I posted about the release of Beneath His Stars not too long ago an today I want to tell you what I thought of this book. This isn’t my first Amie Knight book and I was really looking forward to it. Beneath His Stars is different in some ways. The characters in this one are a bit younger, but it’s mostly to get us prepared for the second book in this duology.
I met Adam Nova under the twinkling lights of a nighttime sky.
He was hiding, but that gorgeous boy didn’t belong in the dark.
Nevertheless it was where he lived; a different world than mine.
I was Livingston Montgomery, Southern debutante.
With the world at my fingertips, I was well on my way to being another spoiled socialite.
But I didn’t want money.
I didn’t want social status.
I wanted him; tattoos, sarcastic smirk, bad boy reputation and all.
It didn’t matter that he was from the wrong side of the tracks.
It didn’t matter that my family forbade me from seeing him.
I just wanted to be Beneath His Stars.
Review
I am a big fan of Amie’s books, so I was very excited to get my hands on Beneath His Stars! Thanks to the author I was able to get an ARC to read and review.
In Beneath His Stars we meet Livingston (Liv), a 16 year old who lives on the island with her stepmother and stepbrother. Liv doesn’t feel like she fits in. It wasn’t until a few years ago that her father was discovered as an artist and that got him a lot of money. Unfortunately he passed away and she’s stuck with her stepmother.
Adam Nova, is a 19 year old who lives on the mainland and just happens to run into Liv when a friend of his wants to hit on her. He doesn’t know why but he feels protective. After losing his mother at a young age and his father suffering an injury making it impossible for him to work, he works and goes to school when he can.
Beneath His Stars feels different than Amie’s other books, because the characters are a bit younger. I loved this story though, even though I could smack the characters at times, haha. If only teenagers could think things through at times. Their connection was clear from the start. If only her stepmother would’ve thought that way. Even though Adam and Liv’s worlds didn’t seem the same, they worked.
It’s also clear there is a lot going on in the town they live in. As if things are done that shouldn’t be happening. I definitely don’t trust a few characters! That ending left me devastated!! I need the second part of this duology now!!
The only reason it didn’t get 5 stars from me was that I would’ve loved just a bit more depth with some of the characters. I know it’s a duology, so there’s still more to come, but I think even more hints at what was going to happen at the end would’ve given more of a buildup.
Once again Amie did create another set of characters I’ve grown to love! This author has a way with words that really makes you feel things! I think it’s amazing when an author can get you feel things for her characters by their way of writing! I can’t wait to see what turn this story will take!
I am curious to see where the next book takes us years later! In Her Space releases next week and I already have my ARC, so keep an eye on the blog for my review of the conclusion of The Stars Duet!
