Tag| Reading Habits Tag

It’s the beginning of 2019, so I thought it’d be fun to do a reading habits tag! I saw this tag over on Nose Stuck in a Book (go check out her blog, it’s great!). This tag was created by TheBookJazz and you can find her video here. Okay, now let’s talk about reading habits!

1. Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

I actually do. I always sit on the same spot on my couch, haha. I’m the happiest when it’s a bit cold and I can curl up with a blanket. Last year I bought a really big blanket I can wrap myself up in while reading! That’s definitely my happy place!

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?

For me it’s always a bookmark. I have so many: magnetic ones, big ones, small ones, fandom related bookmarks, etc. The only time I use a random piece of paper is if I buy the book on my way home and want to start reading right away. This doesn’t happen often though!

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter/ a certain amount of pages?

I’m not good at just stopping. That is something that really annoys me and is actually kind of hard to stop when on the train to work. There are times I have to stop in the middle of the chapter and it annoys me until I can read again until the end of a chapter!

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?

If I eat or drink while reading really depends on where I am. On the train I sometimes eat my lunch while reading. At home I don’t mind a cup of tea or little snack while curled up on the couch. I do read often enough when I don’t have anything.

5. Multitasking: Music or TV while reading?

There is always some background noise when I’m reading. If my boyfriend is upstairs gaming, I have the radio on downstairs. He watches TV while I read as well. Noise never really bugs me when I read. If a book is good enough, I zone out anyways, haha.

6. One book at a time or several at once?

I’m the type of person who reads several books at once. There is always a book I read on the train, one I read in the evening at home, one in bed, etc. At times I’ve had five books going at once. I guess I’m just lucky that I can read multiple books without confusing them!

7. Reading at home or everywhere?

Reading isn’t something I relate to one place. I can read anywhere. I mostly read at home and in the train. Then again, I’ve even read at a concert once while I was waiting for the band to start! As long as I have a book with me, anything is possible.

8. Reading out loud or silently in your head?

To be honest, I never read out loud! A lot of the times when I read I’m not alone, so I would disturb others around me. On top of that, I think I would feel really awkward reading out loud. Except if I find something funny or interesting and want to share it with someone.

9. Do you read ahead or even skip pages?

No, this is something I never do. The only time I ever look at the back of the book while reading is to see how many pages a book has. I know there are people who start a book by reading the last page. I need what I’m reading to stay a surprise, so I read from the start to the finish!

10. Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?

I don’t mind my books looking like they’ve been read, but I rather not break the spine. If it happens, okay, but it’s not something I would do on purpose.

11. Do you write in your books?

Normally I don’t, but Isabelle and I do have some plans. We’ve already started with what we have in mind, but have to get around to finishing it. I know this sounds really vague, but you’ll just have to keep an eye on the blog to find out what I mean!

12. When do you find yourself reading? Morning, afternoon, evening, whenever you get the chance or all the time?

When I’m not working, I mostly read in the evening. Sometimes in the morning while I eat breakfast. If I have to work, I read in the morning and afternoon as well during my commute. And there are times that I take all the chances I can get!

13. What is your best setting to read in?

My best setting to read in is on my couch, curled up with a blanket and pillows. If there’s some music in the background, I’m a very happy person.

14. What do you do first – Read or Watch?

If I know if something is based on a book, I will try and wait to watch until after I’ve read the book. Reading first is important to me, because seeing something on the screen can really influence my imagination. I like being able to picture a character and settings in my head before seeing what others thought.

15. What form do you prefer? Audiobook, E-book or physical book?

I will always prefer a physical books, but e-books are something I don’t mind either. E-readers these days aren’t hard on the eyes and at times it feels like I read faster when reading an e-book. I’ve never tried audiobooks, so I don’t know how I’d do with those!

16. Do you have a unique habit when you read?

A unique habit? I don’t think I do, I think I read like everyone else? Haha.

17. Do book series have to match?

I definitely prefer my series to match! In all honesty, it just looks better to me. Even though, there are quite a few series I now own that are different sizes. I think I rather have that than covers that don’t match though. Mid-series cover changes really bug me!

These are all the questions about my reading habits! Feel free to tag yourself, but if you do, let me know! I would love to see what reading habits other people have! To end this tag, I’m curious, what is your favorite reading setting?
