Bookhaul | December

The first bookhaul of 2019! It is insane how fast the year has gone by but here we are, January 1st of 2019. The December month is big for presents so we both acquired quite some new books! We already talked about some of these books, so we’ll try to be quick about those. And now, let’s take a look at our new books in our December bookhaul.

Candyce

December was a really good book month for me! I only put books on my wishlist and I participated in Sinterkerst and Secret Santa. On top of that Isabelle and I made boxes for each other and will be posting the unboxing later this week! Christmas morning I got gifts from my boyfriend and mother. I added 15 books to my collection after that! So that’s 19 books I received in December. I was a good girl and didn’t buy any for myself.

Okay, before writing this post I forgot that I needed pictures. And it just happens, that I rearranged my bookshelves a bit and they’re all on my shelves. At the moment, I really don’t feel like grabbing them all to take seperate pictures, haha. So these won’t be my prettiest pictures!

Archenemies – Marissa Meyer

I haven’t read Renegades yet, but I know Isabelle was a big fan of it. Renegades is another book on the top of my TBR this year, so now I can continue with the sequel.

City of Ghosts – Victoria Schwab

So far I’ve loved everything by this author that I’ve read. City of Ghosts is a middle grade book, but sounded so interesting. While typing this, I actually already finished reading this book! I enjoyed it so much. Review will be posted on the blog soon.

The Reckoning of Noah Shaw – Michelle Hodkin

This is the second book in The Shaw Confessions. Noah was my favorite character in the Mara Dyer trilogy, so I can’t wait to start reading this series. I have a buddy read planned this year, haha.

These Vicious Masks – Tarun Shanker & Kelly Zekas

A friend in the TBR & Beyond group is a fan of these books and she made me curious about them! I only asked for the first one to see if I like it. The cover is definitely gorgeous though! I love the mask.

The Storyteller – Traci Chee

This is the third and final book in the Sea of Ink and Gold trilogy. I received and read the first book two years ago and loved how unique this story is. There is a secret message hidden in the pages as well, that you collect along the way! Not to mention how gorgeous these books are!

The Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy – Mackenzi Lee

Okay, another book I have to wait to read until I read the first one. In this case, A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virture and this book are companion novels, but it still needs to be read first!

Queen of Air and Darkness – Cassandra Clare

At the beginning of December I was kind of upset that I put this one on my wishlist. I just finished Lord of Shadows and really wanted to continue reading this trilogy. So I ended up getting the e-book and starting with that. I finished it on Christmas day in my physical copy. The illustrations in the book are stunning!

What if it’s Us – Becky Albertalli & Adam Silvera

I love both of these authors! As a big fan of contemporary books this one sounds really good as well! I’ve heard some mixed reviews about this one, but I am really looking forward to reading What if it’s Us!

A Poison Dark and Drowning – Jessica Cluess

This is the sequel in the Kingdom on Fire trilogy. A few friends have loved these books. I got the first one for Christmas last year, so I can at least continue with the second book after that.

The Caged Queen – Kristen Ciccarelli

The Caged Queen is the companion novel to The Last Namsara. I haven’t finished that book yet, but from what I’ve read, I know it’s going to be good. And the covers to both of these books are stunning!

A Study in Charlotte, The Last of August & The Case for Jamie – Brittany Cavallaro

I read A Study in Charlotte awhile ago and really enjoyed it. For some reason I never got around to reading the second and now third book. I’m looking forward to them, so I want to reread the first one and then continue. The fourth book is coming out this year I believe, so I hope to be ready then!

Beneath the Citadel – Destiny Soria

A city ruled by ancient prophecies sounds really interesting! I will actually be reading this book at the end of this month. It’s going to be a group read in TBR & Beyond with a chat with the author! If you want to know more, look up the group on Facebook!

Skyward – Brandon Sanderson

My boyfriend read the Mistborn trilogy this year and was a big fan (also something I plan on reading next year). I know he’s a good writer, so when I read about Skyward (a new YA book), I knew I needed to get my hands on it.

Isabelle

I was expecting December to be a great bookhaul month and I was right haha. A quick count tells me that I have added 21 new books to my collection! This includes graphic novels, manga and regular novels. With all the Christmas celebrations I was gifted most of these, but I also bought a couple for myself haha. There are quite a lot, so let’s get into it!

Moonstruck vol. 1 Magic to Brew – Grace Ellis & Shae Beagle

This gorgeous graphic novel was on my wishlist, and when I was ordering some gifts I saw it was priced quite nicely. So obviously I simply had to get it haha. I already read it and enjoyed it, I especially enjoyed the beautiful art style.

