TTT #27| Books I Disliked/Hated But Am Really Glad I Read

We have been having fun with Top Ten Tuesday, so we decided we will do one every week. This bookish meme was hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, and has been going since June 2010! Since last January Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.

This week’s topic is Books I Disliked/Hated But Am Really Glad I Read and this is honestly IMPOSSIBLE for me haha. I don’t read that many books that I don’t like and I think there are hardly any that I’m still glad I read. Soooo what will we be doing today? I wanted to just start the list and say how far we would come but I only found 2 books…. Not so great… I decided to completely turn this around and go for 10 books I think I will rate 5 stars. So this is more like the challenge of 5 star predictions. Lets take a look at what I think those books will be.

1.The School for Good and Evil: Quests for Glory – Soman Chainani

I loved the first trilogy in this world and I can’t wait to start this next book and new storyline. This middle grade series is just so so cute and I absolutely love the characters in it. While the books are pretty big I fly through them and I’m a tiny bit ashamed that I still haven’t read it.

2.Spellslinger – Sebastien de Castell

This is another really highly anticipated book for me. I have it since January and I hope to read this one soon! From what I’ve heard about this one, this is a book I will really enjoy. I love magic and some sort of magical training.

3.Strange the Dreamer – Laini Taylor

Look at that pretty cover! I never thought I would enjoy Daughter of Smoke and Bone so much, but I did and I also liked the second book in this series. There are quite some positive reviews out there for this book as well as some negative ones. I think after liking her other books this will be another 5 star read. The synopsis sounds like an interesting read!

4.Labyrinth Lost – Zoraida Cordova

I have been wanting to get this book for soooo long, I put it on every single wishlist. But after being accepted to read the second book in this series it was finally time to get it. For now I got the ebook but I think with time I’ll want physical copies for both.

5.To Kill a Kingdom – Alexandra Christo

Every one has been talking about this one and I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone not liking it. It’s a retelling and that’s something I really love. I don’t think I’ve read a Little Mermaid retelling and lately I have been enjoying reads that have to do with oceans and water mythology.

6.Warbreaker – Brandon Sanderson

I have only read Brandon Sandersons YA serie and I’m excited to try his adult works. Personally I wouldn’t have started with this book but it’s what most people recommend when starting with Brandon. I’m particularly interested in the magic systems in his book as they are supposed to be so unique.

7.A Promise of Fire – Amanda Bouchet

This was a gift book in my Christmas (I think! Or bday is also possible) box I got from Candyce. This is a book she already read and really enjoyed. I think the third and final book was just released so this is the perfect time to start.

8.Mortal Heart – Robin LaFevers

It’s been so long since I read the first two book! However I just know I will love this one. There is a fourth book coming in this series, or at least this world and I hope this one will jog my memory about the first two. I have to admit I don’t remember that much apart from loving them.

9.The Diviners – Libba Bray

This has been on my list for quite a while! (yes yes I know, not the first one…) I read one other Libba Bray book, Beauty Queens, and I really liked that one. Hopefully that means I enjoy her writing style. New York in the ’20s sounds pretty intriguing and pair that with magic and I’m sold.

10.Nevermoor – Jessica Townsend

Candyce already read this one and she absolutely loved it! It’s another middle grade read and I tend to really enjoy those. The story sounds amazing and everyone seems to love it. I can’t imagine not giving this book 5 stars!

Could you stick to today’s theme? Or did you decide on something else? And have you read any of these books? Let me hear your thoughts in the comments down below!

  1. Whoah… I went to the list without reading your intro paragraphs and I was like oMG, all the books in your list are either hyped or really great books as I already read some of them. And I was like she really didn’t like them all?
And so I had to read your intro and I literally sighed knowing you changed the topic and Im glad. hahaha… Sorry for not reading your intro first I was excited to see the list. 🙂 🙂

    1. hahahaha, this is so funny! That would be pretty insane if I hated all of these, let’s hope that won’t happen 😉

    1. Thank you, me neither! I love talking about books that excite me, that I loved, or am excited to read. But talking about books I didn’t enjoy, not really my thing 🙂

    1. Thank you! I don’t think I’ve heard of anyone NOT liking To Kill a Kingdom, really hope to read it soon 😀

    1. Oh no, sorry to hear that! Hope I’ll like it better but might need to lower my expectations a bit 😉
