In only a few more days this year will be all over! It flew by so fast. Hopefully everyone who celebrates had a nice Christmas and got some book spending money. The bookworld is starting off with a bang this January! There are so many new books being published that look REALLY good!! Our wallets aren’t going to be safe this month. In this post alone we will show you
The Cruel Prince – Holly Black (January 2nd)
I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this one and cannot wait to read it! I realised that I don’t really know too much about the synopsis other than it’s about faeries, there are siblings (I think) and obviously a prince haha.
The Sacrifice Box – Martin Stewart (January 11th)
This sounds like a very creepy and haunting story. Kids that find a box in the woods, and then all these creepy things start happening when the kids have grown apart. This story sounds right up my alley!
Death Below Stairs – Jennifer Ashley (January 2nd)
A Victorian murder mystery, that alone has got me interested. But this one also has a female cook, a mathematical genius, and a threat to Queen Victoria. I love murder mysteries and this one sounds great, it’s also the start of a new series so win-win!
Sinless – Sarah Tarkoff (January 9th)
This might be just another dystopian but it has a good synopsis. Morality is important in this world, when you’re good you’re also pretty, doing bad deeds gets you deformed or killed. Obviously there’s more going on and our heroine finds herself at the center of an epic battle. I’ll wait until there are some more reviews to decide if I’ll be reading this one but I like the concept.
Deadly Sweet – Lola Dodge (January 16th)
Witches, baking, an apprenticeship and a murder apprentice, do I need to say more? Because I’m hooked! I honestly don’t have anything else to say haha, a murder mystery with baking witches, I can’t wait.
Pretty Dead Girls – Monica Murphy (January 2nd)
I’m hoping that this book is what There’s Someone Inside Your House wasn’t. It’s supposed to be PRETTY LITTLE LIARS meets MEAN GIRLS meets SCREAM QUEENS, all guilty pleasures of mine so I have high hopes!
Blood and Sand – C.V. Wyk (January 16th)
A warrior princess and a handsome gladiator, oelalala! After loving The Valiant last year I feel like this will be another hit. I stopped reading the rest of the synopsis as I like to be surprised haha.
The Forgotten Book – Mechthild Glaser (January 2nd)
No cover available.
So this is an interesting one, it’s an English audiobook by a German writer, I’m pretty sure it’s a couple of Jane Austen retellings in one. There’s a boarding school where books are magical and Jane Austen reigns. There’s an Emma and a Darcy and it sounds great! I’m not really an audiobook fan but I might need to try it with this one.
Markswoman – Rati Mehrotra (January 23rd)
A sisterhood of elite warriors, definitely something I’m interested in! It sounds like it will be an epic fantasy with lots of betrayals and badass girls. Sign me up!
Books with short stories can be either really good or really bad, haha. These stories sound really sweet though. It’s nice to have books like these to read when there isn’t much time to read and you don’t have to stop in the middle of an exciting part of the story.
Between the Blade and the Heart – Amanda Hocking (January 2nd)
A book about valkyries, doesn’t that sound great?! The rest of the synopsis doesn’t give us that much and doesn’t sound that special BUT it’s about valkyries and that’s super cool. I love reading about different myths and mystical creatures and I’ve never read one about valkyries before. Time to change that!
Reign the Earth – A.C. Gaughen (January 30th)
A new fantasy series (as if I don’t have enough), this one has an arranged marriage, mystical people that control earth, wind, air, and fire, I’m in!
Reign of the Fallen – Sarah Glenn Marsh (January 23rd)
Another new fantasy series (also another Reign something) and I love love love this cover. It also sounds AMAZING! It’s about necromancers, mummy like Dead, the possibility of turning into a zombie and it has great reviews from ARC readers <3
You’ll Miss Me When I’m Gone – Rachel Lynn Solomon (January 2nd)
This sounds like a very emotional story, but I think it will be beautiful in the end. I can’t imagine what it’s like to lose family members this way or when your twin has a disease and there’s nothing you can do.
Gunslinger Girl – Lyndsay Ely (January 2nd)
In the future the US gets another Civil War and the the West turns wild again, enter our heroine; the fastest sharpshooter in the West. This sounds like we get a badass main character and interesting world.
The Hazel Wood – Melissa Albert (January 30th)
So much hype surrounding this one already! A magical wood, fairytales that might be real, a daughter trying to save her mom. I hope this one can live up to all the hype.
