Blog Tour| The Accidental Bad Girl – Maxine Kaplan

The Accidental Bad Girl was a book on my radar right before it was released. When I read the sypnosis, I was curious. Hooking up with your best friend’s boyfriend is not done, so I knew this book would be interesting and the character wasn’t going to have it easy. Thanks to the author, publisher and The Fantastic Flying Book Club for this opportunity to participate in the blog tour!

Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary

After getting caught hooking up with her best friend’s ex on the last day of junior year, Kendall starts senior year friendless and ostracized. She plans to keep her head down until she graduates. But after discovering her online identity has been hacked and she’s being framed for stealing from a dealer, Kendall is drawn into a tenuous partnership with the mastermind of a drug ring lurking in the shadows of her Brooklyn private school. If she wants to repair her tattered reputation and save her neck, she’ll have to decide who she really is—and own it. The longer she plays the role of “bad girl,” the more she becomes her new reputation. Friends and enemies, detectives and drug dealers—no one is who they appear to be. Least of all Kendall.

Cover The Accidental Bad Girl has a cute cover. I love the black background with the red and pink. It definitely makes me think the main character is supposed to be seen as sweet.

Plot This story definitely starts off as your typical high school story. Kendall gets caught at school when she was sleeping with her best friend’s boyfriend. This isn’t something her fellow classmates forget and the start of her senior year is anything but fun. Her friends aren’t friends anymore and everyone does their best not to stare. After a weird encounter with a stranger girl in the bathroom that leaves her with a bruised face and a trip to the hospital, life changes. Kendall notices her Facebook profile has been hacked and pictures of her are there she doesn’t recognize. Kendall ends up being blackmailed by a drug dealer and life just gets weird. This story kind of confused me because of that. I couldn’t really link the encounter and her doing everything without any real questions. Even when the new friends she made were clearly concerned. Things got even worse when Kendall starts to realize she actually enjoys being the bad girl, she is even good at it. The Accidental Bad Girl is an interesting story and a fast read. It takes awhile for the book to pick up, but I did need to know how things were going to end! A few important subjects were discussed, such as certain things being okay for guys, but not for girls. When it comes to sex, drugs or knowing what you want, guys have it easier than girls. The firls get punished or looked down on, when guys walk away without a second thought. I love that more books are approaching this subject. Unfortunately this world still works that way and it’s not fair. I love the new friends Kendall makes and they are even better friends in my eyes than the ones she started out with. The Accidental Bad Girl is a good summer read, especially if you like trying to solve the mystery like Kendall is trying to do.
