November Wrap Up

Last month we both had a really good reading month! November is now over and it’s time to see if this month was just as good!

Candyce

Last month I was surprised by how much I was able to read and wondered if I would be able to keep it up in November. And I did!! This month I read 15 books and 3 short stories! I am now 10 books ahead of schedule with my Goodreads challenge. This month had some amazing reads! I only read four physical books. The rest were e-books.

Trust Me I’m Lying – Mary Elizabeth Summer

This was an interesting read. A lot different, but still good. We have a buddy review for this that you can find here.

One Dark Throne – Kendare Blake

After reading Three Dark Crowns I knew that One Dark Throne was going to be a must read and I can happily say that this is the case! What an amazing book. This was another buddy read and you can read our review here.

Warcross – Marie Lu

The book’s beautiful cover was already a reason to want to read this book, haha. It didn’t disappoint either. This was a really unique story and I kind of wish I had the second books already! Our buddy review will be posted on Saturday if you want to read what we thought about this book.

They Both Die at the End – Adam Silvera

Earlier this year I read More Happy Than Not and History is All You Left Me and I thought both books were amazing. When I read about They Both Die at the End I needed it. Adam Silvera has become an autobuy author for me and he didn’t disappoint. This book was beautiful and heartbreaking. The book only takes place in less than 24 hours and you connect with the characters more than you would expect. We posted a buddy review about this book that you can read here.

One of Us is Lying – Karen M. McManus

Isabelle read this book earlier this year and said it was interesting and a group I’m in on Facebook was doing it as the book of the month. I didn’t finish completely on time, but I did enjoy this book. There were certain things that bothered me, but I was happy I finally took the time to read it. Our review can be found here.

First and Goal – Kata Cuic

This series caught my eye quite awhile ago. When I had the chance to review the first one, I knew I needed to take the opportunity. This book was so good and so different than I expected. Unfortunately this author has decided to stop writing, but these books are still available on Amazon until early next year. I will definitely still read the other ones, but if you’re unsure if you should get these, read my review here.

Ascendant – Kyra Gregory

I was approached by the author to review this book and it sounded really interesting, so I accepted. I enjoyed this book. There were some things that bothered me, but I think it has some potential. It’s only the first in a series, so I think that some things will definitely develop. My review can be found here.

A Steel Heart – Amie Knight

I read A Steel Heart a couple of months ago and was amazed by this book. After reviewing it I got the opportunity to join this author’s ARC group. This gave me the chance to read A Steel Heart early to review and I have to say this is my favorite romance of the year. My full review has already been posted and can be found here.

The Hipster Chronicles – Faith Andrews

The Hipster Chronicles is a book about four couples that live in New York and that are basically hipsters, haha. You get a small peak into when the couples meet each other and how it plays out. I definitely wouldn’t mind more about these characters, because I want to know more, haha. This book wasn’t long enough to write a full review, so it may appear in a mini review in the future, but I did do a review on Goodreads.

Scarlet Toys – S.M. Shade

This book was just released on November 28th and it was so funny! I got an early copy and read it in one sitting. My review will be posted on the blog very soon. So keep an eye out!

Severance – S.G.D. Singh

If you’ve been following us, you know that Isabelle and I are total fans of The Infernal Guard Trilogy! We wanted to read the last book and find out what happened, but didn’t want it to end either. The author definitely didn’t disappoint. You can find our buddy review here.

The Bed Mate – Kendall Ryan

Kendall Ryan writes amazing books and I have already read a couple in The Room Mate series and this one sounded like so much fun. It’s only a novella, so my complaint is that it’s way too short, haha. This story is a definite must read though. I did write a review, because I was so excited about it, haha. You can find my review here.

Recklessly Forbidden – Emily Bowie

When I read about this book I was interested. It started off saying life was hard as the sister of a good high school football player, so I thought that it would be more of a sports romance. This wasn’t the case, but it was still a really good book. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the next book. If you want to know more click here for my review.

Hot and Heavy – Elle Kennedy

The Off Campus series is one of my favorite sports romances of this year. When I read on Facebook that she was publishing her Out of Uniform series again I became curious. I hadn’t heard of this one yet, but it sounded good. This series has 10 books – 6 shorter stories and 4 full length books. This time she decided to bundle some together, so the 6 shorter books were split into two books and the rest will come out again as they were. These are fun reads that make you laugh out loud and fall in love with the characters. My review for books 4-6 can be found here.

Playing the Point – Ashley K. Broome

The cover and title already let us know that this is going to be a sports romance. So that had me interested anyways and it’s a story with a M/M relationship instead of M/F. It was an interesting book, but unfortunately it focused more on the competition than on the romance. My review will be posted soon.

Judging Books – Shay Savage

This was another book I was lucky enough to get an ARC for and I’m very pleased with this opportuinty. The description of this book appealed to me, but while reading it, it was so much more. I finished this book a few days ago and am still thinking about it. It was released on Tuesday, so you should definitely check it out. If you want more information, click here for my review.

As I said, this has been an amazing reading month. When I first set up my part of this post I thought I wouldn’t finish anymore books this month. It’s now November 30th and I managed to finish a book I was reading yesterday and a book I was reading this afternoon. This brings my total up to 17 books and 3 short stories. I only need 1 more book to complete my Goodreads challenge! But okay, this is the wrap up. The other two books I finished are:

2501074733602143

Darkness Brutal – Rachel A. Marks

I read Fire & Bone, that was also written by this author, not all too long ago and was really impressed. Darkness Brutal is an earlier book of hers that was also offered to me to review. I finished it this afternoon and was once again impressed. There are some clichés and things that could’ve been left out, but all in all a good book. A review will follow in the near future.

