As massive Harry Potter fans we obviously need to participate in a Magical Readathon! Isabelle already participated in the O.W.L.s readathon earlier this year and that was so much fun. G from Book Roast has been hosting these Harry Potter themed Magical Readathons and for this Holiday season we’re getting the Christmas at Hogwarts edition <3 We can’t wait to participate and today we want to show our possible TBR’s.
G is an absolute genius and she puts so much time in these magical readathons. If you’re a Harry Potter fan you should absolutely check them out, I believe these will be held yearly now as everyone is loving it! And even if you aren’t a HP fan, these are still wonderful readathons worth checking out. Christmas at Hogwarts runs from the 17th till the 23rd.
G has made map for this edition, as shown below. It is a gorgeous map in the Marauders style. We love it! You get to pick your way across Christmas events set at Hogwarts and they all have challenges attached to them. Instead of picking prompts you want to fulfill, G is encouraging everyone to pick things you would actually want to do at Hogwarts so that’s what we’ll do.
The prompts/challenges are as follows:
Finish your coursework – finish your current read
Help Hagrid decorate the trees – book with a golden detail
Have a snowball fight with the Weasley twins – a book you think will be humorous
Visit 3 Broomsticks for muller pixie wine – a read that should only take you a day/evening
Exchange presents at your Common Room – read featuring/about friendship
Sneak into the kitchen to gift dobby odd socks – read that has an item of clothing on the cover
Attend a Yule Ball – book you’ve been preparing yourself for
Fly around snowy Hogwarts grounds – building on the cover
Put on your knitted sweater from Molly Weasley – read with present parents or a focus on family
Use your Invisibility Cloak to get to the Restricted Section of the Hogwarts Library – read a banned book
Bring a festive treat to Hedwig at the Owlery – animal on the cover/title/series name
Attend the Christmas Feast – watch a Harry Potter movie
We aren’t great at sticking to a set TBR but as of now, this is what we think our readathon will look like:
Candyce
Finish your coursework – I’m in the middle of a few books at the moment and I honestly don’t know how far I will be when this readathon starts. So I guess I will just have to wait and report back when we write about our wrap up!
Have a snowball fight with the Weasley twins – Even though I would love to decorate trees with Hagrid, the snowball fight sounds like it would be so much fun! I think I will read The Chase by Elle Kennedy. I recently finished the Off Campus series and her romances are known to have a lot of humor. I’m hoping The Chase starts off that way as well!
Visit 3 Broomsticks – For this I think I’m finally going to sit down and read one of my Archie comics. I bought them in May and still haven’t read them. I really should be ashamed!!
Exchange Presents at Your Common Room – I always enjoy reading books with strong friendships. I bought the first book in the School for Good and Evil and I know Isabelle is a big fan of that series. Middle grade books are also more known for their friendships.
Put on your knitted sweater from Molly Weasely – I’m really in the mood for a reread of Fangirl. It’s one of my favorite books and even though it focuses a lot about Cath being a Fangirl, the relationship with her twin sister is a big part of this book. As well as the relationship with her father.
Attend the Christmas Feast – This one definitely isn’t a problem. I actually love the first movie for around Christmas time. I love how the movie has the school decorated, etc. Even while typing this I really want to break out the movie to sit down and watch!
Isabelle
Finish your coursework – I’m not going to pretend I have any clue which book I’ll be reading on Monday as I’m writing this a bit in advance. But I do really like this prompt, every readathon should start with this one!
Have a snowball fight with the Weasley twins – How I wish this was a real possibility! I think I’ll go with Daughter of the Siren Queen for this one. Melissa has been bugging me to read it haha. And I really enjoyed the banter in the first book, so I’m assuming this one will be humorous.
Visit 3 Broomsticks – Just to make sure I will actually finish the story in an evening, I’ll go for a graphic novel. I have a couple on my TBR but I think I’ll go for Fables vol 2. The first volume was one of my favorite reads of the year and I really need to continue this series.
And I’m actually torn on which road to take now! There are so many wonderful things to do at Hogwarts but I think this is the route I’ll go:
Exchange Christmas presents at your common room – I love reading about friendships and I have to perfect book on my TBR. Candyce gifted me book 4 in the School for Good and Evil series and I still haven’t read it yet. These MG fantasy books feature a very well developed friendship and I miss reading about them.
Put on your knitted Molly Weasley sweater – This is actually on my wishlist haha. The graphic novel Afar has a focus on siblings so I’d say that works for this challenge. And adding a graphic novel to the list makes me think I might be able to finish all of them!
Attend the Christmas feast – Is there a Harry Potter movie more suited than the first one? So excited to watch these movies again. I might just watch all of them after this readathon haha.
Are you participating in the magical readathon: Christmas at Hogwarts? Let us know in the comments! We can’t wait to run across Hogwarts with you guys this holiday season <3
