Down the TBR Hole #10

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and I found it over at Howling Libraries. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 15 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 1085 (YUP it does just keep on growing)

Books #46 – #50

The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender – Leslye Walton

This one has a pretty high rating and I still hear people talk about it even though it’s been out for years. Sounds pretty positive right? And still I’m not even remotely inclined to pick this one up, so I guess this is a goner.

Decision: Remove

The Book of Lost Things – John Connolly

I love that cover! The book has some decent reviews and friends that have read it seem to love it. I also like the synopsis although I was wondering if it would be something I’d like. After reading a couple of reviews I think it actually sounds like something I would highly enjoy. Keeping it for now!

Decision: Keep

Alienated – Melissa Landers

The synopsis of this book reminds me of the tv show Star-Crossed (that was possibly based on a book?). I did enjoy that tv show but not enough that I would want to read basically the same story.

Decision: Remove

Wonder – R.J. Palacio

I’m a tiny bit ashamed that I haven’t read this one yet! The trailer for the movie looked great and I would love to see the movie, obviously I need to read the book first. It sounds like such a heartfelt story and I just need to get on this one soon.

Decision: Keep

Every Day – David Leviathan

Another one where I liked the movie trailer! I’m not sure if I’m that interested in reading this story to be honest. It kinda goes against my principles to just watch the movie but at the same time I don’t think I’ll ever pick up this book.

Decision: Remove

Books #51 – #55

The Nine Lives of Chloe King – Liz Braswell

I loved this tv show and was so sad when it got canceled! The tvshow is the reason I picked this one up, I own the bind up of the trilogy and have read the first book. I didn’t like the first book as much as I was expecting or hoping but I do still own this book. So I guess I’ll keep it for now.

Decision: Keep

Ink – Amanda Sun

This is one book I think about every now and then and would still very much like to read it. I’m interested to see if its still enjoyable or if I just missed the boat for this one.

Decision: Keep

1Q84 – Haruki Murakami

This is pretty much a classic and at one point I will pick it up! I’m not even sure what’s it about anymore but I don’t care I just need to read it some day.

Decision: Keep

Ender’s Game – Orson Scott Card

Another classic story! Andddd on where I did end up watching the movie before reading the book, oops. The movie was enjoyable and did make me want to pick up the book. I think there has been some controversy surrounding the author lately and now I’m not sure how I feel about reading the book. Might keep it for now and ponder it a bit longer.

Decision: Keep

Kingdom of Ash – Sarah J. Maas

I was a little bit seeing this book on here already! Apparently I added the whole series in 2014 after reading the first book. As you all might know this book is easily my most anticipated book of the year so no question in my mind:

Decision: KEEP KEEP KEEP

Books #56 – #60

The Cure for Dreaming – Cat Winters

I have two Cat Winters books on this list and I only want to keep one. Both stories sound absolutely amazing but I want to try one first and see if I like Cat Winters writing style and story telling. So I decided to keep the one that spoke to me the most.

Decision: Remove

In the Shadow of Blackbirds – Cat Winters

Decision: Keep

Battle Royale – Koushun Takami

I believe this is basically the ‘original Hunger Games’. The Hunger Games is a personal favorite and the series that really got me hooked on YA books, so I can’t pass up this book. I’m definitely interested in this one and kinda want to pick it up immediately.

Decision: Keep

The Stolen – Celia Thompson (Liz Braswell)

This one is actually already on the list as it’s part of the bind up The Nine Lives of Chloe King. Seems very unnecessary to have this one of the list as well.

Decision: Remove

Black Dove White Raven – Elizabeth Wein

Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein is one of my favorite books and possibly my favorite WWII book. This book is also set in WWII but in a completely different part and setting in that war, a part of that war that I don’t know anything about. That makes it super interesting. I was planning of removing this one as I also have Rose Under Fire on my list so I figured I would read that first and then add another Wein book to the list. Now I’m kinda debating that choice haha.

Decision: Remove

Removal Rate: 40%

I ended up keeping quite a lot of books this time around! And that’s not so good seeing as my want-to-read shelf only seems to grow haha. I might need to do this more often of pick more books every time I do this. What would you guys like better? Let me know in the comments!
