Wishlist Wednesday | Anticipated Releases January

How is it already possible we’re looking at new releases for the first month of 2019?!? December didn’t have many new ones, but it seems January is making up for that big time! Let’s take a look at all of our anticipated Releases in January!

The Similars – Rebecca Hanover (January 1st)

Books set at boarding schools are almost always an automatic add to my TBR for some reason, haha. Add in some clones and other mysteries and it sounds like an interesting read to me!

Slayer – Kirsten White (January 8th)

As a big Buffy and the Vampire Slayer, this one was an automatic want to read when it was announced. There have been some positive reviews from ARC readers, so I’m really excited for this retelling!!

The Girl King – Mimi Yu (January 8th)

There have been so many raving reviews for this one already! We’re being promised rivaling sisters, betrayal, political intrigue, and shapeshifters. Sign me up!

In an Absent Dream – Seanan McGuire (January 8th)

I really love this series and have read the first 3 books in no time. We follow a character we know already in this one, and while we know how her story ends, I can’t wait to actually experience her story!

The Wicked King – Holly Black (January 8th)

We both haven’t read The Cruel Prince yet but it’s on our TBR’s. And since everyone is going crazy over the wait between tCP and The Wicked King, we’ll probably be glad we waited 😉

Undying – Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner (January 8th)

I have Unearthed patiently waiting on my shelves until I finally pick it up, but I’ll probably be happy that the sequel is out once I finally do! This space scavenger hunt kinda story sounds wonderful.

Even If I Fall – Abigail Johnson (January 8th)

As a big fan of contemporaries, this one sounds like something I know I’m going to love. It’s obviously going to be intense when your brother confesses to killing someone and you run into that person’s brother, it’s going to be awkward. I think this will be an emotional roller coaster, but something I really need to read.

To Dream Is To Die – Sarah Lampkin (January 8th)

I believe this one is being republished! It sounds like a cool paranormal story. We follow a college freshman (which I love) who dream walks whenever she’s asleep.

Famous in a Small Town – Emma Mills (January 15th)

I still haven’t read any of Emma Mills’ books but they all sound wonderful! This one has country stars, revenge plots and both fake and real kisses. Sounds like just my kind of contemporary YA novel!

The Gilded Wolves – Roshani Chokshi (January 15th)

Roshani will be coming to the TBR & Beyond Facebook group soon for a chat and this will be her newest release. So far I’ve read The Star-Touched Queen and the first Aru Shah book. Her writing is so beautiful, I just know I need this book. So far I’ve heard nothing but amazing things, so definitely a need to read for me.

The Birds, The Bees, And You and Me – Olivia Hinebaugh (January 22nd)

I (Candyce) actually have an ARC of this book for the blog tour in January. This book sounds like it’s going to be very interesting! It’s true that a lot of schools have a abstinence only sex-ed. The school I went to when I was younger as well. I think it’s good that a book deals with this subject.

Song of the Dead – Sarah Glenn Marsh (January 22nd)

Reign of the Fallen was such a good book and I need to know how the characters’  journey continues. There haven’t been a lot of books on my TBR that deal with necromancy and grief in the way Reign of the Fallen did! Lysander is my favorite character, so I need more!

Circle of Shadows – Evelyn Skye (January 22nd)

I’m drawn to Circle of Shadows by its cover alone! It’s absolutely stunning! It definitely sounds like a book with all the elements of a fantasy book that we’re used to, but I think it’s definitely going to have some unique twists. It already starts out differently though. Most fantasy books are at war with something or there is some issue, this kingdom hasn’t seen violence in quite some time!

The Cold is in Her Bones – Peternelle van Arsdale (January 22nd)

How cool does this title sound? And the story is a Medusa retelling, and that’s a retelling I haven’t heard of before! I love that we’re getting more and more different retellings and this demon-infested one sounds great!

