December Bookhaul

The most wonderful time of the year is over and with that the last month of the year. It’s time for us to let you know what books we received this month and added to our never ending TBR!

Candyce

December was really good for me when it comes to books, haha. I participated with a Secret Santa, we did a gift swap with friends, Isabelle and I put together a surprise box with books and I celebrated Christmas with my family. I was also lucky enough to add my first two physical review copies! I have to say I was a good girl this month though, I didn’t buy any books myself, haha. In December I added 21 books to my collection. And I was once again very lucky to add some e-books to review. I have read a few of these already and left little reviews on Goodreads. Like I said in the wrap up post yesterday, I am a bit behind with writing reviews. I hope to catch up in the next couple of weeks.

Updrift & Breakwater – Errin Stevens

This author contacted me on Instagram and asked if I was interested in reviewing her second book in a series. Of course she would send me the first one as well. Then she asked if I wanted the e-books or physical copies. I said I would love physical copies, but I would understand if e-books were easier, because shipping can be expensive. She didn’t mind sending me physical copies. Errin Stevens is really sweet. I definitely want to get to these this month, so I can review them. Hopefully they are as amazing as I think they will be.

Wonder – R.J. Palacio

I have been hearing about this book for awhile now in different book groups. And I heard of this more because of the movie that was made. I am someone who likes to read the book before the movie, so I was happy when I get this at our gift swap with friends.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue – Mackenzi Lee

This was another anticipated release that I have been hearing so much about. It sounds really good, so I put it on top of my Christmas list. I was happy to see it when I unwrapped gifts Christmas morning.

Prism – Nina Walker

I have heard about this book and it sounds really interesting. A friend of ours, Melissa, read this already and thought it was amazing. So far I haven’t read a book she suggested and not like it, so we’ll see.

All Broke Down, All Lined Up & All Played Out – Cora Carmack

I have the Losing It trilogy by Cora Cormack and have enjoyed the first two books. I still need to read the third one, haha. The Rusk University novels have been on my list for quite awhile. I love sports romances, so I think these are a really good choice for me.

Most of All You – Mia Sheridan

I read Archer’s Choice last year and was amazed. Mia Sheridan has a lot of other books, but when I read that a new book was being published I knew I needed it. I can’t wait to read this one.

Wish You Were Here – Renée Carlino

I haven’t read anything by Renée Carlino, but have heard amazing things. The description of this book sounds REALLY good, so I think I will become a fan.

Swear on This Life – Renée Carlino

Again the same as the book above here, haha. This is an older book, but I have heard nothing but good things. I have a feeling these are very emotional books though.

One of Us is Lying – Karen M. McManus

I read this book last year, but as an e-book and I loved this version of this book. So I was very happy when it was in my Secret Santa package. It looks good on my bookshelves.

Outlander – Diana Gabaldon

I don’t think there are many people who haven’t heard of Outlander, haha. Friends of ours are fans as well as Isabelle, so I think I need to give it a try. And who knows, maybe eventually watch the show.

A Shadow Bright and Burning – Jessica Cluess

This is another book that I have heard a lot of good things about and just look at that cover. It’s gorgrous!

Nyxia – Scott Reintgen

Another series that seems amazing and has a beautiful cover!!

The Unexpected Everything – Morgan Matson

I read Since You’ve Been Gone and really enjoyed her writing. This one has been on my wishlist for quite awhile, so I was happy that Isabelle decide to get this for me. And she had more motive than that. She has it as well and still needs to read it, haha.

Fireblood – Elly Blake

I haven’t read Frost Blood yet, but the covers are so beautiful I wanted the second one as well. And I like to be able to continue in a series. Especially if there are cliffhangers.

The Speaker – Traci Chee

I got The Reader last year and that book was amazing!! So I needed the next one. I have a feeling this one will be just as good.

Renegades – Marissa Meyer

I loved The Lunar Chronicles and I enjoyed Heartless, so this one was a no brainer. I have heard some mix reviews. Hopefully I can get to it before we meet Marissa Meyer in March.

Crystal Storm – Morgan Rhodes

I have not read one Falling Kingdoms book yet, but have the other four in paperback, so I needed this one. I am really planning on getting to it this year. Hopefully I will see it through, haha.

Heartless – Marissa Meyer

I read the e-book last year, but didn’t have the physical book yet. Isabelle had two copies, so I got to add this beautiful one to my collection. It has a nice place on my bookshelf now.

