Down the TBR Hole #14

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and I found it over at Howling Libraries. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 15 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 1115

Books #76 – #80

As Red as Blood – Salla Simukka

The synopsis sounds super interesting and I was debating what to do about this one. But it has been years, I haven’t heard anyone talk about this one and I personally totally forgot about it. When really thinking about it, how big is the chance I will ever read this?

Decision: Remove

Will Grayson, Will Grayson – John Green & David Leviathan

I own this book so I’ll keep it! It’s been years probably but I have started reading this one at some point and put it back down. If I’m being honest this is pretty high on the possibly unhaul list but until then it will stay on the list.

Decision: Keep

I’ll Give You the Sun – Jandy Nelson

Another one I own. A lot of people really love this one and I might give it a chance at some point but this kind of contemporary novel isn’t really my thing. Definitely a book I bought because of the ‘Buy 2 Get One Half Price’ sticker at Waterstones haha. Oh and because of the pretty sprayed edges!

Decision: Keep

Sation Eleven – Emily St. John Mandel

Definitely haven’t forgotten about this one! It’s been on multiple wishlists and at some point I will get this book and I will read it haha.

Decision: Keep

The Winner’s Curse – Marie Rutkoski

I have been interested in this one since I heard about it. It’s also been on a wishlist or two before. I hope I will get it in the near future and see if it can live up to my expectations.

Decision: Keep

Books #81 – #85

Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour – Morgan Matson

I love Morgan Matson’s contemporary novels. They definitely are my kind of contemporary and this one is on the list of book I want to get. I’m assuming this will be a cute and enjoyable read.

Decision: Keep

Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock – Matthew Quick

I had this one in my hands a couple of times but every time there was a reason why I didn’t buy it. At some point I hope to get this one. This seems like an emotional read and I’m very interested.

Decision: Keep

Love Letters to the Dead – Ava Dellaira

Another one I own! This sounds like a beautiful novel but I do need to be in the mood to read this, and I haven’t been in that mood yet. For now I’ll keep it.

Decision: Keep

Winger – Andrew Smith

This seems interesting but I just know I will never ever get this one and read it.

Decision: Remove

Everybody Sees the Ants – A.S. King

Another one that sounds like it will be a beautiful novel but I think we all know I will never pick this up.

Decision: Remove

Books #86 – #90

Gone, Gone, Gone – Hannah Moskowitz

I have to be stern with myself and be honest. So we all know where this is going, there is no way I’m picking this up.

Decision: Remove

The Outsiders – S.E. Hinton

I actually didn’t even know this was on my to-be-read, while its a classic I don’t have any interest in picking this up haha. So this was an easy decision.

Decision: Remove

The Fellowship of the Ring – J.R.R. Tolkien

Now this is a classic I DO want to read haha. I’m a but ashamed that I as an avid fantasy reader haven’t read this yet but it’s true. Four years ago I finally saw all the movies and I would love to read the books at some point.

Decision: Keep

The Hobbit – J.R.R. Tolkien

I actually already own this one and I’m really excited to pick it up. Possibly this winter! I’m starting to read some of the bigger books on my TBR since I already finished my Goodreads challenge. So this is a good one to dive into. It might not me very big but it is pretty daunting.

Decision: Keep

The Hidden University – Natalie Koch (a Dutch book)

This is another one I already own and I’m super interested in reading it. I hope to pick it up this winter as well!

Decision: Keep

Removal Rate: 33%

I haven’t removed that many today as there were a couple that I already own. To be honest, some of them I would’ve removed it didn’t own them already. I’m not that interested in them anymore but I might try and pick them up sometime soonish anyway. Are there any books on here I shouldn’t have removed? Let me know in the comments!