The Surface Breaks – Louise O’Neill

This hardback is so beautiful, it’s insane! I got this with the same order as Moonstruck, and it was pretty cheap for a hardcover. The naked hardback is gorgeous as well. I have heard a lot of good things about this one and have read another book by the author before. That was a very interesting read haha, so I’m excited to see what I’ll think of this one.

Wildcard – Marie Lu

Wildcard was the last book in the same order, but this one wasn’t that cheap haha. I do own the Warcross HC with the colorful naked hardback and I loved that one a LOT, so I had to get this edition of Wildcard as well. This is the conclusion to this duology and I hope to read it soon.

The Grisha Trilogy – Leigh Bardugo

I have already read these books, but I didn’t own them yet. And when a friend of mine alerted me to the fact that they were on sale for Black Friday I knew I had to get them. I love this edition and I’m happy to add these to my collection. Candyce and I will be doing a (re)read of the series before the release of King of Scars.

Shadow and Bone
Siege and Storm
Ruin and Rising

Dead Until Dark – Charlaine Harris

I already talked about these two books in the Sintekerst unboxing. Dead Until Dark is the first book in the Sookie Stackhouse series, and that series has become the True Blood tv show. I saw the first episode and it looked wonderful. Can’t wait to read the books.

Give the Dark My Love – Beth Revis

I already started reading a little bit in this book. This is a 2018 release, but a pretty underrated one I think. I haven’t really heard anyone talk about it yet. From what I read so far, this seems like a really cool, dark YA fantasy.

The Night Circus – Erin Morgenstern

Woohoooo, I finally got it! This book has been on different wishlists for years now haha. I’m so excited to read it, it seems to be a modern classic now with all the love it gets from the bookish community. Hopefully, I’ll like it as much as everyone seems to do.

A Thousand Perfect Notes – C.G. Drews

Cait is one of my favorite bloggers and I’m so happy she got published. Obviously I wanted to support her and now I finally got her book. I’m not the biggest contemporary reader but I’ve heard only wonderful things about this books. Hopefully I’ll love it!

Red Sister – Markย Lawrence

I have heard nothing but wonderful things about this book! This seems like an amazing fantasy series, that I will no doubt love. The third book is coming out this year, so this is the perfect opportunity to jump on the bandwagon.

The Fifth Season – N.K. Jemisin

I have recently heard multiple people talk about this book and the premise sounds really cool. Slowly I have collected more and more adult fantasy novels and it seems about time to actually read them haha.

The Ancient Magus’ Bride 1 – Kore Yamazaki

I don’t really know what this one is about but heard good things about the manga and the anime. Before I can watch the anime, I obviously need to read the manga first ๐Ÿ˜‰

Space Boy 1 – Stephen McCranie

This one has been getting really good reviews and when I looked it up, it sounded like something I would enjoy. Since then I have forgotten what it’s about haha, but I’m sure it will involve space and a boy ๐Ÿ˜‰

The Backstagers Vol 1 – James Tynion IV

I already read and enjoyed this one! The art is great and the premise is super cool. I’m really excited to read the rest of this series as soon as they come out. The story is pretty original and I’m excited to find out what the author comes up with for these characters.

The Promised Neverland 3 – Kaiu Shirai

I really enjoyed the first two The Promised Neverland books and I’m excited to read this third one. There are a couple more of these published and I hope to get to all of them this year. Book 1 had quite the twist and I really enjoy these characters.

Fables Vol. 3 : Storybook Love – Bill Willingham

I haven’t read the second volume yet but I loved the first one and I’m excited to read the second and third one back to back. The premise of these graphic novels is so cool and I’ve about 20 more to read haha. And then there are quite some spin offs as well!

Reaper at the Gates – Sabaa Tahir

I had to wait a while, because the Dutch version of this book only recently released. And since I started this series in Dutch, I really want to continue it that way as well. I also love the cover, the Dutch publisher mashed both the old and the new covers together so it fits with my first books but it still has the representation Sabaa wanted.

Phobos 3 – Victor Dixen

This is a Dutch one as well, it’s translated from French and I think the first two books have been translated in English now as well. I didn’t think I would enjoy these books as much as I did and I’m excited to pick this third one up.

War Storm – Victoria Aveyard

I still have to read King’s Cage but I’m happy I can finish the whole series right away. After loving the first book so much, I was unfortunately very disappointed with Glass Sword. I do have high hopes for these last two books though!

The Cheerleaders – Kara Thomas

I read Little Monsters by Kara recently and thought that was really enjoyable. So I’m happy to own another one of her books, although I do wish they were the same height haha. Candyce also has this one, so we can do a buddyread for this one.

This is our December haul! We’re both very excited about what we got! Hopefully we can say we’ve read all of them at the end of next year, haha. What books do you buy/receive in December? We’d love to see what you got.
