Wow, another month is over! This month went by so fast (it’s a few days shorter than most months, but still). It’s time to see what we read this month. Were we able to work on any of our goals with reading? If you want to know, take a look.
Candyce
I had a pretty good reading month, even though it was a bit slower than last month. I read a total of 13 books. I am still not doing to well with beat the backlist, haha. This month I only read 1 book that counts for that, haha. I did manage to finish a series though, so I am very happy about that. February was once again a month with e-books and I think next month will be like that as well. My Goodreads challenge is at 29 now, so I can’t complain! If I already reviewed a book that I read, you will be able to click on the title. It will bring you right to the review.
The Beauty of Darkness – Mary E. Pearson
This was the only physical book I read, haha. It does count for beat the backlist and finishing a series, so I am very happy with this one! Unfortunately, it was a lot different than I expected. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t wow me. Our buddy review came online this week, so you can see our full review there.
What the Valley Knows – Heather Christie
I was in this blog tour. The book was pretty interesting, but a lot different than I expected. It didn’t take me long to read though. The writing style was nice. It was also the first time the mother’s POV was mixed into a book like this.
Silver Fox – Misha Elliott
My review hasn’t come online yet for this book, but I really enjoyed this book. There is quite an age difference between the two main characters and it’s really interesting to see if they can overcome that. I thought the ending was a bit rushed though.
Blue Lily, Lily Blue – Maggie Stiefvater
I read the first two books last year and even though I loved them, I kind of never got around to reading the last two. A friend of ours was reading the series, so I decided when she got to the third book I would join her. Once again, I forgot why I waited so long. These books are so good. My review will be posted tomorrow.
In the Veil of Chaos – Nadia Blake & Logan Keys
I had the chance to read an ARC of this book. My review is already on Goodreads and Amazon, but my full review will be posted enough. I enjoyed this retelling of Hades and Persephone, but I wish it was longer. There were certain aspects I would’ve loved to have in this book.
The Wrong Kind of Love – Lexi Ryan
This book sounded so good and I am so happy I had the chance to read and review. I can’t imagine being betrayed by your twin sister the way Nicole was. The family she ends up working for though is amazing. This is definitely a romance everyone should read.
More Than Love You – Shayla Black
It was my first time reading something from Shayla Black and she didn’t disappoint. While I thought it was a bit too much sex in the beginning, the story turned out to be really touching. This book is a standalone, but the first two books are books I definitely want to read, because these characters are amazing.
Goodbye, Good Girl – Renee Blossom
This book was so different than I expected and NOT in a good way. It’s been a long time since I was conisdering not finishing reading something I started. A lot of the events in this book were just to much. I don’t like being negative about a book, but this just wasn’t for me. The worst thing about this is the character shares my name (only a different spelling).
When you want a baby, but aren’t in a relationship, you have certain options. Stella is in this situation and is looking for a way to have a baby and co-parent, without the relationship. Stella’s friend suggests Dane for the job. At first she doesn’t think he’s the right one, but things can change. This book was funny and sincere.
Heart Stronger – Rachel Blaufeld
When I read about this book, I didn’t expect to read the book that I did. This book was amazing! There was a lot of heartache, but a lot of healing and love as well. Claire and Aiken break down each other’s walls and they open up in ways neither of them expected. Rachel Blaufeld was able to surprise me with a plot twist in this story I did not see coming!
Frat Hell – S.M. Shade
After reading Scarlet Toys last year, I was really curious to see if S.M. Shade would be able to write another book that was just as good. While I still like Scarlet Toys better, this one is definitely special and I love it as well! Once again we got a lot of humor and a lot of romance. Jani and Noble were really fun characters. My full review will be posted soon.
I LOVED Scarlet Toys, so when I got the chance to be on this author’s ARC team and review the next book in this series, I was SO happy!
Everly – S.M. Shade
This is the first book in the Striking Back series and it’s not that long. I did enjoy this book and the characters were very interesting. The books really aren’t that long, so I will review all four of them at once. So, it will be a little while before the review is up.
