Liebster Awards 1 & 2

We have only been blogging for four months now and were very surprised we were nominated, not once, but twice for The Liebster Awards! We were nominated by two blogs: Nose Stuck in a Book and In Love & Words. Thank you both so much! We are very flattered. Seeing how we were nominated twice in a span of a couple of days, we decided to incorporate both nominations in one post!

Here are the rules:

  • Thank the blogger who nominated you and link to their post
  • Answer the 11 questions they asked you
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers, with your own set of questions
  • Tag your chosen 11 bloggers, and don’t forget to tell them as well!

Since we will both answer these questions we decided to use two colors for the answers; Isabelle and Candyce.

These are the questions we were given by Nose Stuck in a Book:

  1. What is more important to you– status, power, or money?
I don’t care about power or status AT ALL so I would go for money since you can do so many things with money. It’s nice to not have to worry about money and I love a lot of things you can buy with it 😉 Obviously books, but I also have a horse (quite an expensive hobby), love going to concerts and to travel and I give some money to charities every month. If I had more money I would definitely give to more charities and try to make the world a better place.

Just like Isabelle, status and power aren’t something that are important to me. I would go for money as well. It’s something we all need to survive and it’s not something people should have to struggle with. I don’t need to be really rich, but to live in comfort and be able to give something back, sounds really good to me.

  2. What annoys you the most about people?
HAHA, people are so annoying in general! I can get annoyed by so many things but I think what annoys me the most is negativity and people getting upset over things that don’t even affect them. People on the internet can get so mean and upsetting and I think they tend to forget that there is someone on the other side of the screen and they don’t know the affect they have on that person. I can get so mad about people hating on LGTBQ+ people, what the hell did they do to you to be upset about who they are and who they love? They’re not hurting anyone, they just want to be happy like everyone else, YOU are the one hurting people. So yeah, tiny rant but that annoys me about people haha.

People these days can be very selfish. Luckily this isn’t the case for all people, but a lot these days. Most people think they are entitled to everything they want and who cares what happens to others. Or just being respectful. It’s hard for people these days to even hold the door for someone or help someone they see struggling. While the world has gotten to be a scary place, I think we’ve forgotten how to be nice to others as well.

  3. What was your favorite subject in school?
That’s a hard one! I liked history as we had a passionate teacher and she always brought stuff with her to make the lessons interesting. I also enjoyed Dutch as we got to read and do book reports 😉

I always loved school, so this is a hard question. I could answer this question a lot faster is you asked me what subject I disliked the most, haha. My favorite subject was English. Not the grammar and other aspects, but the reading books and talking about them. It’s always been a passion.

  4. What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I’m not a person that’s proud of herself easily and to say I’m most proud of any ‘accomplishment’ is way out of my comfort zone. I think I’m pretty proud of myself for stepping out of my comfort zone and doing a master’s degree in London, I really had to depend on myself and I did. I made so many memories and found friends for live <3

The big accomplishment for me is learning Dutch as fast as I did. It was scary being in a country I didn’t really know and at a school where no one could really understand me. I was more capable of learning the language than I first thought. My most recent accomplishment though is getting my Masters Degree. Some things were really tough, but I was able to get through it all.

  5. How did you meet your spouse/ girlfriend/boyfriend?
I DIDN’T YET, thanks for rubbing that in haha. I’m excited to find out the answer to this question 😉

I met my boyfriend online 14 years ago. We met on an online forum (Gaia Online). I haven’t been on that site in ages, but it was fun way back when. We have been together for over 8 years now, so it took us a bit to find our way to each other, but I’m happy with how it turned out <3.

  6. What are your top three favorite books and why?
NOPE, can’t do it haha. I think by now you all know the Harry Potter series is my favorite thing ever, it’s just so magical and probably the reason I fell in love with fantasy books. I don’t think I can give you a number 2&3 they change day to day, hour to hour haha.

This is an IMPOSSIBLE question! It’s so cruel, haha. How can I pick just three?!? Just like Isabelle said, they can change so easily. Harry Potter will always be on top for me though. Those are very magical books that I love returning to.

  7. What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I think most people probably don’t know (or didn’t before question 1 haha) I own a horse and spend a lot of my time at the stables.

This is a hard question. The only thing that comes to mind is that I can sleep with my eyes open. I did this when I was younger. I scared my mother and I have to say I scared my boyfriend the first time he noticed I did this. Haha. He thinks it’s creepy.

  8. What’s something you wish everyone knew about you?
To buy me books whenever they get me a present 😉

I am a quiet person when you get to know me. It’s not that I’m shy, well I am a bit, but I tend to take everything in before I open up. Once you get to know me I can talk a lot though, haha.

  9. Do you think it’s better to get married when you’re young or better to wait a while?
I don’t think there’s a ‘better’, when the time is right for you and your spouse-to-be than that is the right time!

This is different for every couple. Some are happy getting married as soon as possible and others wait it out. My boyfriend and I are doing it all in steps. Being together, moving in together and we’ll eventually get to the next step in our own time.

