Down The TBR Hole #5

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and I found it over at Howling Libraries. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 15 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 1044 (I’m not sure why it keeps going up…)

Books #31-35

Her Mad Hatter – Marie Hall

I do think of this one every know and then, I think I have the ebook on my ereader as well. If I’m right, this is an adult paranormal romance and that’s actually not something I’m interested in. We can try to pretend like I will read this at some point but if we’re being honest….

Decision: Remove

The Knife of Never Letting Go – Patrick Ness

I think this is a really popular YA dystopian novel and I’m not sure if I’m still that interested in that genre. Almost all of my Goodreads friends either want to read it or read it and rated it pretty high. I think I’ll just remove it for now and put it back on if I find a cheap copy.

Decision: Remove

Stitch – Samantha Durante

This is a combination of paranormal romance and dystopian. And while the story has some interesting elements I just know this is not my kinda story. I just know I won’t enjoy this book so, easy choice!

Decision: Remove

Masque of the Red Death – Bethany Griffin

After reading the synopsis again I just know this will have a love triangle… And it doesn’t sound like the good one. None of my friends have read this so I think I might just pass on this one as well….

Decision: Remove

Girl Under Glass – Monica Enderle Pierce

I don’t recognize this book at all! When reading the synopsis I actually was interested again but I also know this isn’t the kind of thing I usually pick up. And I think this was supposed to be the start of a series but while it did get 2 novella’s it didn’t get a sequel…

Decision: Remove

Books #36-40

Branded – Abi Ketner

Even though I’m not that interested in dystopian novels anymore I still think about this one every now and then. This is one I have been wanting to read forever and I still think I might pick this up on some point. The synopsis is just super interesting.

Decision: Keep

Attachmetns – Rainbow Rowell

I love love love Fangirl and Carry On but dnf’ed Eleanor and Park. This one has always intrigued me but I’m not sure if it was enough to keep me interested. I also think that this is one I will probably pick up at some point after finding it in a thrift store or something like that.

Decision: Remove

Taboo – Casey Hill

This is another easy one, I actually own this book and really want to read this thriller. So I will be keeping this one!

Decision: Keep

Don’t Turn Around – Michelle Gagnon

I’m really torn about this one! On the one hand it sounds pretty interesting, on the other hand I added it to my Goodreads 4 years ago and still haven’t bought it. There are quite some positive reviews from my friends but I saw some things in there I don’t think I will enjoy.

Decision: Remove

Prophecy of the Sisters – Michelle Zink

I actually thought I would remove this one as I do remember it but haven’t felt the urge to pick it up. However, reading the synopsis again I think I could possibly really enjoy this one. The whole trilogy is published and I think I will give this one a chance!

Decision: Keep

Books #41-45

Temptation of Angels – Michelle Zink

Another book my Michelle Zink. I think this one is some kind of paranormal romance and that’s just not my thing. Maybe after really enjoying the Prophecy of Sisters I will come back to this.

Decision: Remove

Sable – Marie Hall

And another Marie Hall as well. This story sounds so similar to a couple of other stories (Shatter Me for example) and I just don’t think I want to read that story again.

Decision: Remove

Rose Under Fire – Elizabeth Wein

I absolutely adored Codename Verity, I was sobbing so hard during that book! But I haven’t been able to pick this one up yet because I just now it will destroy me once again. Even if it’s only half as good I will still be super happy.

Decision: Keep

Double Crossed: a Spies and Thieves story – Ally Carter

Because I know which book is next, I think I’ll remove this one. If I’m really liking that series than I’ll want to read this at some point. And by then I can just add it to my GR again.

Decision: Remove

Heist Society – Ally Carter

I will definitely be keeping this one, Ally Carter’s books are such a guilty pleasure. These are kinda similar to the Gallagher Girls series I think and I really enjoyed that series.

Decision: Keep

Removal Rate: 66,66%

That was another pretty successful TBR clean up I would say. I just love these articles, they’re so much fun to read. I also hoped my want-to-read shelf over at Goodreads would be smaller but somehow it has only grown taller… I guess we’ll have another chance soon 😉 How big is your want-to-read shelf on Goodreads, let me know in the comments!