Mason – S.M. Shade
This book starts right after the first book ends and I’m very happy I could continure right away. The first book ended in a cliffhanger. While I’m happy to see that Mason turned out to be like I expected, certain things were a bit too much all at once. I think the author wanted a bit too much to happen in the chapters she wrote.
Isabelle
I had a pretty good reading month when looking back on it! I thought I didn’t do that great as I only read 3 physical books. But I also listened to 8 audiobooks, so all in all I read 11 books which is pretty good for me! It also means I’m doing quite well on my Goodreads challenge, I’m currently 6 books ahead of schedule. I really hope to keep this up <3 On the other challenges I set myself I’m not doing so great. The only thing I’m really proud of is finishing a non-fiction book. Lets take a look at the books I read this month. UPDATE after writing this article I actually finished another book haha, I didn’t think I would as I only started it February the 27th but I finished it in a day haha. So that makes 12 read books and actually 4 physical ones, so I’m feeling a bit better about myself 😉
Spider Gwen – Most Wanted? (Vol 0) – Jason Latour
I saw someone talk about this one on booktube and liked the colors of it a lot, it also sounded interesting haha. I must say I was a bit disappointed in this one, it was a quite confusing and I’m not completely sure if I want to continue this series. I’m still intrigued but as I said, it was quite confusing.
The Beauty of Darkness – Mary E. Pearson
Another book that was a bit of a disappointment, I really enjoyed this series and my expectations were pretty high. We posted our buddy review here.
A Wrinkle in Time – Madeleine L’Engle
And I’m ashamed to say it, but another disappointment haha. This book is a classic and since it’s adapted to a movie that comes out in March I think, or April I thought the time was right to read it. I also really like the cover of my edition. However, I think this is more of a Children’s book than a MG as I was expecting it to be. There is a lot to the story but at the same time is quite simple. I also expected to read those 250 pages super quick but it took me a while!
Daughter of the Pirate King – Tricia Levenseller
I read quite some raving reviews for this book but to be honest I wasn’t expecting to like it so much. It’s about a female pirate on an enemy ship and that sounds awesome but I was a bit scared that it wouldn’t live up to the hype so that lowered my expectations. However, I really enjoyed it! I read it in a day and I can’t wait till I get my hands on my preorder of the sequel.
Harry Potter #5, #6, & #7 – J.K. Rowling
I’m so sad this journey has come to an end and I’m debating listening to them from the start again haha. I love these books so so much and listening to them for the first time was such a great experience <3
Astrophysics for People in a Hurry – Neil Degrasse Tyson
Finally finished a non-fiction book! And it was an audiobook! Can you believe it? I hardly can haha. I must admit I picked this one for the shortness of it, I also don’t think I got everything that was told in this one. I really enjoyed it though and might listen to it again so can pick up more things.
This one was fun! I recently mentioned I wanted to read a Katie Cotugno book and shortly after I found this audiobook. It was already on my want-to-read shelf on Goodreads and I decided to go for it, I think it was on Valentine’s Day! It was more about friendship than about romantic relationships in my opinion and I really liked that. Such a fun read, will for sure want to read more of Katie’s books.
Geek Girl #1,5, #2, & #3 – Holly Smale
I read the first book in this series about a year ago and while I though it was entertaining I hadn’t planned on reading the rest of the series. However I found these on my audiobook app and decided to give them a shot! I like the voice of the narrator a lot and really enjoyed these books. They’re nothing special but they are fun and geeky and sometimes that’s just what you need.
This our wrap up! What did you read this month? We would love to hear from you!
Isabelle I’m reading Daughter of the Siren Queen right now! I’m so happy you loved the first I love this duo so much lol
I preordered Daughter of the Siren Queen but I’m in France atm so hope that it’s delivered so I can start the moment I get home!
Don’t you just love having exciting mail to come home to lol??? I’m going to NY next week and I preordered children of blood and bone and an author is sending me a book but I’m having them mailed to the house I’m staying at. But I won a giveaway book so that and some preorder incentives and other goodies will be here when I get back lol.
Yes I love that!! I’m visiting a friend in the USA at the end of March and have so much stuff waiting for me there 🤣 saved on shipping and can’t wait to unbox all the things!!
