Fangirl Friday| My New Love for Anime

My boyfriend has been a fan of anime for years and tried for awhile to get me to watch it with him. I didn’t for a long time, but he finally found a way to get me to join him. He finds romantic comedies or other things he knows I like, haha. Today I’m going to tell you about an amazing anime movie that we watched not too long ago.

This movie came out in 2016 and is described as a romantic, fantasy drama. Mitsuha is the daughter of the mayor of a small mountain town. She’s a straightforward high school girl who lives with her sister and her grandmother and has no qualms about letting it be known that she’s uninterested in Shinto rituals or helping her father’s electoral campaign. Instead she dreams of leaving the boring town and trying her luck in Tokyo. Taki is a high school boy in Tokyo who works part-time in an Italian restaurant and aspires to become an architect or an artist. Every night he has a strange dream where he becomes a high school girl in a small mountain town. The storyline was taken from IMdb.com.

This was such a beautiful story and it had a major plot twist that I was not expecting. I laughed out loud and shed a few tears while watching this movie. I remember we were both really tired while watching this movie, but did our best to stay awake, because we needed to know how it would end! This definitely made my love for anime grow. The only issue I have at times are reading the subtitles. There are a lot that are translated into English, but my boyfriend prefers watching them with subtitles. I am hoping to see more of these types of movies. Mitusha and Taki are such relatable characters in many ways and while watching this movie I was hoping they would have their happily ever after. I can’t give a extended review without spoiling some of the movie, so I have to say if you love romantic stories that will make you laugh and cry, this one is for you. The animation is amazing and the artists are so talented.

Do any of you watch anime? Are there any movies or shows I should check out?

  1. This is a great anime movie, I love it so much. I also prefer watching with subtitles, because I found that there are certain phrases that lose their meaning when translated in the dubbed versions. Glad you enjoyed it!

  2. Gahhhh I’ve been meaning to watch this movie since I was in Japan last May! I should really get to it, eh?

  3. I really liked this movie, despite not having a boyfriend and watching it on my own 🙁 hahahaha I really recommend it! Thanks for the post
