Down the TBR Hole #3

Down the TBR Hole was originally created over at Lost in a Story, and I found it over at Howling Libraries. It looked like a fun and productive way to finally make a dent in that Goodreads TBR. I went through my want-to-read shelf a little while ago but I think I was still to kind on a lot of books. Let’s see what I’ll make of it this time around. I decided to go with 15 books at a time so lets get started!

It works like this:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 or 15 or 20, if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
  • Keep track of where you left off so you can pick up there next week!

Current “to-read” shelf: 1.023 (yes it has gone up, oops…)

Books #16-20

Wither (The Chemical Garden #1) – Lauren DeStefano

After reading The Hunger Games all I wanted to do is read ALLLL the books that were on list for lovers of THG. Looking at this now, I’m not that interested and I know I’ll probably be disappointed. I want to read Lauren DeStefano’s new book and if I like that one I might come back to this one day (but probably not haha)

Decision: Remove

Godess Interrupted (Godess Test #2) – Aimee Carter

I read the first book and did enjoy it at the time. Looking back at it now, I don’t think I’ll enjoy the rest of the series and I know that there are similar but better books out there. As with the book above, do want to read some of Aimee Carter’s newer works and will go from there.

Decision: Remove

Not A Drop to Drink (Not A Drop to Drink #1) – Mindy McGinnis

And another one from a list for dystopian lovers or something similar. It’s been on my to read list for 4 years and I still never bought it. That probably says enough.

Decision: Remove

Rush (The Game #1) – Eve Silver

I had to look up what this one was about! While it does sound interesting enough, at the same time I just couldn’t care less. I’m absolutely judging this before I even read a letter but I don’t think I’ll enjoy this one.

Decision: Remove

Reboot (Reboot #1) – Amy Tintera

This is came back on my radar when it got translated in Dutch a while ago. I have every intention of still reading this. As you saw Friday I just got another Amy Tintera book and as long as I don’t hate that this one will stay on the list haha.

Decision: Keep

Books #21-25

The Rules (Project Paper Doll #1) – Stacey Kade

Some things in the premise do sounds interesting but some other things coupled with the cover have me suspecting that this one will be pretty heavy on the romance.. And that’s just not what I would look for when picking up a book like this.

Decision: Remove

Of Breakable Things – Lynden A. Rolland

Now this is a hard one! This book as been on my radar for years and somehow that title has always stayed with me. Reading the synopsis has me intrigued once again but I also noticed that the last book never got published. I don’t think I want to read a book that I know won’t get a satisfying ending.

Decision: Remove

Dead Witch Walking (The Hallows #1) – Kim Harrison

Yes! I for sure still want to read this. And one day I will haha.

Decision: Keep

The Name of the Star (Shades of London #1) – Maureen Johnson

Another difficult decision! I like the Jack the Ripper premise and I liked Maureen’s latest book but I’m just not sure about this one. I just saw that a fourth book will supposedly be released this year. I’m going to hold on to it for now!

Decision: Keep

Imaginary Girls – Nova Ren Suma

I’m starting to regret doing these blog posts hahaha. Why is this even so hard? I can’t remember adding this book and while this could turn out very disappointing it might also be a great mystery I could highly enjoy. I’ll keep it for now.

Decision: Keep

Books #26-30

Blood Magic (The Blood Journals #1) – Tessa Gratton

Don’t remember what this is about, but do remember being very interested in it. This also lead me to The Queens of Innis Lear I think (that I still need to read) so I will keep it without even looking at the synopsis haha.

Decision: Keep

The Killing Jar – Jennifer Bosworth

Just read the synopsis again and I don’t think I’m interested in this any longer.

Decision: Remove

Miss Mabel’s School for Girls (The Network Series #1) – Katie Cross

The title already implies one of my favorite tropes; boarding schools. Turns out it’s a private school for witches, even better! I hope to one day read this series.

Decision: Keep

After Forever Ends – Melodie Ramone

I have absolutely no clue why I added this ever. This sounds nothing like a book I would enjoy haha. So a big NO from me.

Decision: Remove

Bitten (Women of the Otherworld #1) – Kelley Armstrong

I absolutely loved this tv show and since the start of I, I have been wanting to read these books. I think I own most of them as ebooks and I am sure that I will read them at some point!

Decision: Keep

Removal Rate: 53,33%

Not bad I guess! I was expecting it to be somewhat higher when I didn’t recognize so many of these books. But after looking at the synopsis and some reviews I guess I’m still interested in almost half of these haha. Any books I should’ve kept or removed in your opinion? Let me know in the comments!