Lessons in Corruption – Giana Darling

This book came out last month and I have already read it, but haven’t posted a review. That will be changing this month.

The Edge of Juniper & Juniper Limits – Lora Richardson

I read The Edge of Juniper last month and once again I need to post a review, haha. I received the second one from the author and I am curious to see how it continues.

The Unveilig of Brielle Davis & The Undoing of Brielle Davis – Nissa Leder

The Unveiling of Brielle Davis was pretty emotional. The supernatural part wasn’t really developed yet, but I am hoping that is the case in the next book. It was definitely a good read though.

Picking the Corners – Ashley K. Broome

I read another book by this author and was given the chance to read this one. There was a lot of attention given to the game, so I hope the romance gets the lead in this one.

Salt & Caught in the Current – Pauline Creeden

As I said in my wrap up I am loving mermaid stories these days and this was definitely a good one. I will be reading Caught in the Current this month (for some reason I can’t find a picture of the cover, haha). Apparently this is a book about one of the characters we meet in Salt.

Everything She Needed – Christina Butrum

I read the first book last year and loved it!! I can’t wait to see what happens with the main character in this book. I loved her in the first book.

Begin Again Anthology

This book is for suicide awareness and has different short stories. I have a read a few so far and they are really emotional, but very beautiful. A review will be on the blog on the release day (January 11th).

Wonderful Love – Maggie Marr

I received an ARC and this book came out yesterday and I have already posted a review. This book was so much better than I expected and the main character is someone you want to end with his own happily ever after.

The Wright Secret – K.A. Linde

K.A. Linde is an amazing writer and I am lucky enough to have gotten an ARC. This book comes out soon and I will be posting a review during the blog tour.

The Girl Without Magic – Megan O’Russell

I have the opportunity to join a few blog tours this month and this is one of them. It comes out this month and I am very interested. The cover is amazing!

What the Valley Knows – Heather Christie

This is another book for a blog tour and it sounds like a good book for me. Another review that will be posted this month.

Goodbye, Good Girl -Renee Blossom

This book came out last year and I recently got a copy to review. I can’t wait to see what it’s about.

Tuesday at Six -K.J. Lewis

I just received the ARC for this book that is being published January 9th. I have a feeling this is going to be another emotional read.

Part-time Princess & Royally Wed – Pamela DuMond

I won these two e-books in a give away in a group on Facebook near the holidays. Who doesn’t want to be a princess? I think these books are going to be a lot of fun.

Isabelle

I got quite some books this month! 20 in total so a great way to end the year haha. Í do believe I only bought 4 for myself which is pretty decent in my opinion! I will go through them quite quickly as we have a lot to look at!

I Hate Fairyland vol 3 – Skottie Young

I loved the first 2 volumes of this comic and was super happy I got this one for Christmas. As mentioned in our wrap-up I already read this one.

Paper Girls vol 1 – Brian K. Vaughan

Another Christmas gift that I already read 😉

Betty & Veronica – Adam Hughes

I got this one on the 30th, and was my 100th book I read this year! I love Riverdale and want to get alllllll the Archie-verse comics.

Sailor Moon vol 1 – Naoko Takeuchi

I got this one whe I got Betty & Veronica. I visited a comic and manga shop in Rotterdam (where Candyce and I will shop very soon!) and this was the only manga I had heard of AND of which they sold the first volume haha. So many people seem to be massive fans of Sailor Moon so I figured I would give it a shot.

A friend of mine had vouchers for an online bookstore that she wasn’t using so she gave them to me <3 The following books I got with these vouchers.

Mistborn trilogy – Brandon Sanderson

These books have been on my wishlist forever and I can’t wait to finally read them. I hadn’t seen this edition anywhere before and I actually really like it!

Warbreaker – Brandon Sanderson

BookswithEmilyFox on Youtube has fastely become one of my favourite booktubers and according to her this is one of the two best Brandon Sanderson books to start off with. So here I am 😉 I’m planning on reading this in January!

Gemina – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

After reading Illuminae recently I needed to get Gemina! I hope to read this one before the third books comes out in March.

Furthermore – Tahareh Mafi

Since I got Whichwood in a bookbox in November, I felt like it was the perfect time to also get Furthermore. I love these covers and I hope the books live up to the hype.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (Ravenclaw Hardcover) – JK Rowling

I finally got the Ravenclaw edition! <3333 I’m so so happy I finally got it. Would love to get all the others editions as well.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Illustrated Edition) – JK Rowling

This was another Christmas gift. I got the first two illustrated books last year for Christmas and hope to make it a tradition for me to get the new one every year for Christmas haha.