  10. What do you do for fun?
Reading is the obvious answer here haha, also riding my horse, listening to music, watching tv shows, playing a board game, going to concerts, browsing Pinterest, working on my bullet journal, coloring.

I think you all know the thing I do the most for fun, haha. Reading will always be the number one on this list. I love hanging out with friends, game nights, watching tv shows, bulletjournal, exploring new places and playing with my fur babies.

  11. What are the things that scare you?
SPIDERS, they creep me out so much.

Just like Isabelle, definitely spiders, but basically insects in general, haha. Also losing the people I love.

These are the questions we were given by In Love & Words:

  1. Why did you decide to start blogging?
A couple of our friends are bloggers and we really enjoyed reading their blogs. We love talking about books and thought it would be fun to try and do this blogging thing together.

Like Isabelle said a few of our friends are bloggers and we loved reading what they did. I thought it sounded like a lot of fun, but I wasn’t sure it was something I would keep up if I did it all by myself. That got us talking and The Book Dutchesses is what came out of that discussion.

  2. What are your Top 5 favorite romance novels.
I don’t read that much romance so this is actually a hard one but I’ll try my best!
    1. To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before – Jenny Han
    2. The Summer I Became a Nerd – Leah Rae Miller
    3. Adorkable – Cookie O’Gorman
    4. Geekerella – Ashley Poston
    5. P.S. I Like You – Kasie West

Unlike Isabelle, I read a lot of romance, so this is also a very difficult question. This is something that can change next week, so these are the ones on that list now.
    1. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before – Jenny Han
    2. Tuesdays at Six – K.J. Lewis
    3. A Steel Heart – Amie Knight
    4. Bad for You – J. Daniels

    5. Stage Kiss – M.F. Lorson

  3. Who are 3 of your insta-buy authors?
Karin Slaughter, Leigh Bardugo & V.E. Schwab to name just 3.

Another list that is impossible, but the first 3 that pop up are Jennifer L. Armentrout, Adam Silvera and Colleen Hoover.

  4. What type of blog posts do you like to read the most?
Any type of list is a blogpost I love to read! I also really like tags and book hauls.

I love reading book hauls and tags. Another type of blog post I love reading are bookish events. If people go to author events or fun bookish places, I always love seeing what they did and what they thought.

  5. What type of blog posts do you like to write the most?
I really like to write list-types of posts and tags. I also enjoy writing wrap-ups to see all the great books I devoured that month.

My favorite type of blog post to write are tags. Just like Isabelle, I also enjoy the wrapups and our bookish items are really fun as well. As you can see, I can’t really choose.

  6. What is the last book you purchased and why?
The last book I purchased was Paradise Kiss volume 1. I started reading more comics last year and I”m slowly getting into manga as well. I heard really good things about this one so it was high on my wishlist. I kinda banned myself from buying books but figured comics and manga don’t count as I read them pretty quickly and usually really fast after buying them.

The last book I purchased was Nevermoor. I bought this book, because there will be a readalong in a Facebook group next month and the book looks so cute. I have been really good about buying books this month, so I am very proud.

  7. What was your favorite blog post that YOU’VE written in 2017?
This is probably the hardest question out of all of them! This kinda feels like saying I’m proud of something and as I said before that’s not something I tend to do haha. I think I really liked our post about our book boyfriends as I got to fangirl about Dorian and I also liked my post about the new tv shows I watched this fall 🙂

Wow, this is a very hard question. I think my favorite post was the 12 books to read before 2018. I failed terribly, but it was a lot of fun to write. I try and set goals, but as a moodreader it’s hard to stick to at times.

  8. What do you do for a living?
I’m still working to become a licensed sport psychologist and I’m slowly working on my private practice for that. I also teach horse riding lessons.

At the moment I work in a supermarket, while I look for a job in my own field (I have my masters degree, so I am planning on using it).

  9. Approximately how many books do you read in a week?
My reading as increased a bit and I’m at an average of 2 books a week.

I am normally able to read 3-4 books a week. Sometimes it’s a little less and sometimes a little more.

  10. Do you write reviews for every book you read? If not, what determines whether you write a review or not?
No I don’t write a review for every book I read. I do write reviews for all review books I read (obviously haha), I also write reviews for most of the comics I read. Whenever it’s my turn to write a review I just pick a book I finished recently. Horrible system haha and I want to try and write more reviews. That way we’ve got some articles as a back up and I could always add them to Goodreads so it’s never a ‘waste’.

I have written reviews for just about every book I have read since we started the blog. It does take me awhile though, haha. I have a list in my bulletjournal of the reviews that still need to be written. Just like Isabelle said, we both want to get better with this so we have some back up posts.

  11. What is your dream job?
I would absolutely love to work with youth athlete’s training fo the Olympics (as their sportspychologist). I love working with passionate people and would love to be able to help them become their best selfs.

I think my dream job is working with little kids, testing them and helping them be all they can be. Sometimes all kids need is the little extra boost for them to accomplish so much more.
