Mini reviews | Archie comics edition

In honour of Riverdale returning for its second season I wanted to share my thoughts on the comics from the Archie-verse I’ve read so far. I started these comics after I watch the first couple of episodes of Riverdale. I just couldn’t get enough of this world and wanted more! That’s when I found the new Archie comics. There will be 5 different comics I believe. Obviously there’s Archie, but we also get Jughead, Betty&Veronica, Reggie&Me, and Josie and The Pussycats. Lets take a look at the comics I’ve read.

Today I want to talk about three comics in the Archie verse; Road to Riverdale, Archie, and Jughead. I bought these comics when we were a couple of episodes into season 1, I was OBSESSED and needed more Archie haha.

Road To Riverdale – Mark Waid, Chip Zdarsky, Adam Hughes, Marguerite Bennet, Fiona Staples

Road to Riverdale contains the first issues of all the ‘new Riverdale’ comics. So you get Archie, Jughead, Betty&Veronica, Reggie&Me, and Josie and The Pussycats. This was a great way to get a feel for the different comics and to get hooked on them. I saw that there are currently more volumes of Road to Riverdale and while I really enjoyed this first volume I don’t plan on getting the rest. I’d rather get the individual comics so I can keep reading more issues of the same story. I guess that’s up to personal preference and might be different for someone else. This first volume does get 5 crowns from me though, it was the perfect introduction!

The second comic I read was Archie Volume 1. Right after I finished Road to Riverdale I started this one. I very much enjoyed this one. The art is really to my liking and I love this style. It was interesting to see the characters I know from the tv show (I know it’s usually the other way around!), Archie, Betty and Veronica are a bit different on tv than they are in the comics. I must say I like comic Betty better than tv show Betty but it’s the other way around with Archie and Veronica. The plot isn’t anything special but it’s very enjoyable and easy to read. It’s a nice read in between tougher novels and great for a Riverdale fan!

Jughead – Chip Zdarsky, Erica Henderson

Oh how I loved this one! Jughead is one of my favorite characters and this comic was just so much fun. The art is a bit different from the Archie art and it took a little while for me to get used to. However I can really appreciate it now. The plot was interesting and the little ‘stories’ in between were hilarious. Like I said, I really loved this one and was laughing out loud a lot. All I can say is; go read this one soon! Can’t wait to get my hands on the next volume.

Have you read any of these comics? Do you watch Riverdale? And do you enjoy it? I’m about to start the first episode of the second season now! Super excited about it.