The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet & A Closed and Common Orbit – Becky Chambers

I heard nothing but good things about these books so I got these for myself when ordering on Bookdepostory. They were both around 4 euros which is pretty cheap I would say. And isn’t that always a good excuse? 😉

Ink and Bone – Rachel Caine

This was one of the two books I got in my Christmas box from Candyce. I already owned book 2 in this series (oops!) and I’m happy I can finally start the series now.

Sleeping Giants – Sylvain Neuvel

This was the other one Candyce gifted me <3 I’ve been drooling over this cover forever and I’m so grateful I finally got it!

Thief’s Cunning – Sarah Ahiers

I read the first book in this duology last year and liked it, but not enough to buy the second book. However, my friend Adinda had two copies and asked if any of us were interested. Which I obviously was, I’m actually quite excited now to read this one.

The Hobbit – JRR Tolkien

This is another book Adinda was giving away. It’s a Dutch edition and looks quite nice! I’m happy to finally own it and hope to read it this year.

Windwitch – Susan Dennard

I got this beauty from Melissa when we did our Sinterklaas gift exchange. This was the push I needed to read Truthwitch (well this and Willemijn wanting to buddyread it haha). This will probably be my second read of 2018! I’m so excited to start it.

Everless – Sara Holland

And the last book I got this month was Everless, I got this one in my December Fairyloot. I wasn’t all that interested in this one, to be honest. However I heard a ton of good things about this book so I might still pick it up pretty soon.

These are the books we added to our collection last month. Have you read any of them yet? Did you receive any books we need to know about?

  1. ladies, NICE FREAKING HAUL haha!
I’m really curious to find out what you’ll think of Prism, Candyce!!
And of updrift! I received this book from my sister this Christmas alongside a nice mermaid blanket, so awesome!
Im really excited about that book <3

the Gentleman's guide to vice and virtue is still really high on my wishlist, I've heard grean things about that one!
And I'm so excited about Most of all you by Mia Sheridan as well, got it from Kwante this Christmas, yay.
And Nyxia is one of my highly anticipated 2017 releases but haven't gotten around to buy it yet, but that will definitely happen this year.
It's Sci-fi so that alone is reason enough for me to add it to my shelves haha but the synopsis sounds really great!

a Shadow bright and burning is one of my 2016 favorites, LOVED that book so much and re-read it in 2017.
Read the sequel as well and I'm cravingggg for book three now!

ohh and I see a K.A. Linde book, awesome! I really liked what I've read from this author so far!

And Isa, your haul is amaazing as well, damn!
Seeing your comic reads lately, makes me want to start buying them as well but at the same time I'm like: DON'T DO IT. Your buying behaviour is already out of control, let alone add new stuff to the equation as well, lol.

And so awesome you got the mistborn trilogy. I still need to read on with book 1, but what I've read so far was awesome. And I've only heard great things about the trilogy, so lets hope it'll live up to the expectations.
    AND GEMINAAAAAAA. YESSSSS
And the Ravenclaw hardcover of HP, whoopwhoop!!
And the illustrated edition of PoA, awesome!! I'm a bit jealous now – even though my own December hauls were amazing, lol.

I received sleeping giants as well in December, I'm so excited about it!

    1. Yes! We did good, haha.
I can’t wait to read Prism or Updrift. I have a feeling I will like Prism after your review, haha. The author of Updrift is so sweet. I hope to start soon! As well with all of the other books. I still need to find a way to get more reading time, haha.

  2. What a great run down of books, many of which weren’t on my radar, but are now! I’ve heard tons of great things about The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee, so I’m definitely going to have to read that at some point. I’d recommend Soldier Boy by Keely Hutton – it’s a dark and emotional book, but very relevant and beautifully rendered. I’m also awaiting Warcross by Marie Lu. This is an eagerly anticipated one, and I keep checking my postbox repeatedly! Lol.

    1. I LOVED Warcross… I hope you enjoy it! I will have to look into Soldier Boy. I don’t mind dark and emotional books at time and I love discovering different books I may not have run into. Thanks for the tip! And I know the feeling. When I am waiting for a book I contstantly keep checking. I can’t be patient when it comes to books, lol.