Pretty in Punxsutawney – Laurie Boyle Crompton (January 22nd)

Another book I (Candyce) have an ARC for. When I was growing up my mother was a big fan of Pretty in Pink. I’ve seen it quite a few times with her and actually really enjoyed it. This is described as Pretty in Pink meets Groundhog Day, so I’m excited to see how they put this mix together.

The Vanishing Stair – Maureen Johnson (January 22nd)

I really enjoyed Truly Devious last year and can’t wait for the sequel. There are still so many questions left unanswered and I hope we’re getting some answers in this one. I haven’t looked to closely as too what this one is about, because I want to be surprised by this mystery.

Ship of Smoke and Steel – Django Wexler (January 22nd)

This sounds like the start of a new epic series! We have magic, we have a legendary ghost ship, and we have a cool girl boss. Sign me up!

King of Scars – Leigh Bardugo (January 29th)

We’re both fans of the whole Grishaverse! So it’s only obvious that we need the new spin-off series in this universe. We are going to be reading  the Grisha trilogy in January to get ready for this very anticipated book!

The Dead Queens Club – Hannah Capin (January 29th)

Mean Girls meets The Tudors sounds like a really interesting combination. I even saw someone mention that there’s a touch of Gossip Girl as well. I’m not sure what I’m in for, but I’m definitely going to give it a try!

The Lonely Dead – April Henry (January 29th)

This is a paranormal YA mystery and it sounds really cool. Our MC can see ghosts and she comes across the ghost of her ex best friend. When she becomes the prime suspect, they have to work together to find the real killer. Hope we get some unpredictable plottwists!

Death Prefers Blondes – Caleb Roehrig (January 29th)

A heist team with one rebel heiress and four kickboxing drag queens, Ocean’s 8 meets Hamlet, do we need to know more? This sounds wonderfully hilarious.

Spin – Giles Lamar (January 29th)

Another really cool sounding YA thriller. A new and upcoming DJ is murdered and the synopsis sounds so good. There are a few early reviews and they sound promising as well.

That’s Not What I Heard – Stephanie Kate Strohm (January 29th)

This sounds like such a fun read! Everyone is gossiping about the school’s it-couple and picking sides without the actual couple knowing what’s going on. I hope this is the funny and fast past read I’m expecting.

The Love and Lies of Rukhsana Ali – Sabina Khan (January 29th)

This is not the kind of story I normally read, but the synopsis just drew me in somehow. I really like that the diary of Rukhsana’s grandmother will play a part in the story.

Come Find Me – Megan Miranda (January 29th)

As a big fan of the show Frequency, this one sounds interesting. Another tale of connecting through radio waves. This year I’ve really come to enjoy thrillers as well, so that just makes it even better.

A Curse So Dark and Lonely – Brigid Kemmerer (January 29th)

There have already been a lot of Beauty and the Beast retellings, but a few people I know have read an ARC of this and said it was amazing. Just look at that cover as well! It’s stunning!! This is definitely a book I need to get my hands on.

Match Me if You Can – Tiana Smith (January 8th)

Earlier this year I read the Disastrous Dates series by Kayla Tirrell and really enjoyed the whole matchmaking idea in a book. So when I read about this book coming out, I needed to sign up for the blog tour. So this is another book on this list you can expect a review for in January!

Two Can Keep a Secret – Karen M. McManus (January 8th)

Even though the ending of One of Us is Lying disappointed me, I liked trying to figure it out while having quite a few unreliable narrators. Two Can Keep a Secret involves different characters, but sounds pretty interesting. I just hope the ending is a lot stronger than the other book by this author.

Only a Breath Apart – Katie McGarry (January 22nd)

Katie McGarry is actually an author I’ve wanted to read books from for quite some time! Like many other books and authors, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Only a Breath Apart sounds like it’s going to be an intense book.

January is starting out with a bang!! There are so many releases we are curious about. Hopefully we can stick to getting to our backlist books after seeing all of these new books coming our way! What book are you looking forward to the most?
