I did something I had never done before.

I had a one-night stand.

Then in true me fashion, I left my phone at his house during my desperate venture to escape.

I tried hard to ignore the texts sent to my best friend’s phone…

Amethyst: Sup, these selfies are cute as shit, but your lips looked better wrapped around my…

I did NOT text him back.

I DID vow to never speak of him, or that night again…

I’m Amethyst Lily Tatum, and up until this point, I’d managed to maintain a fairly low-key life. I’m what you would call a socially unacceptable hot mess. Instead of partying, I’m skating, flipping ollie’s over guys who loved to underestimate me. Then I started college, met a wild girl who I would soon call my best-friend, had my first drunk one-night stand, left my phone at his house, and then, when I finally managed to meet my mom’s new boyfriend, I found out that my one-night stand, was now my new stepbrother.

Cover

I just love everything about this cover. The colors, the font, the image of that skateboard. It’s a perfect cover to me. It’s not the typical cover we see on romance books!

Plot

I loved the concept of this book. Imagine having a one night stand just to find out a few days later that the guy you slept with is your stepbrother. On top of that, the book started off with a flashback to when these characters were younger. They had met before and didn’t even realize that. Amethyst is a fun character. She loves skating and is really serious about school. She doesn’t go out much, but studies on Friday night. Amethyst realizes why she doesn’t go out after the one night stand, haha.

Maddox is an arrogant tough guy and doesn’t take no for an answer. All he knows is he doesn’t want to end up like his father. There was a lot of hurt in his past and Amethyst seems to make him feel a lot again. Maddox’s father would rather see him concentrate on his fighting, but Amethyst is just too important.

Like most romances, there is some drama. Things happen that make it hard for them to be together, but things bring them back together as well. Flip Trick was a book that started off really strong to me. A lot of sweet moments, funny characters and clear chemistry. I expected something to go wrong and it did, but once things looked bright again, I didn’t expect it to go wrong again so soon. To me there was just a little bit too much drama. Maybe a bit predictable in some areas. And the characters became a bit toxic for each other.

I still enjoyed this book though. There is a lot of humor, the characters are so much fun (especially Maddox’s brothers) and I liked the mixed up family dynamics. Another thing I found interesting in this book is how time goes by. Even though Flip Trick skips up to six months at times, we get flashbacks to important moments. The author thought about this really well! This definitely won’t be my last Amo Jones book!

Even though I didn’t like all the things about this book, I did enjoy reading Flip Trick. Have you ever read anything by Amo Jones?
