Not too long ago I was honored to help Amie Knight reveal to the cover of her book A Steel Heart. A couple days after that I was lucky enough to receive and ARC of this book and to participate in the blog tour. I just finished (it’s a few days before the release). All I can say is WOW! To find out why I thought this book was so amazing keep on reading.
Cover
As I have already said in my cover reveal post I really love this cover. After reading this book the cover gained more meaning. It fits this book really well.
“I wrote the title My One. I started with his hair and eyes. He’d be dark-haired with even darker eyes. They’d be haunted because all good book boyfriends’ eyes were.
Plot
Wow! If I could give this book more than 5 stars I would. This book was everything and more. I recently read See Through Heart and already thought that was amazing, but this book got even better. I loved that the characters from See Through Heart made an appearance here and we got to see what they were up to, but back to this story. Miranda and Holden. It starts off with Miranda stalking her hot next door neighbor, of course they eventually meet and she likes him! Holden hasn’t had an easy year, stepping on an IED really changed his life more than he ever wanted. Dealing with the trauma and new life he never expected Miranda. She turned his world upside down. A Steel Heart describes their journey. They love so much, but have they gone through too much to be together? Amie Knight wrote this book in a way that made me feel every single emotion and a few chapters had me in tears. I just couldn’t get enough. Miranda is so relatable with her love of books and cuddling babies. Holden’s story is heartbreaking and all I wanted was for him to get his happily ever after. He didn’t think he deserved it, but when you read about all he went through you pray he gets it! Besides the serious parts of the book she knows how to give us funny parts as well. This book was basically an emotional rollercoaster ride I couldn’t get enough of. At the end of the book I read that there is another book coming and all I can say is I need it yesterday, haha. This book had me hooked from start to finish and has left me wanting more. I don’t want to say too much about it, because how romantic Holden is made me melt, but readers need to be surprised and see what he does.
“”You might be right,” I whispered. “But I still want it.” He pushed some hair off my forehead. “Want what?” “True love. Mad love. Deep love. The kind of love that makes you do insane things. The kind of love that makes as angry as it does happy. The kind of love that hurts you as much as it heals you. The forever kind. “”
Characters
Miranda is an editor and in her case she edits romances. She loves books and dreams of her own perfect bookboyfriend and even has a list. That’s also her thing. After having a difficult childhood and not the greatest relationship with her mother she writes lists for everything and some are really funny. Miranda even has a list for here “one”. She is a character I related to from the start and that made reading this book so much more fun. She falls fast and hard for Holden and really wants to help him. After losing Lori during her teen years she can’t stand the thought of going through that again. When Holden tries to push her away, she pushes back harder. She is a strong woman who is comfortable in her own skin.
“I didn’t tell her that liking him was an understatement. I liked chocolate. Good beer. The beach. A fantastic romance novel. This man looked like he’d walked right out of one of my military romances I edited for a living. He was everything a girl could want; stoic, hard, possibly damaged, and sexy as sin. I was obsessed.”
Holden was a soldier in the army and can’t imagine himself choosing a different path. Stepping on the IED kind of changed that for him and he isn’t quite sure where to go from there. He feels a lot of guilt about how everything happened and sees the death of his best friend as his fault. Before meeting Miranda he didn’t think he would find love or that he really even deserved it. He doesn’t think he has anything to offer to a woman. Miranda sweeps him off his feet. He tries his hardest not to open himself up, but he just can’t resist. All he wants is to protect her, but before he can do that he has to deal with own demons and that takes awhile for him to realize. He’s very romantic (he even reads romances, haha) and what he does for Miranda in the end is so sweet! A lot of bookworms like myself would love if this was done for them. That’s all I will say about that, you need to read for yourself. Holden definitely fits my list of a book boyfriend.
“I had no business even being friends with a young twenty-something girl who wasn’t yet jaded by life and all its negatives.”
