Just One of the Royals (The Chicago Falcons #2)
by Leah Rooper and Kate Rooper
Publication Date: June 2018
Publisher: Entangled Teen: Crush

Star hockey player Daniel Sacachelli wants only two things: 1) for the Falcons
to win next season, and 2) for his secret — the fact he’s actually the prince of Eldonia — to never make its way to Chicago. But if Daniel keeps avoiding his crown, their family will lose their kingdom forever.

Madison Myong can’t believe that her will-they-or-won’t-they best friend Daniel is
really a prince! He’s always seemed more rebel than royal. But now, he needs to clean up his image, fast. Posing as his long-time girlfriend, Madison accompanies him back to Eldonia, intending to give Daniel a makeover fit for a king.

Only, the more royal Daniel becomes, the more Madison misses her best friend. And if she does her job right, she’ll lose him forever…

Review

Cover This cover is so much fun! I love the ice skates and crown together. The cover is very simple, but fits the book so well.

Plot As a contemporary fan I love the friends to lovers trope as well as secret royalty. Come to find out this book was going to give me both! Madison and Daniel are both such fun characters who each have their own issues to deal with. They both are in love with each other, but don’t think the other feels the same. Madison and Daniel have a lot of fun moments because of this. Being best friends doesn’t mean you know all of each other’s secrets. Madison finds this out the hard way when she hears that Daniel is actually a prince. I loved the story behind this and the fact that it was a prince this time and not a princess. Also, the authors wrote this book from both POVs and this doesn’t happen often in YA. Not ones I have read anyways. I read this book in one sit and was sad that it was over. Daniel only has the summer to prove he is fit to be King and Madison will help him by pretending to be his girlfriend. We all know that this will somehow go wrong. Daniel has great friends and a family who wants to see him get where he needs to be. When I finished Just One of the Royals I had a smile on my face. It was very predictable at times, but sometimes that’s just what we need. All I know is I need to get my hands on the first book soon and hopefully the third one when it comes out. I was hoping Eva was going to get a book and at the end we find out she will! That little sneak peek wasn’t enough!

Characters Madison is trying her best to be what her parents want her to be. If it was up to them, she would become a doctor like they are. All Madison really wants though it to act and go to Julliard. The first time she presents this to her parents they tell her no. This really breaks her heart, because it’s all she dreams of. I guess this kind of makes her rebel a bit. Sneaking off with Daniel to Europe to help him be ready for the throne isn’t something her parents would approve of. She has gotten good at lying though. While pretending in Europe, she learns what her heart really wants and becomes brave. If she can be honest to Daniel, she can be honest to her parents. Maybe honesty is the best policy.

Daniel is just a normal guy that plays hockey and loves it. The fact that he’s a prince isn’t something he shares, because he was born out of wedlock. He isn’t exactly what his country is waiting for. Not wanting to let his sister down, he goes and tries to become what he needs to be. Daniel only really wants to play hockey, so this is a big sacrifice. While he is preparing, he comes to really love the country and its people and starts to accept his role. I would say Daniel isn’t the wild boy at the beginning of the story, but he turns into a person figuring out what he really wants and fighting for it. Even if that means he can’t have everything the way he wants.

I also have to mention the hockey team, their coach, Daniel’s mother and Madison’s best friends. They are all so fun and they show what friends should be. Friends that drop everything to go  help a friend in need. That is definitely a team I would want to be on.

This was such a cute and fast read. I really enjoyed having the male character be the one to be the secret royalty. It was refreshing. I definitely recommend Just One of the Royals! The next book comes out later this year and Daniel’s sister is the main character. THat is going to be really fun! What is your favorite royal book?
