thrillers. I wasn’t sure of who was behind everything until closer to the end and I still had my doubts. I really hope this author writes more books like this!
The Black Witch – Laurie Forest
Another book that I’ve actually read and loved!! I missed all the drama, but from what I’ve heard people were calling this book racist. That isn’t the case at all!! If you love fantasy and amazing worldbuilding, definitely pick up this book. I need to get to The Iron Flower soon!
Final Score:
Read: 6/11 – 55%
TBR: 5/11 – 45%
Isabelle
I had an insane bookhaul last year! It was my birthday, so that means books, but I also went to America on a holiday and had ordered both from Bookoutlet and from Barnes&Noble. So there were A LOT of new books coming my way! I’ll try to go through them as quickly as possible, as there are 39 books!
Ms. Marvel Vol. 1: No Normal – G. Willow Wilson
I read this one almost as soon as I got it! This graphic novel had been on my wishlist for a bit and I heard so many wonderful things about this series. I really enjoyed it and hope to continue the series soon.
Snotgirl Vol. 1: Green Hair, Don’t Care – Bryan Lee O’Malley
The premise and cover were super intriguing but when reading this turned out quite different than I was expecting haha. I also read vol 2 and now it’s waiting on the third volume to release!
Saga Vol. 2 – Brian K. Vaughan
This is such a wonderful and popular series. I read it pretty soon after I got it and have since read vol 3&4 as well. The rest of the series is on my wishlist and since there is a little hiatus going on I should be able to get caught up.
Bleach 1 – Tite Kubo
The first one I haven’t read yet. I don’t read a lot of manga but do really enjoy it. This is a very popular manga and anime series and I hope to soon start it.
I came across this one in the bookstore and immediately read it when I got home. This was such a great read and I hope to continue the series soon!
Phobos2 – Victor Dixen
This is the sequel to an unexpected fun scifi read. I met Victor at YalfestNL and got this sequel for my birthday last year. This is the Dutch translation but I think they’ve started to translate them to English as well! Oh, and I did read this one haha.
The Doll’s House & Liar, LiarĀ – M.J. Arlidge
I loved Eeny Meeny by this author and really want to continue the series. Apart from a novella I own books 2, 3 & 4 but I have yet to read them haha.
The Defiant – Lesley Livingston
This was a very recent buddy read! It was so much fun finally picking up this sequel. I also met Lesley and she was wonderful. The third book was recently released and I hope to read it soon!
The White Rose – Amy Ewing
Because of this post I looked at my books last month and decided to pick this one up. It was a pretty fast read and I do plan on picking up the next one. This isn’t the best series out there but it’s fun and want to know how it ends.
A Promise of Fire – Amanda Bouchet
I really want to read this one but I still haven’t picked it up. Candyce really liked this one so I hope to fangirl with her about it not too long from now.
The School for Good and Evil: Quests for Glory – Soman Chainani
The original trilogy int his series is so so so amazing but I have yet to pick this one up. Today I did see the sequel in a store so I think I will read this during Middle Grade May!
Shadow Run – Adrianne Strickland & Michael Miller
This is supposed to be a wonderful YA sci-fi but I haven’t read it yet unfortunately. Our friend Melissa absolutely loved this book and I do trust her opinion.
Follow Me Back – A.V. Geiger
I read this the moment I got home with it and didn’t stop until I finished it haha. This was one of my favorite reads last year!
All The Crooked Saints – Maggie Stiefvater
Maggie wrote one of my favorite series ever so I obviously had to get her next book. Unfortunately I still haven’t read it yet haha. It’s completely different from the Raven Cycle books and I’m not ready for this haha.
Candyce and I read this YA thriller last year and enjoyed it quite a lot. Apparently there is going to be a sequel in 2020 and I can’t wait to see what it’s about!
Nevermoor – Jessica Townsend
I’m ashamed to admit I still haven’t read Nevermoor. This March I got the sequel and I plan on reading both of them during Middle Grade May!
