For today’s tag I found a really fun one! While looking around on booktube I came across the Out of My Comfort Zone Book tag by Emmabooks. I love watching tag video’s and this was such a fun one. It’s will be very hard to answer these but let’s get into it!
CREATE A RULE: Choose one genre/category of books that you frequently talk about in tags and don’t use ANY books from that genre for answers.
I’m going to follow Emma’s lead on this one and exclude all YA books for this one! Most of the books I read are YA so most of my tag answers usually involve YA books. But not today! It will be hard but I’m ready haha.
1. A book that is an exception when it comes to genres or elements in books that you don’t typically like.
I read Black Iris by Leah Raeder over 3 years ago and it was probably the first NA book I enjoyed. NA is probably the age range I read the least, even though I consider myself a New Adult haha. I don’t like to read that much explicit sex in books and this one did have quite some. This was a 5 star read for me though so definitely an exception!
2. A book you enjoyed from a genre you previously held some stigma about.
A ‘genre’ I didn’t read until not too long ago is comic books. I never thought I would enjoy ‘just looking at pictures’ this much haha. But the good ones are só well developed and give you all the feels. One of the first ones I read was I Hate Fairyland and I loved that one. Another one I NEED to mention is Fence by CS Pacat, I read them very recently and I cannot wait until we get the third volume.
3. A book you didn’t know was actually out of your comfort zone until you started reading it.
I don’t think I can actually answer this one! Usually I have a pretty good idea of what a book is about before starting it and I think this only happens with YA books for me. The only one I can think of it First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones. I guess that was a bit of a paranormal romance and I was not expecting that. Turns out I really enjoyed this book!
4. Pick a friend or BookTuber that motivates you to pick up books you might not normally be interested in. What is one book out of your norm that they convinced you to give a try?
Basically all of the TBR and Beyond facebookgroup convinced me to pick up Crazy Rich Asians. I was NOT interested in this one, like at all haha. But everyone kept talking about it and I ended up giving it a go. This was another one I ended up liking a lot.
5. A book that is out of your comfort zone that you would like to read.
Full Measures by Rebecca Yarros has been on my TBR for quite a while. I do own this one (and the sequel) and I’ve heard so many good things! My tissues are reading since everyone tells me I will cry my eyeballs out haha. To be honest I’m still a little hesitant, because this one is definitely out of my comfort zone.
6. A book or genre so out of what you normally read that you’ll probably never give it a(nother) chance.
This is another really hard one! I don’t really ‘give up’ on a genre or even on a book haha. Adult fiction/romance is probably the genre I will pick up the least. I did just read (and love) The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which is probably part of that genre but I still think there’s little chance of me picking up more any time soon.
So these were the questions! They were a lot of fun to think about but it was also hard! If you want to do this tag as well, go ahead and tag me so I can see your answers. For now, let me know a book that’s out of your comfort zone in the comments!
Ooh! I love this tag!
It was a lot of fun to do!
