Show Sunday | New Amsterdam

As a big TV show fan, of course I have a preference for the type of shows I watch. Medical dramas are something that are high on the list of favorite shows. Since the beginning, I’ve been watching Grey’s Anatomy. That’s the longest running one that I’ve watched. I also love The Good Doctor, The Resident, Code Black, Chicago Med and I’m sure I’m forgetting a few.

The Fall TV season in 2018 had a great new medical show added, New Amsterdam. I’ve been hooked from the start!

Dr. Max Goodwin is brilliant, charming — and the new medical director at America’s oldest public hospital. While he’s set on tearing down the bureaucracy to provide exceptional care, the doctors and staff are not so sure. They’ve heard this before, and no one else has delivered on those promises. Not taking “no” for an answer, Max disrupts the status quo and proves he will stop at nothing to breathe new life into this understaffed, underfunded and underappreciated hospital — the only one in the world capable of treating Ebola patients, prisoners from Rikers Island and the president of the United States all under one roof — and return it to the glory that put it on the map. Inspired by Bellevue in New York City.

The actor who plays Dr. Max Goodwin is an actor I know from The Blacklist and it was fun seeing him in a new show. This character is totally different, but he plays the part really well. He’s a passionate doctor, who thinks that everyone deserves the best care they can get. It takes the doctors awhile to believe him, but he’s getting there.

His passion isn’t always a good thing though. It’s causing some issues with his marriage and even his health. He may just need a doctor himself. I love all the patients we see in this show and the team of doctors are amazing. And this show knows how to leave you wanting more. The cliffhanger for the midseason finale wasn’t a pleasant one!

I know medical dramas can pop up all over the place, but New Amsterdam is definitely unique! Has anyone watched this one yet? What did you think?