Obsidio – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
Of course I read this beast of a book! It was a super quick read and a great ending to a very unique series. These co-authors have a new book coming out this month and I hope to read it soon.
Renegades – Marissa Meyer
Last March we met Marissa and I really wanted to continue reading Renegades after that experience. This was such a fun read and the ending had me super excited for the sequel. Which I still haven’t bought yet haha.
Children of Blood and Bone – Tomi Adeyemi
I think this was one of the most talked about releases of 2018. It took me a while but I did read it! I really enjoyed this one and will definitely continue reading the series.
The Promised Neverland 1 – Kaiu Shirai
The title of this manga sounded super interesting and it turned out to be amazing. I really like this manga series, it’s so much darker than I was expecting!
My Hero Academia 1 – Kohei Horikoshi
I think this manga series is also an anime! After reading a couple more in this series I will have to take a look at that. But for now I’m enjoying this manga about superheroes.
Gangsta 2 – Kohske
I got the sequel to Gangsta as soon as possible haha. And I read it right away as well. This might be my favorite manga series (it does have to share that spot with the Promised Neverland I think).
The Belles – Dhonielle Clayton
I was supposed to read this one last month but I totally bailed on Candyce haha. Hopefully I will pick it up this month!
Reign the Earth – A.C. Gaughen
I’ve heard a lot of mixed reviews about this YA fantasy but I have yet to discover this world for myself. The premise sounds good and I do still hold out hope.
This Mortal Coil – Emily Suvada
This is another one with mixed reviews but I think I will really like it. Also, the cover is gorgeous! If I do end up liking it, the sequel is already out! Which is the case for all the books on this picture I think.
Unearthed – Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner
After reading the synopsis I knew I had to get this book for sure! I have yet to pick it up but I’m almost completely sure I will love this one. It has all the elements I enjoy in a scifi!
The Empress – SJ. Kincaid
The first book in this series was very enjoyable but to be honest I wished it was a standalone. That might be the reason I haven’t picked this one up yet.
Hunting Prince Dracula – Kerri Maniscalco
Finally one I did pick up! I wasn’t the biggest fan of the first book in the series but after seeing the premise for the sequels I wanted to give the series another try.
Ruined – Amy Tintera
This one has been on my wishlist for quite a while before I finally got it. Now I just have to pick it up and actually read it haha.
Wintersong – S. Jae-Jones
A couple of my friends also own this book and we plan on doing a buddy read very soon. This is another one with very mixed reviews so I’m excited to see in which camp I fall.
The Girl at Midnight – Melissa Grey
I don’t think this one has the best reviews either but I really like the cover, especially the colors they used. Hopefully the inside is as good as the outside!
The Reader – Traci Chee
This one looks so big! And I haven’t read it yet haha. I feel like a broken record but I do really want to read it soon.
A Shadow Bright and Burning – Jessica Cluess
I don’t even remember what this one is about anymore. It might be set in London and I adore that setting so much so I should pick it up soon.
The Girl From Everywhere – Heidi Heilig
I like time travel in books and I haven’t read nearly enough of those books. If I finally pick this up I hope it won’t be a let down!
Magonia & Aerie – Maria Dahvana Headley
If I’m completely honest, I’m not too sure if I will ever pick these up. They don’t interest me that much anymore and I just don’t gravitate towards them. But maybe they’ll surprise me!
The Queen of Blood – Sarah Beth Durst
I recently got another book by this author and I need to give her a shot soon. Hopefully I will enjoy her writing style!
These Shallow Graves – Jennifer Donnelly
When I ordered this book, I actually thought this was another one…. Oops. So I’m not too sure what this one is about. From what I saw, this might be an enjoyable read for me but I haven’t really felt the urge to pick it up yet.

So.many.books. I LOVE Saga – I actually talk about it a bit on my blog today. I read the first couple volumes of Ms. Marvel but I need to check out the rest. I really want to re-read Illuminae and Gemina before reading Obsidio, but I’m glad you enjoyed it!!