Unearthed – Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner (January 9th)
I’ve been interested in reading more sci-fi and since I loved Illuminea I’m excited to try more of Amie Kaufmans work. I have Meagan Spooners Hunted waiting on my shelves but I have a feeling I will love that one so I’m also excited for this one haha. Does is make sense? Oh there’s also an interesting synopsis 😉
The Defiant – Lesley Livingston (January 23rd)
The Valiant was in both of our Top 17 of 2017, so this is one we both really need to read. Hopefully the book will be as promising as this beautiful cover!
Batman: Nightwalker – Marie Lu (January 2nd)
Last year I read Wonder Woman, so I want the next one in the series of four books coming. After reading Warcross, I definitely won’t so no to another book by Marie Lu.
Bad for You – J. Daniels (January 23rd)
The Bama Boys were some of my favorite characters from New Adult books this year, so this one is a mustread. I am lucky enough to read an ARC of this book, so you will be getting a review around the release date. I will be participating in the blogtour.
Moonlight Sins – Jennifer L Armentrout (January 30th)
Jennifer L Armentrout is another autobuy author for me, so this was added without even thinking. It sounds really good though and Jennifer was really enthousiastic when she told us about it when she visited The Netherlands in October.
Before I Let Go – Marieke Nijkamp (January 2nd)
Last year I read 54 minutes and was very impressed by this writer’s writing. This story sounds very interesting and probably another one that will keep us wanting more.
Zenith – Sars Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings (January 16th)
This book has been all over the bookworld, so I hope it can keep up with the expectations I have. It sounds really good though, but I may wait to read it until after the hype dies down a bit.
Everless – Sara Holland (January 2nd)
Isabelle was already lucky enough to get this book in a subscription box, but I have to wait until it releases. Which isn’t much longer. A couple of friends have already read this and were very happy with this book.
Wires and Nerve, Volume 2: Gone Rogue – Marissa Meyer (January 30th)
This is the second graphic novel that follows Iko from The Lunar Chronicles. The first one was really cute, so the second one needs to be added to the collection as well.
Heart on Fire – Amanda Bouchet (January 2nd)
I have been waiting a year for this book!! I read Breath of Fire in January of this year when it came out. So I can say it’s been a torture waiting for this book. A friend, Melissa, was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book and said it was amazing. I can’t wait to find out what happens to Cat and Griffin. The way Breath of Fire ended left me wanting more.
Robots vs. Faeries – Dominik Parisien & Navah Wolfe (January 9th)
I love reading about faeries, but I haven’t read much about robots. This is another anthology, so I’m curious to see which side I think is more interesting when I’m done, haha.
The Fandom – Anna Day (January 4th)
As fangirls any books that have anything to do with fandoms or fangirls is almost always added to our lists, haha. This one seems more action packed than other books about fandoms are. It will be interesting to see how it’s done.
Society of Wishes – Elise Kova & Lynn Larsh (January 29th)
Another Elise Kova on my wishlist haha, I love Air Awakens and am interested in all her books basically. The worlds she creates sound super interesting. In this urban fantasy our main character saves her best friend with a wish and has to live with the cost of that wish. I think there’s a lot going on in this one and I’m dying to get my hands on it.
Truly Devious – Maureen Johnson (January 16th)
I only found out about this one recently and it sounds amazing! The private school our story takes place was once the scene of a murder. The founders wife and daughter got kidnapped and the only clue was a mocking riddle signed ‘truly devious’. Our main character is excited to try and solve the decades old case. However ‘truly devious’ returns and it sounds like a very intriguing murder mystery.
Three Blind Dates – Meghan Quinn (January 4th)
I loved Dear Life and I happened to stumble into this book on Goodreads. It sounds like a funny and heartwarming book. I loved her writing, so it’s time to read something else by this author.
The Wright Secret – K.A. Linde (January 9th)
Another book that sounds amazing. When a girl falls for he brother’s best friend anything can happen. I was lucky to receive an ARC of this as well, so it’s another book that will be reviewed and posted on the blog in January.
xo, Zach – Kendall Ryan (January 22nd)
I already did the cover reveal on the blog for this book, so I knew this one was coming. It sounds SO good!! Kendall Ryan is good at creating books with a lot of romance and humor. I can’t wait to see what she did with this one.
With this list of books that sound pretty good, I think actually sticking to the challenge of reading more from our bookshelves that we’ve owned for awhile can become challenging, haha. What books do you plan on getting in January? Did we miss any? We would be surprised if we did with so many books, haha. But you never know.