Pride and Prejudice and Mistletoe – Melissa de la Cruz

After hearing Christmas songs on the radio, I have been craving a Christmas book, haha. I wanted to wait until December actually started, but I gave in a couple of days ago. This as a fast and enjoyable read. The main character was a tad annoying at times, but this was a good book to start off the holiday season. You can expect a review in December.

Isabelle

I had probably my best reading month ever! I don’t think that I’ve ever read this many books in a month and I’m super happy with it. I’ve read 13 books, 7 of those are physical copies and 6 are ebooks. Let’s take a closer look!

The Illustrated Compendium of Amazing Animal Facts – Maja Säfström

I got the Dutch version of this cute little book in Antwerp and I loved it so so much. There are all these really nice black and white animal drawings and they’re surrounded by facts about the animal. I already knew some of them but there were a lot of new ones for me as well. And they were pretty shocking and funny too! I enjoyed reading this a lot.

Murder on the Orient Express – Agatha Christie

My grandmother and mother have collected quite a lot of Agathe Christies books and I always planned on reading them. Somehow it never came to that haha, but with the movie that just hit the theaters I just had to read this one. Unfortenately this was one of the only ones my mom didn’t have, the good thing about that is that I got to buy this stunning copy. I enjoyed reading this a lot and am looking forward to seeing the movie with my mom.

The Princess Saves Herself in this One – Amanda Lovelace

This is another one I got in Antwerp, and I actually read the whole thing in one sitting there as well haha. It isn’t that big and there’s not a lot of text on each page so it was a super quick read. I’ve read a couple of negative reviews and I can see where they are coming from. The poetry in this one isn’t considered ‘real poetry’ by poetry-lovers. However, I’m not really a fan of poetry so I actually really enjoyed this in, it was an easy way to get into poetry and the story that is being told is simply heartbreaking.

Trust Me, I’m Lying – Mary Elizabeth Summer

This was one of the 5 buddyreads Candyce and I had this month, at least I think it was 5… This book had been on my TBR for quite a while and while I’m happy I finally read it I was a bit dissapointed. Candyce already linked to our buddyreview, which you can find here 😉

One Dark Throne – Kendare Blake

Another buddy read!! I’ve wanted to read this one since it came out early September but I had a ton of bad luck with my order. I’m so happy I’ve finally read it and cannot wait ’till we get the next installment. Luckily we’re getting a novella this month! Our buddy review can be found here.

Warcross – Marie Lu

This was one of my most anticipated realeases for this year. I had heard so many good things about it and it got a ton of buzz. I really really liked this one, the world building is amazing and we get a ton of amazing characters. I did guess some of the plottwists and wasn’t to impressed with one other twist. I did really like one of them though and I am already looking forward to the next book!

Illuminae – Jay Kristoff & Amie Kaufman

Almost all my book-friends were raving about this book and encouraging me to read it. I finally bought the beautiful hardcover this summer and this week I suddenly had the urge to pick it up. I loved the concept of this book but after all the love it got I must admit I was expecting a bit more. However I’m extremely curious for the second book and hope to get it this Christmas. I’ll at least have to read it before March so I can continue with the third book right as it comes out 😉

333852293548721132106429

They Both Die at the End – Adam Silvera

This was another one of my highly anticipated reads, I read History is All You Left Me this summer in one sitting and cried so much that I was really interested in this one. I was a bit hesitant as it takes place in the span of about 24 hours. However there was no need to worry as you can read in our buddy review, just make sure you have enough Kleenex with you 😉

Severance – SGD Singh

The last book in the series! I cannot express how sad I feel when thinking about this series and the lack of attention for it. I enjoyed these books so much and they only got better and better. The author makes such daring choices and I cried my eyes out during this last one. You can find our buddy review here.

Head in the Game – Lily Cahill

I think I got this one for free through BookBub. I’m interested in sports romances but haven’t read that many yet. And while I did enjoy this one, at the same time I think these types of NA might just not be for me. Or maybe it was simply the book, it lacked a certain amount of depth and I couldn’t relate to the female MC at all. I liked the male MC a lot and might still continue with the series as they all have different MC’s, most of them we’ve already met and they got me curious 😉

3616042036621016131123

Twelve – Jennifer Lynn Barnes

This is a companion novella to the Naturals series, which I ADORE. I finally got a ton of other people hooked on this series. It’s perfect for fans of Criminal Minds. The characters are amazing and I’m so happy I got to go one other case with them.

World Reader vol 1 – Jeff Loveness

I got a free copy of this comic through Netgalley and you can expect a mini review for this one soon. I liked the art style although it did lack some details. Same goes for the story, the plot was quite interesting but it lacked a certain richness, you didn’t get a chance to get to know the characters that much and as the art style the world lacked details.

The Austere Academy – Lemony Snicket

I read the first couple of books in this series around the time the Netflix series was released. I enjoyed both the books and the tv series and finally got around to reading the next book. I hope to read the whole series soonish. I really enjoy these books although they do get a bit repetitive. The show did get me really curious as to something that might be going on in these books and I hope to learn more about that soon. That’s definitely the most important reason why I want to finish this series.

This is what we read this month! What did you read? What book was your favorite?

  1. You both read a lot of books, NICE!!! For me it was probably one of the worst reading months this year haha. ‘only’ 8 books whereas last month I’ve finished 17 books. But maybe December will be better for me haha.

Definitely some books in here I’m curious about so I’ve added a couple to my to-read list xD
