This cover is very unique and I think it’s pretty. I love the little notes of pink on the cover. After reading this book I have to say the cover really doesn’t tell us what this book could be about.

I liked the idea of this plot. A father and daughter finally trying to settle down somewhere after constantly moving. CC can’t believe her father wants to finally settle down after so long and is anxious to have an actual home. She even gets upset when her father suggests she goes to college far away from Sugar Lump. CC has done enough traveling and is in love with Sugar Lump. The town is beautiful and she can think of plenty of ideas for her blog (she has a travel blog with millions of followers). She never had many friends, so is very surprised when Henry and Luna pull her into their group from the start. Things start to feel odd to her when there are barely any students at school, popular restaurants close early on a Friday night and everyone just disappears. CC starts feeling like something is wrong and even her father is lying to her. Thorn (the town’s “bad boy”) shows interest in her, but everyone says she should stay away. While at his house for lunch, she sees stuff she shouldn’t and this makes her wonder what’s really going on. Thorn lets her in on the secrets and she’s not sure what she should do. If she reveals these secrets, her father’s happily ever after is at stake. I like the idea of a town not being as perfect as it seems and how the author did this was really unique. I can’t say too much about this part of the book or even what I see as a plottwist without spoiling too much of this book. The town seems too good to be true and it actually is. To a certain point it seems like not much actually happens in this book, but I liked the author’s writing style. It was a pleasant read. I would’ve liked to seen CC’s blog play more of a part in the book than it did. It seemed like something really imporatnt to her and she was constantly taking pictures, but other than that nothing happened with the blog. This book made me laugh out loud a few times and I was hoping the characters would all be happy. The ending kind of upset me though. The last few chapters were pretty suspenseful and then it just ended. I felt we neede more closure and more information to see how what happened actually played out.

I liked CC from the start. She is used to moving from place to place when her father was ready for something new. So when he says they’re settling down she has a hard time believing him. While she is afraid to start school and has never really made many friends, she is very pleased that she is welcomed by Henry and Luna. It’s then she realized for the first time she is actually letting herself feel something and sees this as good and bad. It’s bad because she remembers by opening up she can also be hurt. I think CC kind of knew from the start that something was off in Sugar Lump, but was so desperate to settle somewhere she let it slide. I think she developed a lot during this book. Opening herself up and letting herself care for people wasn’t something that was easy for her. I also liked that even though she thought Thorn was interesting from the start she was cautious, it wasn’t insta love.

Henry is his own unique person and I liked him from the start. He seems like a fun guy to hang around. He does his own thing, but as the book continues you notice he is protective of the town and what it stands for. He is torn between his best friend and what he knows needs to be done for Sugar Lump.

Luna is also new in town and seems to feel like she can settle here and be happy. Even though she knows the town’s secret, she is okay with that, because her mom is finally happy. Luna is a fun character and is loyal to her friends and family.

Thorn has more going on than CC realizes in the beginning. It’s clear that he doesn’t get along with his mother, but we don’t realize why until a lot later. Thorn acts out and wants to leave Sugar Lump as soon as possible. When we find out what he’s lost, I understood Thorn so much more. He isn’t a bad boy, but a kid who is hurting and doesn’t know how to fix it.

The other people in town we meet along the way are rather quirky and funny, but seem like just the type of people who would live in a town like Sugar Lump.

All in all, I did enjoy this book. I liked the concept of there being more to a town than the picture perfect show they’re giving. I would’ve liked some more information towards the end and maybe even more after how this book ended. To a certain point I’m still wondering what it is I read, haha. It left me rather confused.
