If you follow our blog you will have noticed I have already posted a few times about this duology. The first book came out March 1st and I am here today to share my review with all of you on my spot of the blog tour. I was lucky to receive an ARC to this book. Keep on reading to find out what I thought about this book.
Love and the right timing were two things I didn’t believe in.
Love is about walking to the edge of the cliff and taking the leap together.
Timing was never on our side.
My first mistake was hooking up with my best friend.
My second came years later, when we met again, and I fell for her.
My third was letting her go, because I had to. Because a love like this wasn’t built to withstand the winds coming in our direction.
Love and timing.
I didn’t believe in either.
Then there was you . . .
Review
Cover Like I said with the cover reveal, I do like this cover. The way the picture was taken, lighting etc., it looks nice! I love the way the title is put on this cover.
Plot This was a good second chance romance! I am a big fan of these and Claire Contreras did this one right. Tessa and Rowan have known each other for a very long time and kind of dated (even though he really doesn’t date. Tessa was special though and old feelings rise when they see each other again when Tessa is back in town to get her stuff from her childhood home that is going to be put on the market. During the course of this book we realize that their familes have history and this kind of influences other parts of their lives as well. Things neither of them ever knew comes to the surface while they’re getting to know the other again. Only neither of them can deny what they’re feeling. I love how this comes to light while reading chapters from both of their POVs, add some flashbacks and we slowly get to know these characters well. Claire Contreras had me hooked from page one and left me wanting more after I read the last page. After reading this I think most of us wouldn’t mind a Rowan and I am really hoping Tessa gets everything she wants. I loved how this book took its time. Nothing happened too soon. All I know is I wish I had the second book at this moment. If you love second chances, humor, romance and some family secrets, this is a book for you!
Characters Tessa seems like a very sweet person and in some ways maybe a bit insecure. Being back at her childhood home is hard, because they’re selling it. She wishes they weren’t and that what happened to her parents never happened. Tessa would even trade her education if that meant her family was still happy. This made her not believe in marriage. Running in to Rowan again brings back feelings she didn’t remember having. She wants to ignore him, but just can’t. I think Tessa is someone who really needs to think of what she really wants. During the book she can’t decide where she wants to go. I think she should learn to be selfish at times.
Rowan seems like a player and someone who doesn’t feel anything, but you would be that way too if you were trained from a young age to show no emotion. I think we would all turn that way if starting at a young age we were trained to take over a company we couldn’t run for another twenty years. There is no emotion in his family, so it’s not strange that he doesn’t know how to show any. While as first born he is expected to take over the company, it’s clear that he also has other dreams. Tessa awakens things in him and he’s not really sure what to do with them. When he finds out what he has to do to be able to take over his family’s company, things change. Everything is a contract to him as long as he can get back out, but Tessa is making him think things over. I really feel bad for him. Every childhood should be filled with laughter and love, not working all the time when you should be playing with friends. Tessa opens him in ways he’s not used to, but it’s a really good thing.
