Down the TBR Hole #7

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and I found it over at Howling Libraries. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 15 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 1058 (does this even work?!)

Books #31-35

Skulduggery Pleasant – Derek Landy

A skeleton detective? Sign me up! Still want to read this one haha.

Decision: Keep

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer – Michelle Hodkin

I finally bought this one about a year ago so yeah I still want to read this one haha. I have a feeling this will be a short Down the TBR Hole haha.

Decision: Keep

Under the Sky – Veronica Rossi

While I did read one of Veronica’s books, and met her last year, and heard good things about this book I don’t think I’ll pick this one up any time soon. Or maybe ever haha.

Decision: Remove

I am Pilgrim – Terry Hayes

This one has always interested me! And I do honestly think I’ll pick it up at some point. I heard a ton of goods things about it so I’ll keep this one.

Decision: Keep

The Inventor’s Secret – Andrea Cremer

I never heard anyone talk about this one and looking at it I don’t think I’ll ever pick it up.

Decision: Remove

Books #36-40

Snakeroot – Andrea Cremer

This novel is part of the nightshade series and that’s why I added it. I read the original nightshade trilogy years ago but I honestly never think about it so let’s assume I’m never picking this up.

Decision: Remove

Legacy Code – Autumn Kalquist

While the synopsis sounds pretty interesting I don’t ever hear anyone talk about this one. That might not be a good enough reason but it does have me thinking I’m not ever picking this one up.

Decision: Remove

Destruction – Sharon Bayliss

This synopsis has me going WTF?! I don’t know anyone who’s read this but I think I’l keep this one. It might be a hidden gem!

Decision: Keep

Haven – Kristi Cook

After reading the synopsis I already have a pretty good idea about where this story is going. And it’s not really a direction I’m interested in. So easy decision!

Decision: Remove

The Rise and Fall of Great Powers – Tom Rachman

I was about to remove this one from my shelves but something about the synopsis has me interested. Maybe it’s that line ‘It all begins in a dusty bookshop’.

Decision: Keep

Books #41-45

Birdman – Mo Hayder

I actually started reading this one quite a while ago but couldn’t get in to it. After I put it down I did plan on picking it back up at some point but maybe we just have to conclude it’s never going to happen.

Decision: Remove

Cop Town – Karin Slaughter

I actually own this book and love all of Karin Slaughter’s other books so this is another super easy one!

Decision: Keep

Sins & Needles – Karina Halle

This synopsis is super different than what I was expecting based on the cover. It’s actually about con artist and sounds pretty dark. I think I’m not getting rid of this one yet!

Decision: Keep

The Gathering – Kelley Armstrong

I honestly didn’t even look at the synopsis for this one. But I kept a Kelly Armstrong book in my last Down the TBR Hole and decided I wanted to read that one first before deciding if I even want to read more books written by her.

Decision: Remove

Cruel Beauty – Rosamund Hodge

I actually own this one as well! It’s also a Beauty & the Beast retelling and that’s one of my favorite things in the world. A couple of my friends have read this book and really liked it. So naturally I’m keeping this one.

Decision: Keep

Removal rate: 46,67%

I kept more books this time than I expected! And somehow my want-to-read shelf on Goodreads just keeps growing and growing haha. I hope to remove some more books next time!
