Cover

To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the cover! I know a lot of people the love the covers with abs and nice looking men on them, but it’s just not my thing. It doesn’t influence my opinion of the book though. I do love the little sentence on it though “First comes baby in the baby carriage”. That made me very curious.

Plot

Stella and Dane don’t seem like the types that will fall in love and live happily ever after and that is exactly what they both are looking for. After some family tragedy, Stella realizes that she isn’t getting any younger and she wants a baby. She doesn’t want to go to a spermbank, but she wants a man who will co-parent with her, nothing more. Dane, a retired NFL player, is trying to figure out what he wants in life. Like Stella, he doesn’t see himself married. Dating for more than three months is not done in his book. This man annoys Stella more than she imagined, but that is perfect for this arrangement. The only problem is, they feel a connection when they’re together. A friendship develops quickly, but are they able to keep it at just that.
This story was very heartwarming. Reading about Stella and Dane’s upbringing it’s understandable they both don’t believe in love. The only thing they do know is that they want kids. I loved the moment they met and how annoyed Stella was. Stella is very organized and very serious. Dane seems like he’s the exact opposite. He really knows how to get under her skin. This created a lot of funny moments. In between the fighting and teasing, there were a lot of warm and romantic moments. This book makes you fall in love with the characters and want them to have a happily ever after. Their friends and family make this story even better. I would love a friend like Delia. She may be rather quirky, but a friend that writes books is never a bad thing. Dane’s father is so sweet and only wants to see Dane happy. Levi, his ‘brother’ is another one who definitely needs a happy ending. I didn’t want to say goodbye to these characters. The only thing I had with this story was that it seemed to go really slow, while a lot did happen. This is difficult though, because I honestly wouldn’t know what should’ve been different. I love that this story proves that there is love out there for everyone. Especially when you don’t expect it.

Characters

Stella is a hardworking independent woman and is proud of that. The only thing missing in her life is a baby. Stella doesn’t really believe in love or being married. Growing up with her single mother, who had to work really hard and a father who wasn’t faithful destroyed her faith in all of that. All she wants is a man who will be the father of her child and nothing else. That is all she thinks she needs him for. Dane slowly starts growing on her and she’s feeling things she never expected. This scares her. Should she break down the walls she built up and give him the chance to hurt her? This is all new for Stella. She didn’t know she would ever meet someone who could make her feel this way. I loved the journey for her in this book. It was like her heart slowly started opening up without her even realizing it.

Dane isn’t a man who is known for sticking to something other than football. He never dates someone for more than three months and doesn’t see why he should. Things only get sticky after that. After retiring from the NFL, he’s trying to figure out what to do with his life. He doesn’t believe in love, because he saw his father waiting for a woman who left him whenever she felt like it. Dane isn’t up for something like that. He does have a bigger heart than he lets people realize. Dane has his own charity and does a lot for kids who don’t have a lot. This made me see a different side of him. When he had to go home, he was so protective of his father. Dane is definitely a family man. He’s not sure what to do with the new feelings he has or really even realizes he has them. Dane learns in this book, that not all woman are the same and some love stories actually have a chance.

Meet P. Dangelico:

Dangelico loves romance in all forms, cuddly creatures (four legged and two), really bloody sexy pulp, the NY Jets (although she’s reconsidering after this season), and to while away the day at the barn (apparently she does her best thinking shoveling horse crap). What she’s not enamored with is referring to herself in the third person and social media so don’t expect her to get on Twitter anytime soon. Oh, and although she was born in Italy, she’s been Jersey Strong since she turned six.
